There was once a cat. She was hungry, so she went looking for food. She saw a tree. When she got to the top, she found a nest(巢).A bird just finished building it, so it was empty(空的).She said, "That's OK. I'll wait. Summer just started."
A week later, the cat went back to the nest. When she looked inside, she saw five eggs. The cat was patient. She said, "I'll wait. Eggs are good, but young birds are better."
After another week, she climbed up to the nest. This time, she saw five sleeping baby birds. However, she looked again and saw they were very thin. She thought, "I'll wait a few days to let them grow fat."
As the cat waited, she watched the father bird. He brought lots of worms(蠕虫) to the nest. The cat thought, "The young birds are going to be fat. Soon, they'll be the right size to eat." In the end, she didn't wait another minute and went straight to the nest. To the cat's surprise, it was empty. She said, "Those birds are the worst! They didn't thank me before they left! Meow!"
Pancake Day, or Shrove Tuesday, is a special day in many countries around the world.
People celebrate it in English- speaking countries like the UK, Ireland, Australia and Cana-da. In France and the US, people call it Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday.
Pancake Day is always in February or March. On that special Tuesday, many people eat pancakes: thin cakes made in a round pan. In the UK, people have pancake races to celebrate Pancake Day. In the race, people run with a pancake in a pan. When they run, they need to throw(扔) the pancake in the air many times. The most famous pancake race is in a town called Olney, in the middle of England. The pancake race there has a history of 575 years.
Pancakes aren't difficult to make. To make a pancake, we need milk, eggs and so on.

It's December and I'm having a good time visiting Japan with my friends. Now we're
in a small roasted(烤) sweet potato shop. There are many roasted sweet potato shops in Japan. But this one isn't like the others. A dog is selling the food in it.
The dog's name is Ken-kun. He works from 11:00 a. m. to 3:00 p. m. on weekends.
We're lucky that Ken-kun is still at work when we're here. He's happy to see us. He pops out(探出) his head to say" Hello" to us and then watches us take the sweet potatoes and pay for them.
From my friends, l know some more: the money from the sale of roasted sweet potatoes goes to help animals in danger; after work Ken-kun likes to play with children and make them happy. I must say, Ken-kun and the shop make me feel warmer.
Next time you go to Japan, you can go to Ken-kun's shop and buy a sweet potato.
Do you like sports? If you're looking for a way to exercise, walking is a good one. Walking is easy. There are no rules. You just walk—left, right, left, right. It's really easy.
Walking is cheap. You don't need to spend lots of money on clothes and equipment(器材).All you need is a pair of comfortable shoes.
Walking is fun. Go with a friend. Walk and talk. Do something you enjoy. You can listen to something, think about life and relax when walking.
Walking is good for your health. You feel energetic(精力充沛的) after walking. And now science shows that walking outdoors is the best exercise.
Walking works in all kinds of weather. When it's raining, take an umbrella. When it's sunny, use sunglasses. If it's hot, take some water with you. When it's cold, you always feel warm. And walking in the snow is very enjoyable!
Now do you want to walk? Just do it!
Once there was a rich trader. He had a lovely son. But he worried about his son, because the boy grew up only with happiness." How will he know what to do if there's a problem?" the trader thought.
One day, the trader gave his son an old cart(手推车) and asked him to go into the forest to collect wood(收集木头).Before his son left, the trader said to him, "If the cart doesn't work, don't worry. Necessity(必然性)will teach you what to do."
The boy collected much wood and went home. But on the way home, the cart broke. Then he started shouting,"Mr. Necessity! Where are you?" But no one came. At last, he had to fix(修理)the cart himself.
When the boy arrived home, he said to his father, "You said 'Necessity' would teach me to fix the cart, but he didn't appear. So I had to fix it all by myself."
The trader said happily, "Necessity is really the best teacher."
