Good morning! I want to welcome you to New York City, the Big Apple, an exciting city of
Skyscrapers(摩天大楼). I'm Jack Marino, and I'll give you a tour of the city. After our tour, you will take the ferry(渡船) to the Statue of Liberty, which stands out in New York Harbor.
As you see, Central Park is a very large park, right in the middle of all the tall buildings. Look at all the people walking in the park, bicycling, jogging(慢跑), and picnicking on the grass. And there is a lake with many small boats.
Now we are going down Fifth Avenue. New Yorkers love to walk along Fifth Avenue and look in the store windows. There are clothing stores with beautiful dresses and suits, and jewelry(珠宝) stores with diamonds and gold.
Here we are on Broadway, where you can see plays and musicals. There are many famous theaters right here. When you visit New York, you must go and see a play or a musical.
Now we are going by the Empire State Building(帝国大厦). From the 102nd floor you can see all up and down the island of Manhattan. It is a wonderful way to see the city.
Here is Wall Street, the money center of the United States. These streets are the heart of American business. The people going along the streets look very small with such tall buildings on both sides.
And there's the ferry that will take you to the Statue of Liberty. I hope you enjoy seeing New York City with Tour USA.
a. visit the Statue of Liberty b. see a musical c. walk on Wall Street d. boat in a lake
Hello, my name is Li Lingling. Nowadays some teachers ask parents to check(批改) their kids' homework. About this problem, we did a survey(调查). Here are the ideas of some students.
Wei Shucun, 13
In my opinion, parents shouldn't help teachers with homework checking. Because checking homework is the teachers' job. Through checking homework, teachers can see if the material (材料) is too difficult for students and try to teach it more clearly. If parents do this job, teachers won't know how their students are getting on with their studies. What's more, not all parents are able to check homework. They might not have a good education(教育) themselves and might make mistakes when they check homework. And many parents are busy working in the daytime. They need to rest in the evening.
Liu Zhihan, 12
I don't think asking parents to check easy homework like dictation(听写) is a bad thing. If parents check homework, they can help teachers save time. So teachers can prepare their classes better. If teachers prepare well, they will teach their students better. And students can get better scores. However, for harder homework like problem-solving(应用) questions in math, teachers should still check it. The way that parents solve problems might be different from the way teachers teach them.
Peng Yisen, 12
Education needs everyone's care. Everyone should play his or her own part. It's clear that teachers should grade their students' homework. From my point of view, they need to grade most of students' homework because it's their job. However, parents should take part in teaching their kids too. That's because students finish most of their homework at home. Therefore, parents should keep an eye on it. For example, they should make sure that their kids finish their homework on time.
There is a very foolish(愚蠢的) thief. Do you know what he does one day? When he wants to steal (偷) the bell on his neighbor's door he walks up to the door, takes hold of the bell and pulls hard. The bell makes a very loud noise(噪音). The thief is afraid and goes home quickly.
Then he sits down to think "I must do something about the noise" he says. He thinks and thinks. At last he has an idea. "Ah I'll put some cotton(棉花) in my ears. Then I won't be able to hear the noise." The next day he goes to the door of his neighbor and takes hold of the bell. This time he pulls even harder. The bell rings loudly but the thief does not hear anything. With another hard pull he gets the bell out. Just then the neighbor comes running out. "Steal my bell? I'll teach you a lesson" the angry man shouts. And he hits the thief on the nose.
The foolish thief does not know how the neighbor finds out he is stealing the bell. "Why does he come out so quickly?" he wonders (感到疑惑).

Perhaps you ride a bike to school. Riding a bike can be great fun. Do you know to ride a bike safely?
Careful boys and girls learn to ride (they) bikes well before they go out. How can you tell if you are a (well) rider?
If you ride a bike in a straight line, you can ride well. If you can't, you should practise riding in safe place. To be safe on a bike, you need (use) both hands and both feet. Keep your feet on the pedals (踏板) and your hands on the handlebars all the time. you have a basket on your bike? If so, put your (book) and packages in it. Then you can keep both hands on the handlebars. You know that your bike is built only one person. It is not safe to carry (someone) with you. Why is this so? Keep yourself safe by safety rules when you ride a bike. (watch) where you are going at all times.

Lucy: I like playing games on the computer at the weekend. I like cooking games best because I can learn how to cook.
David: It's a habit for me to check my email after I get up every morning. I often use emails because I can send pictures to my friends.
