Like two different worlds
I come from London in England- a very big city! Over 81people live there, and it's always busy with tourists. So moving to a little town2only 15 ,000 people was a big change for me! I am living in a little town in Germany now.
In the countryside, the towns are3so everyone knows each other. At home in London, I don't even know my neighbours! Another nice thing about the countryside is that it's very green and there's lots of fresh air. I like nature, and it's nice to see4the seasons change the trees. My favourite thing about living in the countryside is that at night I can see thousands of5. At home I can hardly see any! That's because there's6light in the city, but here everything is dark and the stars twinkle in the sky.
One thing I do like about living in a city is that it's7to travel. We have the subways, buses and trains, and we even have buses that run all night. Here, the last train is before 9 pm, and there's only one in an hour! Another good thing about cities is that there are lots of8 , so you can usually find what you need. Here there aren't many shops,9I have to go to the nearest city!
I always thought I was a city girl, but now I like the countryside too. They are like two different worlds, but10are like home !
Tibet(西藏) is among the most popular places for Chinese tourists. The number of travellers of Tibet has grown by 10% every year for a few years. Since July 1, 2006, when the first train ran 1,956 kilometres from Xining to Lhasa, more and more people have been to Tibet.
The train stops at several famous places along the way, such as Qinghai Lake, Kunlun Mountain, and the Potala Palace. Passengers can also enjoy many activities during the journey, like Tibetan dancing and karaoke.
On the train, passengers can have tea, eggs and noodles for breakfast, and fried chicken and green vegetables for lunch and dinner. Unlike most other Chinese trains which have openhole toilets, this one has special toilets which can collect the waste. There is also a special rubbish system(系统) in the train that keeps the environment clean. All the windows on the train can protect people from the bright sunlight. TV and electrical sockets(插座) for computers and mobile phones can be found on the train.
Because there isn't much oxygen there, trains will have oxygen masks(氧气罩) for those who need them. It makes passengers feel more comfortable when they have enough oxygen on the famous “roof of the world”. There are also doctors on the train to make sure that all of the travellers are safe.
Amsterdam is the most bicycle-friendly capital in the world. Biking is a fun and an easy way of getting around Amsterdam. Students go to school by bicycle. People ride their bicycles to work. Travellers ride bicycles freely around the city. Even the police work by bicycle. You can see these every day in Amsterdam. There are many roads and traffic signs for bicycles. There are also many places for bicycle parking.
If you travel in Amsterdam, you don't need to take a bus or a taxi, just ride a bicycle. You can ride the bicycle along the roads and the streets to enjoy the scenery. The city has a lot of bicycle shops to choose from. If you do not want to buy a bicycle, you can go to bicycle rentals(租赁). They are in almost every part of the city. Going for a ride is enjoyable. It's a good idea to find an experienced guide. Because he would take you to some of the city's most beautiful places. Riding bicycles in Amsterdam is great fun and relaxing;just remember to follow the traffic rules(规则) .
When you are learning English, you find it not clever to put an English sentence, word for word, into your own language. Take the sentence "How do you do?" for example. If you look up each word in the dictionary, one at a time, what is your translation? It must be a wrong sentence in your own language.
Languages don't just have different sounds. They are different in many ways. It's important to master the rules for the word order in the study of English too. If the speaker puts words in a wrong order, the listener can't understand the speaker's sentence easily. Sometimes when the order of words in an English sentence is changed, the meaning of the sentence changes. But sometimes when the order is changed, the meaning of the sentence doesn't change. Let's see the difference between the two pairs of sentences.
"She only likes apples." "Only she likes apples." and "I have seen the film already." "I have already seen the film."
When you are learning English, you must do your best to get the spirit of the language and use it as the English speakers do.
