A man was sick and tired of going to work every day and his wife stayed home. He thought it was unfair so he wanted her to see1he went through. The next morning, the man was 4to wake up as a woman. He got out of bed, cooked breakfast for his family, woke up his kids, set out their school clothes, fed them breakfast. After that, he prepared the lunches for the kids and5the lunches. He then drove them to school, came home and took all the6that needed dry cleaning to the cleaners and stopped at the bank to take out some money, went to the supermarket and7returned home.
But he 8couldn't rest after getting home. He cleaned the cat's litter box and bathed the dog. By then it was already 1 p.m. He hurried to finish the9. When he finished all the work, he ran to school to10the kids. He brought them home, helped them with their homework, and then headed into the11.

After dinner, he cleaned the kitchen, did the dishes, folded the clothes, bathed the kids, and put them to bed. By 9 p.m. he was already15tired to do anything, so he couldn't wait to go to bed himself.
The next morning,16he woke up, he knelt (跪下) by the bed and prayed, "I was so17to envy (嫉妒) my wife's being able to stay home all day. Oh please, let our bodies trade back." Since then, he loved his wife much more after spending a day in her18.
So everyone, when you envy others and feel unlucky about19, you can stand in others' shoes to see if it is easy for you.20, you may be happier about your own life.
Dear Editor,
I was shocked to read your article about the ski resort (滑雪胜地) in Bolivia, South America. Temperature have risen so much in the past 100 years that soon, there may be no snow left at this resort.
In Ningbo, we may think that problems such as this have nothing to do with us. Or, perhaps, we are so busy working and enjoying ourselves that we do not have time to think about the world around us.
Yet the problem is real: the earth has warmed up by more than 0.5"C over the past few years. Sea levels have risen, and glaciers (冰川) have melted (融化). In the future, droughts (干旱) could cause hunger, and floods (洪水) could completely make low-lying countries disappear.
Scientists make sure that humans are responsible for much of the temperature rise. Too many cars give off bad air, people cut down and burn trees to turn forests into cities, and heavy industry burns coal for power. We have turned a blind eye for too long. We must act now.
We should all ask ourselves, "What can we do to help protect the environment? What have we done to help? What can we start doing now?"
Let's cut down the number of the things we buy. Let's recycle. Let's reuse the useful things before we throw them away. Let's take action now before it is too late.
Yours faithully,
Franky
Long ago, there were two brothers who worked together. The elder brother, John, was wise but the younger one, Jack, was stupid. John always took care of his younger brother and kept him out of trouble. They owned a small hotel where passing travellers would often stop to rest and have some food.
One day, John went down to a nearby river to fish, leaving Jack look after the small hotel. Soon, a group of travellers appeared. Instead of being helpful, stupid Jack made them angry. The bad travellers tied him up and left the small hotel, taking him along with them. Poor Jack cried and waited for his brother.
John was coming home with his catch when he saw what had happened far away. Quickly, clever John thought of a plan to save his brother. He climbed up a tree and tied a number of fish to its branches (树枝). Then he moved towards the travellers and pleaded (乞求) with them to free his brother.
"Your brother has said something bad about us. You must pay a price for his mistake." Said the leader of the travellers.
"Sir, if you set my brother free, I will take you to a fish tree," John replied.
The travellers were very surprised to hear of such a tree, but they allowed themselves to be led to the strange tree. The travellers freed Jack and climbed up the tree to catch the fish.
After a few days, the travellers returned to catch more fish. It was then that they realized they had been fooled. The two brothers, of course, had by then, sold off their small hotel and moved to another place.
Did you have any interesting dreams last night?
Our dreams come from a part of the brain that has our thoughts and memories. A person can have up to six dreams a night, and each dream usually lasts from 10 to 40 minutes. Everyone dreams, but not everyone remembers their dreams. Most people dream in color, usually with sound. And we usually dream about ourselves and the people we know.
Why Do We Dream?
Alan Siegel is a scientist who studies dreams. "Dreams help us get in touch with our deeper feelings," he says. "They can tell us a lot about ourselves, and can help us understand our problems." Another scientist, Robert Stickgold, thinks dreams come from our memories. He believes we dream to remember, because memories are useful to the brain. Stickgold says the purpose of dreaming through these memories is to help us learn from the past.
Here are a few kinds of dreams and what people think they mean.
Dream 1: You Meet Someone While in Your Pajamas (睡衣)
Sometimes people dream that they meet someone they know while wearing their underwear (or nothing at al). This dream may be the result of an embarrassing event in your life. Some people think we dream about embarrassing situations if our brains are trying to deal with an event in our own lives.
Dream 2: You're Flying.
If you dream about flying, you are probably quite happy. This is a good period in your life.
