Every April, there is a special day when people remember and honor their ancestors (祖先). It is called Tomb (坟墓)-Sweeping Day, also known as Qingming Festival. This year, the day 1 on April 4th.
Tomb-Sweeping Day is a(n)2 Chinese festival. It began over 2,000 years ago. 1）Opening
Mr. To opened the meeting and welcomed Ms. Sin as a new committee member.
2）The Green Building Project
In order to make Wing Lung School more environmentally friendly and to make students take notice of environmental problems, such as rising temperature of the Earth, it has been decided that work on The Green Building Project would begin in June.
①Solar panels (太阳能电池板)
Plans to install solar panels on the rooftop of the main building have been decided.
②Roof garden
Ms. Man pointed out that a roof garden could make the temperature in the main building become lower. However, it has been decided that the school could not afford to build a roof garden at present.
③Water tank (水箱)
Plans for the installation (安装) of a water tank on the rooftop to collect water for toilets were passed.
④Timers on light switches
It has been decided that timers would be installed on light switches in all classrooms so that lights would switch off automatically(自动地) at the end of the day.
3）A speech
It was agreed that a speech would be given to tell students information about the project at 4 p.m. on March 28th in the school hall.

Dear Sir,
I am writing to express my views on the article No End to World Hunger in the City Times on April 28th.
To begin with, I do not agree with the writer's claim(断言) that the world's population will grow to ten billion by 2050. Studies have shown that families in wealthy countries have fewer children. The world's population is unlikely to grow so much because countries around the world are becoming richer.
Secondly, it is said that we could have too little food in the future, I do not think so. With new farming technology, we might be able to grow other kinds crops. We already have new kinds of rice and cereals (谷物) that can grow more quickly and feed more people. At the same time, some scientists say that we have more than enough food in the world — it is just not shared evenly(平均地). I think that this may be true and, if it is, hunger is a problem that can be solved.
Finally, I do not think it is helpful to claim that there will be “no end to hunger”. We might not be able to solve the problem of the world hunger quickly, but there are many things that we can do. Cutting down on food waste and raising money to feed the hungry is easy enough to do.
Generally speaking, I strongly believe there can be an end to world hunger. However, we must be ready to take actions now.

A forest fire that burned 55 square kilometers was finally brought under control on Wednesday morning. The fire started on Sunday in Black Bear State Park and quickly spread to nearby areas.
On Monday, police evacuated (疏散) the small town of Lawson and asked the people to leave their homes. The fire destroyed 20 homes in the area and caused heavy damage (损坏) to 40 others.
Nobody was hurt. Officials said the damage to homes and cars was between $l million and $2 million. The fire spread quickly in the hot, dry weather. Firefighting was difficult because of strong winds. Firemen from 55 fire departments in the state joined the National Fire Service to put out the fire. Some kept fighting for 24 hours. Fire engines (消防车) and helicopters (直升机) dropped water onto the fire. In order to control the fire, firemen cleared a way around the fire.
Police closed King Road to traffic on Tuesday because of heavy smoke. Thousands of tourists had to drive an hour north to Queen Road to pass the fire area. Local police think open fires left by tourists might be the cause of the accident and ask tourists to follow the rules in case such accidents ever happen again.

Emperor penguins live in the Antarctic, one of the most extreme (极端的) environments in the world. The there is so cold that the temperatures can fall to -40℃. They are the largest and heaviest kind of penguins in the world. They can hold their breath for up to 22 and can go under the water as deep as 565m. They can swim almost as as dolphins (海豚) 24 km per hour. They have to be able to swim fast, or they'll be by killer whales for food.
The female (雌性的) penguin one egg each winter. She passes it to the male (雄性的) penguin. Then she goes back to the sea for two months to find food. The male stays with the egg and keeps it warm. the egg gets too cold, the baby penguin inside will So the male keeps egg off the ice and covers it with his stomach feathers (羽毛).
For the two months that the females are away, the males stay together to stay warm and protect each other strong winds and snowstorms. During this time, they eat because they can't leave their eggs until the females return.
