I shared with many of my friends about the story happened to me.
Twenty years ago, I drove a 1 for a living. One night I went to 2 up a passenger at 2:30 AM. When I arrived there, I walked to the door and knocked.
"Just a minute,"3 a weak, elderly voice.
After a long pause, the door opened. An 4 man in his eighties stood before me. By his side was a small suitcase.
When we got into the taxi, he gave me an address, and then asked, "Could you drive through the downtown?"
"It's not the5 way," I answered quickly.
"Oh, I'm in no hurry," he said. "I'm 6 my way to a hospice (晚期病人护理所). I don't have any family left. The doctor says I don't have very long.”
I 7 reached over and shut off the meter (计时器).
For the next two hours, we drove through the city. He showed me the 8 where he had once worked and the building where his friends had worked.
Sometimes he'd ask me 9in front of a special building and would sit staring into the darkness, without saying anything.
In the early morning, he suddenly said, "I'm 10. Let's go now." We drove 11 to the address he had given me.
"How much do I pay you?" he asked.
"12 . It's just like my short tour of downtown." I said. " 13 you have to make a living," he answered.
"Oh, there are other 14 ," I answered.
Almost without thinking, I gave him a hug. He held on to me and said, "You gave an old man a little moment of 15 ."
Sometimes, I doubt whether there is any love between my parents. Every day they are busy trying to make money. They don't act romantically the way couples do in books and on TV. They never say: "I love you." It's not their style.
One day, my mother was sewing (缝) a quilt (被子). I sat down beside her.
"Mom, I have a question to ask you," I said after a while.
"What?" she asked while still working.
"Is there love between you and Dad?" I asked her.
She didn't answer right away.
I thought I had hurt her.
"Susan, look at this thread (线)," she said finally. "Sometimes it appears, but most of it disappears in the quilt. It makes the quilt strong. If life was a quilt, then love should be a thread. It can hardly be seen anywhere, but it's still important."
The next spring, my father suddenly got very sick. My mother had to stay with him in the hospital for a month.
After they got back, she helped my father walk slowly down the road every day. My father had never been so fragile (脆弱的).
"Dad, how are you feeling now?" I asked him one day.
"Susan, don't worry about me," he said. "I just like walking with your mom."
Once, I thought love meant flowers and gifts. Now, I know that love is the thread that holds a family together.

Calvin waited outside Trudy's bedroom. Then it happened—a scream, a very loud scream. Calvin ran to his room and dived into bed.
He heard Mama coming down the hall.
"Did you do this?" his mother asked. Calvin looked out from under the covers. His mother stood over him, holding a rubber spider.
"Do what?" he asked.
"You put that thing in my bed," Trudy told him, stepping out from behind Mama.
"Don't think that just because it's your birthday you can get away with something like this," Mama scolded (责骂).
"You do want your present, don't you?" That wiped the smile off Calvin's face.
"Course I do," he said.
"Then you apologize (道歉)."
Calvin dropped his head. "Sorry Trudy," he muttered (嘟囔).
"Here," Mama said. "Happy birthday." At the breakfast table she handed Calvin an envelope. Inside were tickets to the matinee show of Lomax the Magnificent, the world-famous magician and hypnotist. "You've got two tickets there," Mama said, "and I know someone who'd really love to go along." She smiled at Trudy.
"You don't mean here, do you?" Calvin asked, eyeing his little sister.
"Well, that would be really nice. But those tickets are yours. If you want to ask somebody—" Calvin didn't wait for his mother to finish. He rushed out of the house to cell Rodney, his pal next door, that the two of them were going to see Lomax the Magnificent.
Joe was an old man. The 75-year-old lived very happily in a village and had a beautiful family. Joe had four grandchildren, and they visited him during their holidays.
During one vacation, Joe was preparing his home for the kids: cleaning and buying their favorite foods. After he finished working, he realized he lost his favorite watch. The watch was a gift from his wife when their first child was born. Joe loved the watch very much, especially after his wife's death. He was very upset about losing it.
Once his grandchildren came, they promised him they would find the watch.
One granddaughter asked: "Grandpa, do you remember when you saw the watch last before it went missing?"
"I guess when I was cleaning the barn(谷仓)!" Joe replied.
The children looked for more than two hours with Joe, but they could not find it. The kids were now also sad, but they tried to comfort(安慰) their grandfather.
One grandson went back to the barn to search again. Joe asked why he was going there a second time. But the little boy just asked the others not to follow him and to remain silent.
He was there for about fifteen minutes and then rushed to his grandfather. He found the watch and happily gave it to Joe.
Joe was surprised and asked how he was able to find it. The little boy replied: "I sat there without making a noise, and the barn was so silent. After a few minutes, I heard the ‘tick, tick' sound and found the watch."
Joe hugged and thanked the little boy.
When I was in primary school, I got into a big argument with a boy in my class. I forgot what the argument was about, but I will never forget the lesson I learned that day.
I thought that I was right and he was wrong-and he thought that I was wrong and he was right. The teacher decided to teach us a lesson.
She brought us to the front of the class and asked him to stand on one side of her desk and me on the other. In the middle of her desk was a large round ball. I could clearly see that it was black. She asked the boy what color the ball was. "White," he answered.
I couldn't believe he said the ball was white, when it was obviously black!
Another argument started between us, this time about the color of the ball.
The teacher told us to change places and then asked me what color the ball was. I had to answer "White". It was a ball with two differently colored sides, and from his side it was white.
From my side it was black.
Sometimes we need to look at problems from the other person's view in order to truly understand his or her ideas.

Dear Sir or Madame,
I'm writing this letter to offer my advice for a better town for teenagers. l (相信) there are many things that we can do to make life in our town a lot better for teenagers.
First of all, I think that our town needs more bicycle lanes(不道). A lot of teenagers in my town cycle (到处), but it's very dangerous because there is a lot of (交通,车辆). If there are more cycle lanes in future, it will be much ( 更交全的) for us. Also, I want to say that we need more places for teenagers to go. In addition, teenagers here need more sports facilities(设施). There are places to play ball games like (网球) and football, but what about other sports, for (例子), skateboarding and rollerblading?
(最后). I am sure that we'll make the town better if we don't drop (垃圾). Our town will be much better for everyone in the future, if we can all do something to help now.

A Delicious Meal

"Where are the forks and knives?" Amy asked.
"Oh, you won't those." Tony explained." I will show you how to use chopsticks. Don't worry."
Tony's mother put different foods which were unfamiliar to Amy onto big plates. She asked the kids to carry the food-filled plates out to the table. Amy carried roast duck. It was one of the few dishes she (recognize).
Amy was a little nervous about eating with chopsticks. Tony gave her instructions on how to do it. Amy finally managed to hold the chopsticks. Just when she picked up a piece of chicken in her chopsticks, her fingers suddenly (lose) control of them, and the chicken flew across the table. It landed in Tony's soup with a splash(飞溅). Everyone at the table ( smile).
Tony's father kindly brought out a fork and knife. He handed them to Amy. Amy felt more comfortable. She ate the rest of her dinner easily. It was delicious!
the end of the meal, Amy was given a fortune cookie(签语饼干). She broke it open and read the small note inside," If you practice hard, you will learn many things." Amy laughed and said," if you let me ( take) home a pair of chopsticks, my fortune may come true!