You may feel that other people see you as a leader.
Dream 3: You Didn't Study for a Test
This probably means you are worried about an important event coming in your life. If you're not prepared for the event, your dream may be telling you, "It's time to get to work!"
Dream 4: Someone's Running after You
If you dream someone is running after you, it may tell you should face the problems in your life instead of giving it up.
Sarah had five dogs that she had to walk each day. She was paid by her neighbors to walk their dogs because most of them did not get home from work until very late. Sarah would go to their homes, one at a time, and then she would walk each dog for a short time before moving on to the next dog.
Sarah loved her job. In fact, she would need money she could get with the plans she had for I the future. When she graduated high school, she wanted to go to college and become an animal doctor. Although it would take a lot of hard work, she could not imagine a life without animals. She wanted to help any animal that was hurt or in need. When she was lite, she imagined she was the doctor and was always trying to put bandages on the arms and legs of her toys.
This afternoon, though, Sarah just couldn't enjoy her work. All of her friends were going to Claire's birthday. But she was not available.
As Sarah arrived at the first house, inspiration struck! She would simply go to each house and get each dog and walk all the dogs at one time. That way, she could still complete her job, get paid, and still have time to go and meet her friends.
After thirty minutes, Sarah knew the fantastic idea she'd had was not so fantastic at all. She was sitting on the side of the road. Two of the dogs would not stop barking (吠叫) at each other, and she failed to keep all the dogs walking and not running.
Sarah had learned an important lesson. There were no shortcuts (捷径) in doing a good job. She would just have to go and meet her friends on another day.
In the fight against the new coronavirus (新型冠状病毒), Chinese people have come up with many creative ways to solve different problems. They have shown their wisdom (智慧) during hard times.
Amazing China speed
In cities like Wuhan that have large numbers of infected (被感染的) people, more hospital beds are needed. The quickest way to solve this is to build makeshift (临时的) hospitals.
On Jan 23 and 25, the government decided to build Huoshenshan Hospital and Leishenshan Hospital in Wuhan. More than 4,000 workers worked day and night, and nearly 1,000 large machines and transportation helped with the project.
Within less than 15 days, the two hospitals were set up. They provide about 2,600 beds in total. The speed shocked many people around the world.
All for masks (口罩)
During that period, medical things such as masks are in great need. To increase production (生产), over 3,000 Chinese factories have transformed their production lines to make medical things. For example, a factory that used to make clothes spent 55 hours transforming their production lines and is now able to make 1,200 protective medical suits every day. Several car factories in China have also turned their production lines into mask-making lines.
Sharing workers
The idea of "sharing workers" became popular during the period. As most people were staying at home, many workers in restaurants, cinemas and shopping malls had no work and were not getting paid. However, online everyday and medical things continued to grow, making the workers from Dingdong, Freshhema and other online shops too busy.
As of Feb 10, over 1,800 workers had started their new short-term (短期的) jobs as delivery (送货) workers with Dingdong and Freshhema, Xinhua reported.
Question⑴:
My first job was for a newspaper. After a few years there, I met a National Geographic (国家地理) photographer. He liked my photos and said I should send some to the magazine. So I did. Then luckily, I got the job.
Question⑵:
To get into National Geographic, you have to give them something they don't have. It's not enough just to be a great photographer. You also have to, for example, be a scientist, or be able to dive (潜水) under sea ice, or spend several days in a tree.
Question⑶:
It's now more difficult to work for magazines. Technology now makes it easy to take good pictures. Also, there is full of photos online from all around the world that are free, or cost very little. So it is a big challenge for us to take better pictures.
Question⑷:
Advice? Love your job and life. Look at others' photos carefully and learn from them. But be a photographer for the right reasons. If you do it for the money, you won't really be happy. Do you want to make people see things in a different way? If so, you'll enjoy the work much more.
A. I want to be a photographer. Do you have any advice for me? B. What kind of photographers is the National Geographic magazine looking for? C. Is it difficult to get a job as a photographer today? D. How did you become a National Geographic photographer? |

My wife lost her wallet after going shopping just before New Year's Eve. She had about $150 and some credit cards (信用卡) in the wallet.
She didn't realize it was missing until about four or five hours later. She she even couldn't remember where she lost the wallet. My wife stayed up all night and worried about her wallet. What others used her credit cards? And losing $150 wasn't great, either.
The next day, she went back to the shops that she had visited the day before and asked about her wallet. A manager at one store came over and said, " handed this in last night. We thought you might come back to look for it, so we kept it for you."
My wife looked inside her wallet. Everything was still there, including her money. She was very so she bought the store's workers a big basket of cookies. However, I think she might want to thank the who turned in her wallet even more.
