When I had something difficult to do, I used to ask my mother for help. But she always said, "Do it yourself, dear." I was not 1 at all. I thought she was the 2 mother in the world! For example, one day, I decided to 3 some friends to my home. My bed room was not in order. Books were everywhere. And I didn't make the bed. I asked my
4 to help me clean it, 5 she still said, "Do it yourself, dear." Because of my "lazy mother", I have to 6 my clothes and clean my room. I have to help my parents
7. I even have to go to the doctor by myself. It is really hard for me to do everything well, but I have learned 8.
As time goes by, I understand my mother. She makes me clever and hardworking. Just as my mom always says, "A lady can't be lazy or she'll be crazy. Work can make you sunny!"
9 a great mother!
A 10 mother is worth one hundred teachers! Don't you think so?
Parents today also worry about their children's diets. Some doctors give the following advice:
◆Teenagers shouldn't eat too much junk food. ◆Teenagers shouldn't eat food with too much salt. Salt can cause high blood pressure in the future. ◆Teenagers should eat food with less fat, oil and sugar. ◆Teenagers need to eat some fruits and vegetables every day. Fruits and vegetables are rich in vitamins and have little fat. ◆Teenagers need to drink more milk. Milk will help their bones grow. ◆Teenagers need to eat breakfast every day. This is good for their bodies and minds. |

Dear Annie,
I have never written a letter to a newspaper before, I have just never felt the need to do such a thing. I have always felt I was quite able to do everything by myself. But now I know I was wrong.
Sometimes you really need help in life, I guess. And that's why I'm writing this letter to you. I have a happy family. I love my children and they love me. I'm a mother of three children. I know well how to bring up children, and two of them are already over twenty, so it is nothing new for me.
But now I have a serious problem: the Internet problem. My little son is just sixteen, and I feel he should do a lot of homework now, but he doesn't seem to be interested in it. He can happily spend six or eight hours at a time on the Internet every day. He chats with people that he has never met before, but speaks little to us. He does lots of useless things on the Internet. And he sees red if you ask him to do his homework.
I just want him to be a good student. Now he seldom does his lessons at home. I'm afraid he will drop behind in his class soon. His father is a doctor, a very kind man. He never seems to be afraid of his father.
What can I do? And don't tell or talk to him. We've tried that and it didn't work. But this is really a big problem in our family. I have tried everything I can think of. I wonder how the Internet is so attractive(有吸引力的). You're my last hope. Please tell me what I can do!
Yours,
Ellen Smith
Happiness is important for everyone. Most people want to be happy but few know how to find happiness. Money and success don't bring lasting happiness. Happiness depends on ourselves. In other words, we make our own happiness.
Here are a few ways to help you be happier.
The first secret of happiness is to enjoy the simple things in life. Too often, we spend so much time thinking about the future, for example, getting into college or getting a good job, that we don't enjoy the present. You should enjoy life's simple pleasures, such as reading a good book, listening to your favorite music, or spending time with close friends. People who have close friends usually enjoy happier and healthier lives.
The second secret of happiness is to be active. Many people go dancing or play sports. People can forget about their problems and only think about the activities.
Finally, many people find happiness in helping others. According to studies, people feel good when they volunteer their time to do many meaningful things for other people. If you want to feel happier, do something nice for someone. You can help a friend with his or her studies, go shopping to get food for an old neighbor, or simply help around the house.
Now maybe you know how to find happiness!

When you want to go shopping, decide how much money you can spend for new clothes first. Then think about the kind of clothes you really need and look for those clothes on sale.
Don't forget that there are labels (标签) inside all new clothes. The labels tell you how to take care of your clothes. The label for a shirt may tell you to wash it in warm water. A sweater label may tell you to wash by washing in cold water. The label on a coat may say "dry clean only". Washing may ruin (损坏) this coat. If you do as the directions say on the label, you can keep your clothes looking their best.
Many clothes today must be dry cleaned. Dry cleaning is expensive. When buying new clothes, check to see if they will need to be dry cleaned. You will save money if you buy clothes that can be washed. You can also save money if you buy clothes that are well made. Well-made clothes last longer. They look good even after they have been washed many times. Clothes that cost more money are not always better made. They do not always fit better. Sometimes less expensive clothes look and fit better than more expensive clothes.
Rich or poor, young or old, we all have problems. We should learn how to deal with our problems. Here are some ways.
Firstly, we should learn to forget. 有时我们会生朋友的气。 Good friendships may be lost. Sometimes children have disagreements and decide not to talk to each other.
However, this usually does not last for long. This is an important lesson for us: We can solve a problem by learning to forget.
Secondly, we should regard problems as challenges. Many students often complain about school. 他们有太多的作业要做。They think the rules are too strict. Education is an important part of our development. As young people, it is our duty to try our best to deal with each challenge with the help of our teachers. Don't worry about our problems. Let's face the challenges.
