Chester

Fat and shy, Ben Saunders was the last kid in his class picked for any sports team. "Football, tennis, cricket—anything with a round ball, I was useless," he says now with a laugh. But back then he was the one always made fun of in school gym classes in Devonshire, England.
It was a mountain bike he received for his 15th birthday that changed him. At first he went biking alone in a nearby forest. Then he began to ride the bike along with a runner friend. Gradually, Saunders set up his mind on building up his body, increasing his speed and strength. At the age of 18, he ran his first marathon.
The following year, he met John Ridgway and was hired as an instructor at Ridgway's school in Scotland, where he learned about Ridgway's cold-water exploits. Greatly interested, Saunders read much about North Pole explorers and their exciting and dangerous experiences, then decided his future.
In 2001, after becoming a skillful skier, Saunders started his first long-distance expedition (探险) towards the North Pole. It took unbelievable energy. He suffered frostbite (冻疮), ran into a polar bear and pushed his body to the limit.
Since then Saunders has become the youngest person to ski alone to the North Pole, and he's skied more of the North Pole by himself than any other British man.
Next October, Saunders, 27, heads south from the coast of Antarctica to the South Pole and back, a 2900-kilometre journey that has never been completed on skis.
a. He ran his first marathon.
b. He skied alone in the North Pole.
c. He rode his bike in a forest.
d. He planned an adventure to the South Pole.

SAR offers many great classes, clubs and sports for students. Students at SAR get a good education and they also develop their own interests. Many SAR students become dancers, singers and actors!
How often do you talk with someone? How often do you find you can't remember his/her words? Or, perhaps you get distracted (分心) while he/she is speaking and miss his/her messages. Nowadays, modern life is full of distractions: TVs, radios, telephones, and so on, which can make it difficult to listen attentively.
But how can we listen more effectively? John Kabatzin, professor at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, put forward the idea of mindful(用心的)listening. He said mindfulness means paying attention in a special way, with a purpose, at the present moment and non-judgmentally(不评头论足地).
When we listen mindfully, we many have some difficulties but still remain open to the speaker's ideas and messages. Mindfulness encourages us to focus on the present moment, avoid distractions and ignore physical and emotional reactions(反应)to what people say.
But how can we apply mindful listening to our life? John describes three key elements(要素)which can help improve our listening skills.
First, be present. When we listen, focus on the speaker without distractions. Then cultivate the ability to understand others. When we develop it, we can understand a situation from someone else's point of view. Finally, listen to our own "cues", such as the thoughts, feelings and physical reactions that we have when we feel anxious or angry.
The rule is simple: just "Listen"! Listen carefully and attentively. Pay full attention to the other person, and don't let other thoughts, like what we are going to say next, distract us.
Getting into a quarrel (争吵) with a friend is very common. We quarrel because we can't reach an agreement. As a result, we end up hurting the person we are caring about.
Life is short for everyone. We shouldn't always focus on the problems we have with our friends. If you think your friend is really a good person, it's right to give that friend a second chance. Everyone deserves a second chance, including you.
Apologizing (道歉) is the most effective way to win a friend back. Fights have both right and wrong sides but that really isn't important. The earlier you apologize to your friend, the more he feels what he did was wrong.
What matters is that you realize that true friends are hard to find, and you're not willing to give up a beautiful friendship just because of an argument.
Often, people who fight become even better friends in the end. That's because a true friend is someone whom you've trusted, whom you've shared all your secrets and dreams with, and whom you've learned to love. He or she can understand you and finally forgive you.
A. No one can be perfect.
B. Do forget these problems.
C. Good friends are never easy to lose.
D. Sometimes we say things we don't really mean.
E. You should learn to apologize and forgive others.
F. But whoever apologizes first doesn't really matter.
G. If you don't want to lose your friend, forget your pride and apologize.

When the paint 9, my kids took it and went on a fishing trip. They did not know that there was a hole there. I was not at home at the time. So when I 10 and noticed they had taken the boat, I was 11. Imagine my 12 and joy when I saw them returning safely from fishing."
