Do you want to be a TV news reporter? People often ask me1 I love my job. Well, it's very exciting. I'm the2 to know about important news stories. I travel around the world and I talk to people. I3 what is happening in different places. I talk to some important and famous people. I've talked to people in the government4 famous sportsmen and sportswomen and film stars. I ask people to tell me about their lives. I want to know how they feel.
A lot of people want to5 in TV news, so you have to be energetic (精力充沛的) and creative. You have to show that you can do it. You must learn how to use a video camera, to write reports, and to speak to the camera. What's the6 way to learn? Your school or college TV station is a good place to start, but you have to get a job!
Most people start7 an unpaid (无报酬的) job, so they can learn. The best place to learn is at a8 station. There aren't many people, and as a result, you get better9. I had an unpaid job at a small station, and one night, when everyone else was ill. I read the news on air. I did very10, and I got my first paid job.
Henry works in a factory. He comes from a poor family and is in school for only four years. He has to do the hard work, but he can't make much money. He likes to watch football matches very much and spends much time on them.
One afternoon there was a big football match on the playground. He borrowed some money from his friend and hurried there. There were a lot of people there. And all the tickets were sold out (售完) . He was sorry for it. He saw a pole (杆子) outside the playground and climbed it quickly. A policeman came and said. "It is dangerous to stay on it! Come down!"
"Wait a minute please!" Henry said and just at that moment the policeman heard cheers on the playground and asked in a hurry. "Which team has kicked a goal (进球) ?" "Ours !" Wonderful! You can stay there, But take care!" The policeman said happily and left. When the match would be soon over, he came back again and asked, "Who has won?" "Theirs, 3:2." "Come down." the policeman said angrily. "Such a match is not worth (值得) watching !"
Henry had to come down. But soon they heard cheers again. The policeman said in a hurry," Climb up quickly and see who has kicked a goal."
When I was about twelve years old, a girl in my class liked to point out my disadvantages.
My disadvantages: I was very thin; I wasn't good at math; I talked too much; I was too proud and so on. At last. I became very angry. I ran to my father with tears in my eyes.
He listened to me quietly, and asked. "Are those things true or not? Jane, didn't you ever think about what you're really like?" Then he added, "Well, you have that girl's opinions. Make a list of everything she said and mark(做标记)the true points."
I did as he told me. To my great surprise, I found out that about half the things were true. Some of them I couldn't change, like being very thin, but many I could—and suddenly I wanted to change. For the first time I got a clear picture of myself.
I brought the list back to Daddy, and he said, "Now you know better about yourself. But you have to learn to listen, not just close your ears angrily and feel hurt. When something said about you is true, you'll find it will be of great help to you. Don't shut your ears. Listen to the truth and do what you know is the right thing to do."
Daddy's advice has returned to me at many important moments. In my life. I've never had a better piece of advice.
Can dogs and cats get along well in the same home? People are thinking about getting a dog for their cat as a friend, but they are worried about that the dog and the cat will fight. A recent research has found that if the cat is taken back home before the dog, and if they are introduced when they are still young (less than 6 months for cats, a year for dogs), it is possible that the two pets will get along swimmingly. In two-thirds of the homes cats and dogs have a good relationship (关系) .
However, there was something unfriendly between the cat and dog in 25% of the homes, while aggression (侵略,好斗) and fighting were found in 10% of the homes. One reason for this is probably that some of their body languages are just different. For example, when a cat turns its head away, it means aggression. while a dog doing the same means submission (顺从).
In homes with cats and dogs living in peace, researchers found a surprising behavior (行为) . They are learning how to talk each other's language. It is a surprise that cats can learn how to talk "Dog", and dogs can learn how to talk "Cat".
The interesting thing is that both cats and dogs seem to become smarter. They can learn to read each other's body languages, suggesting that the two may have more in common (共同的) than was expected (预料) . If they understand each other's body language very well, cats and dogs can play together, and enjoy sleeping together on the sofa.
The importance of this research on cats and dogs may go beyond (超过) pets—to people who don't get along well, including neighbours, workmates at work, and even countries. If cats and dogs can learn to get along, surely people have a good chance.

Chris is not a traditional explorer (探险者) —he usually works in an office for a large organization (机构) . But his job can sometimes be just as exciting and dangerous as being an explorer.
Chris works for MSF, an organization also known as Doctors Without Borders (无国界医生) . MSF sends trained doctors all over the world to help people after a war or a disaster (灾难) . Chris is a doctor from France who has travelled to many places to help the people.
At the moment, there are over 27,000 trained medical members taking part in MSF projects and tasks. The organization received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999. All kinds of doctors can volunteer for MSF. They need to be prepared to go almost anywhere in the world. When MSF accepts a doctor for a task, he or she has to go for at least six months. When doctors have completed a few tasks, they might be sent on another task, such as an earthquake.
But why would a doctor leave a comfortable life and a good salary to join MSF? According to Chris, the experience you gain is a great help in your career. Besides, just like the explorers of the past, you need to keep an open mind and learn to get on well with the people you meet. Most importantly, at the end of each task, you have made a real difference to people's lives.
Earth Hour started in Sydney on March 31st, 2007. Till now, it has ltwelve years. It advises people to turn off the lights for an hour on the last Saturday night of March in order to save eand improve climate (气候) . A year later, Earth Hour ba world's activity and was supported (支持) by millions of people from thirty-five countries. On March 28, 2010, over 2100 cities in another eight countries joined in it. Earth Hour came to China on that day.
In 2012 in China, there were many cities taking part in this activity, esome large cities, such as Beijing and Shanghai. Many people in these cities consciously (有意识的) turned off lights in the hour. And wlights, they could also enjoy themselves. In colleges some students held some activities to make all the students ltheir dormitories (宿舍).
It was 20: 30, Beijing time. Some people in Beijing were having a nice talk with their friends. In Shanghai some people were taking a walk with their families ofriends. And in Ningbo some young people were holding a party in a park, sand dancing. The people from the three cities felt very r.
We may have different ways to spend Earth Hour, for example, we can go to school on foot or by bike, plant more trees and so on, but the pis the same, that is focusing on (聚焦) climate change and protecting the environment.
