A Chinese song could be heard in a classroom in Sana, the capital of Yemen(也门), where around 20 Chinese-learning schoolchildren were singing
"I love to learn the Chinese language because it is very nice, important and I want to travel to China to complete my studies there," Karim al-Areqi, a student of the private Languages Model School in Sanaa, told Xinhua.
Teacher Mohammed al-Ansi, who learnt the language in China and received a university degree, stressed(强调)the importance of learning the Chinese language. "It is the language of the future and it is necessary for all people to get advantages from the great development in China," he said.
Like many other private elementary and secondary schools in Yemen, the Chinese language is a basic part of the Languages Model School's courses, where the students study Chinese as actively as math and science subjects. "In teaching the Chinese language, I succeeded in educating students in a simple way that fits everyone," al-Ansi said proudly, stressing that teaching Chinese has changed his life without doubt.
Al-Ansi expects that Yemen and China will work together to set up centers and schools for teaching the Chinese language in Yemen so that many young Yemenis can learn. "I hope that a branch of the Confucius (孔子学院),could be built in Yemen to teach the language and spread the Chinese culture to many years who are interested in learning the Chinese culture and language," he said. see that learning a foreign language may open a way of hope to a new life, such as getting ,more money and paving(铺平)the way to a bright future in the country that has experienced war for almost five years,

A 3-year-old boy who was lost in the woods for two days is now safe at home with his family. But Casey Hathaway told his rescuers(救援者) that he was not alone in the rainy, freezing cold woods. He said he was with a friend—a bear.
The child went missing on 22 January while playing with friends near his grandmother's house in North Carolina. When the other children returned but Casey did not, the family searched the area for almost an hour before calling the police.
Police formed a search team to look for the young boy in the nearby woods. But two days went by and—no Casey.
Then on 24 January, someone called the police saying he heard a child crying in the woods. Police followed up on the information and found Casey at about 9:30 that night. He was in good health.
Casey told the rescuers he had hung out with a black bear for two days, a bear he called his "friend".
The police officer Chip Hughes spoke with reporters from several news agencies. He said Casey did not say how he could survive in the woods for two days in the cold, rainy weather. "However, " the police officer said, "he did say he had a friend in the woods that was a bear with him. "
Hundreds of people helped in the search and rescue efforts, including some 600 volunteers, police and members of the army. Doctors at the medical centre gave Casey some examination. He was then sent to his family on 25 January.
His mother talked with reporters and thanked everyone who joined the search for her son. "We just want to tell everyone that we're very thankful that you took the time out to search for Casey, " said his mother. "He is up and talking. He's already asked to watch cartoons. "

Unlike their parents and grandparents, most middle school students in China nowadays don't have brothers or sisters. This is because of our country's family planning policy (计划生育政策), which started in the 1970s.
This is one kind of family planning, but there are many others in different countries. According to a new report, family planning is a human right. It helps women better plan their education and work. It also helps the economy (经济) of developing countries.
The report was released (发布) by the United Nations Population Fund on Nov. 14. It mainly talked about family planning, human rights and development.
The report said that about 867 million women in developing countries now have ways to control (控制) when and if they are to give birth, but there are still 222 million women unable to exercise their right to family planning.
"Women and their children and families live healthier, longer lives because of family planning," said Dr Margaret Greene, the lead author of the report.
Margaret Hilda Thatcher was Britain's first female prime minister and served three terms in office. She is one of the greatest political figures of 20th century Britain.
Margaret Hilda Roberts was born on October 13, 1925 in Grantham, England She studied chemistry at Oxford University and was made chairwoman of the Oxford University Conservative Association(保守党协会). In 1951, she married a wealthy businessman, Denis Thatcher, with whom she had two children.
She often stated that she was brought up very strictly, "I owe everything in my life to two things: a good home, and a good education. My home was ordinary, but good in the sense that my parents were passionately interested in the future of my sister and myself. At the same time, they gave us a good education—not only in school, but at home as well. "
In 1970, Thatcher was appointed secretary for Education and Science. Five years later, she challenged Heath for the leadership of the Party and, to the surprise of many, won. In the 1979 general election, the Conservatives came to power and Thatcher became Prime Minister.
In foreign affairs, Thatcher had a close political and personal relationship with US president Ronald Reagan. She was nicknamed the "Iron Lady" by the Soviets. She visited China four times and made a great contribution to Hong Kong's returning to China.
Thatcher resigned as Prime Minister and leader of the Conservative Party in 1990. She remained in the House of Commons until 1992. In the same year, Thatcher was made a Baroness(贵族) by the queen and became a member of the House of Lords.
Reading Thatcher's whole life, it seems that she always knew what she wanted, and then she would put all her efforts into it to live her dream. She had a quick mind and an even quicker tongue. Her sense of self confidence and ambition(雄心) ruled her life from the time she was a small child, through her Oxford years and during her early years in politics.
A. Set aside time to read together. B. Ask your children about their favourite books. C. Reading together is a perfect way to relax before bedtime. D. This special place may push your children to start to love reading. E. Here are some useful ways to help make your children love reading! F. Let them have fun around there and they can choose whatever excites them. G. Let your children read alone. |
If your children are learning to read, it's wonderful! Whatever they're reading, they're probably super-excited readers! But the fact is, reading is a skill.
Create a comfortable reading environment.
Choose a special place with right furnishings(家具陈设), blankets and pillows for your children and put a bookcase of your children's books. If your children feel they have got their own special place for reading, they will probably spend time in their little space with all their new favourite books.
If you want your children to learn to love reading, set aside a few minutes every day to read together, no matter how busy you are. Plan to go to bed a few minutes earlier each night, so your children have the time to choose a book to read. Besides, reading aloud to your children can make them more willing to read on their own.
Make the library and bookstore a special treat.
Whether your kids are big readers or not, they are only children. They may be excited about new clothes and toys, but not books! Try to use that excitement to help your children love to read. Making a special treat of spending some time at the library or bookstore can be a perfect way to get your children excited about reading.
