When we want to learn something, we usually go to school, ask a friend or parents. These are all 1 ways of learning. But it seems that the learning you really want 2 somewhere else instead. I had the 3 of seeing this on a weekend.
My daughter plays on a soccer team. They did very well this season and so they expected to 4 in the following competition, which normally was only for more skilled club teams. This led to some 5 experiences on Saturday as they played against better teams. Through the first two games, her 6 did not get anything. As a parent, I 7 seeing my daughter playing her best, 8 still failed.
It seemed that something turned out well with the 9 between Saturday and Sunday. When they appeared for their Sunday game, they were completely different. They tried to get good teamwork in their 10. They did 11 they could, and finally they got a goal. I was so 12 that I shouted with tears in my eyes.
Playing against the other team was a great 13 moment for all the girls on the team. 14 is the best teacher. The lessons they learned may not be 15 what they would have got in school, but are certainly more personal and meaningful, because they had to work them out on their own.

Swimming at the beach or in a backyard pool are well-known Australian summer activities. But while it is usually a fun time of year, there is a serious side to summer that you might not know about.
The terrible heat, which can go above 40℃ in some cities, is very dangerous. There are lots of trees and dry grass in the areas far away that can easily catch fire. Even throwing a burning cigarette out of a car window can start a dangerous fire. That is why summer is also known as "bushfire(丛林大火)season" in Australia.
In February there were more than 80 different bushfires burning at the same time in New South Wales, a southeastern state of Australia. The Guardian newspaper reported that 42 homes were burned to the ground because of these fires. These homes are not like Chinese ones. They are huge farms. Many Australian properties(房产) are larger than 1,000 sq km, while the biggest is more than 20,000 sq km, even larger than Beijing!
Every family prepares for bushfire season and protects their property(财产). But sometimes the fires are too big and people have to move to safety.
The hot weather also causes other problems. It was so hot in February that thousands of bats(蝙蝠) died from the heat. People can get sick if they stay outside for too long or they don't drink enough water. The heat can also cause power problems for homes and business.
The Australian summer is enjoyable. But it is worth remembering that the heat can cause lots of problems, too.
Not long ago, my daughter's shoes were scratched(划损)by someone's knife. I took the shoes to the shoemaker to get them repaired. He looked at them and said to me, "If you trust me, I will add more scratches on both of the shoes."
I was surprised and asked why. He explained," As if the openings were made on purpose for a special style". I didn't fully understand him, but I decided to leave the shoes there.
Two days later I dropped by from work to fetch the shoes. At the first sight I found there were indeed five or six more scratches on each shoe, but all the openings were patched(打补丁)by red soft leather(皮革). They looked special. I couldn't help making compliments(赞扬) on the shoemaker's skills.
Another time, there was a large opening on the back of my wife's sister's white coat. My wife took it over, checked carefully, and then said," Let me take it home and mend it."
Three days later, seeing the coat again, I was shocked: the big opening was taken place by a beautiful flower and it took on a wonderful look. I gave my praise," It's just as beautiful as a piece of art!"
Perfection is impossible to achieve in everything, and so is human's life, which will appear in the form of injury, disability or disease. Since you can't change a wound(伤口), you should not expect people's pity by exposingthe wound, which shows nothing meaningful. All you can do and have to do is to make up the wound by patches and try your best to grow the most beautiful flower on the wound, and that is the meaning of life.
Big data(数据) is lot of sets of information that are put together so they can be used by a computer program. The computer program looks for different kinds of answers or patterns in the data. Big data can have different kinds of information from many sources, such as information that comes from schools, social media sites(社交媒体网站), companies and governments. One set of data can have people's names and addresses. Another set can have what they like, where they go to school, and how much time they spend on the computer.
Big data can be used in many ways. The government uses it to understand how many people travel on buses or trains. This information is then used to make bus or train systems better. Some schools use big data to understand which children may need more help in class. The teacher can then give certain students more help or support so those students can succeed in school. Companies use big data, too. It helps them understand who buys their products. For example, one company uses weather data to see when people eat the most ice cream.
Big data can be used for good reasons. Some hospitals use big data to predict if a baby who is born too early will get sick. The hospital can then take extra steps to take care of that baby so he, she does not get sick. Big data can also be used for bad reasons. It can be used to predict which kinds of people are likely to break the law or hurt others, even if they have not done anything wrong.
How can big data be used for good and bad things? It is because the computer programs used to look at big data and understand it are written by people. People think a certain way. Because they think a certain way, they build a model of those ideas. These ideas are then used to look at the data. Sometimes, these ideas are helpful for people or businesses. Other times, bad ideas can cause problems for certain groups of people.
