In the USA, you can only get a full-time job if you are 16 years old or older. But there are things that teenagers can do to earn(赚) some spending money. Here're a few ideas.

Parents with young children sometimes want to go out for dinner or to the movies, but they don't want to leave their children alone. So, they ask a teenager to stay in the house, be a baby-sitter and look after their children while they're out. If the children go to bed early, you can do some of your homework!

Some people have a dog, but they don't have time to take it for a walk. Dogs need a lot of exercise! So some teenagers work as dog walkers. It's a good idea - you earn money and you're outside in the fresh air. You get some exercise, too!

Teenagers can work at home on their computers. Some companies pay teenagers to take online surveys. They want to know what teenagers are interested in. It's a fun and easy way to make money. You can also design web pages for friends or others. Do you have any old toys, books or CDs you don't use? Sell them online and make some money!

Sometimes, some families pay teenagers to mow their lawns(草坪). It's a great job because you get fresh air and exercise. Mow a lawn carefully and people will want you to do it again. Then you have regular customers, because grass always grows.

You can choose one of them to earn some money. Then you can spend it or save it! But don't forget it's important to always tell your parents where you're going. Be safe when you work.

    1. (1) How many ideas of part-time jobs for teenagers are suggested in this passage?
      A . One. B . Two. C . Three. D . Four.
    2. (2) Which two part-time jobs can help teenagers get both fresh air and exercise?
A . Baby-sitting and taking online surveys. B . Walking dogs and mowing lawns. C . Designing web pages and mowing lawns, D . Baby-siting and designing web pages.
    3. (3) What can we learn from this passage?
A . Only boys can work as dog walkers. B . Mowing a lawn will help grass grow slowly. C . Being a baby-sitter for kids always means much hard work, D . Teenagers in the USA aren't allowed to work full-time until age 16.
    4. (4) This passage is most probably written for _______________.
A . parents who want to get full-time jobs B . customers who want to buy part-time services C . teenagers who want to earn some pocket money D . companies that want to know about teenagers' interests

When he was 9 years old, Felix Finkbeiner was asked to give a speech in class on climate(气候) change. The young German spoke about depredation(砍伐森林) and its influences on the planet.         Did the wind ever blow your hat away? Did you ever drop your notebook on a windy day? How many important pages did you lose? Wind is moving air. It can pick up light materials and carry them far away.

Wind is a force of erosion(仗蚀). It can carry away small

martials such as dust particles(灰尘微粒) and sand particles from the earth's surface. However, wind itself does not cause much erosion. Most "wind" erosion is done by particles which are cried by wind. Wind is an important natural force of erosion in dry places.

Wind can easily pick up sand particles. When they are blown against rocks, the sand particles hit the rocks in the wind. This happens over and over again. Little by lite, the rocks wear down.

The particles which are carried by wind not only cause erosion, they also build up. What is carried away by the wind in one place will drop somewhere else.

When wind slows down, it drops the materials that it is carrying. When sand is dropped, it builds up and becomes dunes(沙丘). Sand dunes are common in deserts and on beaches. Some dunes can be harmful. They can bury(埋) farms and homes, even whole towns.

Wind carries dust particles higher and farther than it carries sand. Thick deposits of wind-blown dust may also build up. The wind-blown dust is called loess(黄土). Loess deposits are found in Washington State and Oregon State.

Sometimes people plant grasses and trees to try to stop wind erosion. How does this help? The roots of plants help to hold down soil and other particles found on the ground.

    1. (1) The purpose of writing the first paragraph is to _______________.
      A . introduce the topic B . make a comparison C . give background information D . warn people of the situation
    2. (2) What does the underlined "it" in Paragraph 5 refer to?
      A . Sand. B . Wind. C . Erosion. D . Dust.
    3. (3) Which of the following is true according to the passage?
A . Wind itself can cause a lot of erosion to rocks. B . Sand particles and dust particles cannot build up. C . Planting grasses and tees can help stop wind erosion. D . Wind can carry sand particles farther than dust particles.
    4. (4) This passage can probably be read in the ________________ part of a magazine.
      A . Travel B . Culture C . Geography D . Business

“Nothing will ever be the same again," Ally said to herself.

Ally's father died last summer. It wasn't fair, Ally thought. Dad was young and had never been sick. Why had his heart suddenly stopped? Ally sank slowly into her father's favorite chair and looked at his picture on the bookcase. Ally smiled. "I miss you, Dad," she said softly.

She felt a hand smoothing her hair and looked up. "" Why don't you come outside with me, Ally?" her mother asked. "The birds are nesting(筑巢) in the woods. By this time last year you'd already taken dozens of pictures."

But her mother must know bird watching wouldn't be the same this year. How could it be? Ally wondered. Ever since she could remember she and Dad had been a team, searching the woods for the special wood warbler. "I'll be out in a while, I promise," she answered,
