    Peter came from a poor family. His father died when he was six. His mother had no money to send him to school.     Denial, a high school student, who is going to take part in the college entrance examination, said he had to go to the capital city of Jiangsu Province every weekend. He has found a new professor who can help him prepare for the exam. His family is not rich, but his parents offer him 800 yuan for each lesson and 200 yuan to pay for the bus ticket. He said he would try his best to pass the exam next year. Therefore, he has to practice playing the piano 6 hours a day before every lesson. He said he even thought sleeping was a waste of time. How hard-working he is!

    However, not every student has a perfect plan like Denial. His younger sister doesn't get up until noon. She said holiday was boring because she couldn't play with her classmates. That's why she keeps sleeping for a long time to avoid being bored. What a special reason, isn't it?

    How can you have a wonderful holiday? Both relaxing and studying are very important for you. I suggest you make good use of your time every day and make a plan before the holiday begins. Two hours' study is not a long time, right? Don't spend too much time playing computer games or watching TV. It's bad for your eyes and neck.  If your parents are free at the weekend, going out for a picnic sounds great.

    Are you sometimes a little tired and sleepy in the early afternoon? Many people feel this way after lunch. They may think that eating lunch is the cause of the sleepiness. Or, in summer, they may think it is the heat. However, the real reason lies inside their bodies. At that time — about eight hours after you wake up — your body temperature goes down. This is what makes you slow down and feel sleepy.

Scientists have tested sleep habits in experiments where there was no night or day. The people in these experiments almost always followed a similar sleeping pattern. They slept for one long period and then for one short period about eight hours later.

    In many parts of the world, people take naps in the middle of the day. This is especially true in warmer climates, where the heat makes work difficult in the early afternoon. Researchers are now saying that naps are good for everyone in any climate. A daily nap gives one a more rested body and mind and therefore is good for health in general. In countries where naps are traditional, people often suffer(遭受) less from problems such as heart disease. Many working people, unfortunately, have no time to take naps. Though doctors may advise taking naps, employers do not allow it!

    If you do have the chance, however, here are a few tips about making the most of your nap. Remember that the best time to take a nap is about eight hours after you get up. A short sleep too late in the day may only make you feel more tired and sleepy afterward. This can also happen if you sleep for too long. If you do not have enough time, try a short nap — even ten minutes of sleep can be helpful.

In his lowest days when few people bought his records, Taiwan singer Steve Chou lived alone in Canada and did little. One day, he passed by a local CD store and heard a song that greatly attracted him.

＂My heart tells me that music is the thing I truly want to do, not for fame(名誉) or money,＂ Chou said. That's how we luckily have such a music genius, who has since then composed(作曲) lots of hits for the pop music charts (排行榜).

＂Sometimes we need to get close to nature to look deeply into our souls and see what we really want to follow,＂ he said.

Recently he has made public his latest work Lovers Genesis（《恋人创世纪》）. In this album, he explores human relationships in the Internet age. ＂Technology itself is a good thing, but it depends on how you're going to use it,＂ is Chou's advice to teenagers.

Chou often gets his music ideas from trips. He has traveled to many places around the world and believes that learning a country's language is the fastest way of experiencing the culture behind it.

Chou has worked hard on learning English to push forward his music career(事业). He has flown to the UK to attend month-long English training schools three times. There he lives with local families and practices daily conversations.

＂So I could easily read the English instructions on recording machines and communicate with the local music producers,＂ said Chou, ＂The music reviews of the US or British singers that I appreciate could help me learn and grow with them.＂

    Once there was a lovely vegetable field with a very big tree in it. Both the vegetables and the t made the garden look wonderful.

    No one knew that the vegetables in the field and the tree couldn't get on well with each other. The vegetables h the tree. They thought the tree did not leave them e light to survive. On the other hand, the tree hated the vegetables. He complained that the vegetables drank nearly all the water b it could get to him.

    The situation became worse and worse. One day, the vegetables got angry and decided to use up all the w in the ground so that the tree would dry up. The tree fought back by refusing to give the vegetables shade(树荫) from the hot sun. Soon they both began to dry up.

    Neither of them thought that the gardener would stop watering his vegetable f when he saw it becoming worse. When the gardener did that, the tree and the vegetables really felt how t they were. There seemed to be no ways to solve the problem, but one of the vegetables, a small pumpkin r what was going on, and decided to deal with it. Though there was little water and it was too hot, the little pumpkin did all he could to grow. F  he grew very big, the gardener noticed that and started watering the field again because he wanted to win the beautiful big pumpkin competition. At the same time, the tree and the vegetables grew better. They realized that it was better to help each other than to f.

     From then on, they worked together and lived in harmony with these around them.
