Marchenko has traveled all over Rusia, and believes that there is no other land more beautiful than his hometown. He decided to take advantage of the beautiful environment and build a hotel.
He had noticed the other restaurants and hotels in the area all looked the same way,so he tried to come up with something special that would attract visitors. He was wondering what kind of hotel he would build when the Black Pearl came into his mind. He decided to build his own Black Pearl ship. Without any ship building experience, he went online and downloaded photos of famous ships to use as guides. And he started working on it immediately. It's been two years since he worked on his ship. Now, his own Black Pearl is starting to take shape on the Yenisei River.
The 21-meter-long vessel is made of wood produced locally, and the ship's "captain"plans to add all the tiniest details of the original Black Pearl. Right now, Marchenko is working on the interior decorations(内部装修). He spends most of his time in the workshop, making all the little designs by hand. So far, he has spent 3. 5 million rubles,Marchenko hopes t0 finish the work. this summer. Judged by the attention his ship is getting in its current state, he believes that upon completion, tourists will flock to see his wooden wonder.
For people, who are interested in sound, the field of sound technology is definitely making noise. In the past, sound engineers worked in the back rooms of recording studios, but many of today's sound professionals are_ sharing their knowledge and experience with professionals in other fields to create new products based on the phenomenon we call sound.
Sound can be used as a weapon. Imagine that a police officer is chasing a thief. The thief tries to escape. And the officer can't let him get away. He pulls out a special device, points it at the suspect, and switches it on. The thief drops to the ground. This new weapon is called a Long Range Acoustic Device(LRAD,远程定向声波发射器). It produces a deafening sound so painful that it temporarily disables a person. The noise from the LRAD is directed like a ray of light and travels only into the ears of that person, but it is not deadly.
For those who hunger for some peace and quiet, sound can now create silence. Let's say you are at the airport, and the lttle boy on the seat next to you is humming(哼唱) a short commercial song. He hums it over and over again, and you are about to go crazy. Thanks to the Silence Machine, a British invention, you can get rid of the sound without upsetting the boy or his parents. One may wonder how the Silence Machine works. Well, it functions by analyzing the waves of the incoming sound and creating a second set of outgoing waves. The two sets of waves cancel each other out. Simply turn the machine or point it at the target, and your peace and quiet comes back.
Directed sound is a new technology that allows companies to use sound in much the same way as spotlights(聚光灯) are used in the theater. A spotlight lights up only one section of a stage; similarly, "spotsound" creates a circle of sound in one targeted area. This can be useful for businesses such as restaurants and stores because it offers a new way to attract customers. Restaurants can offer a choice of music along with the various food choices on the menu, allowing customers to have more control over the atmosphere in which they are dining.Directed sound is also beginning to appear in shopping centers and even at homes.
①It can be pointed at the target.
②It can lower the sound around you.
③It can silence the people around you.
④It can check the waves of the incoming sound.
⑤It can send out a second set of outgoing waves.
White- tailed deer in New York have contracted the Omicron coronavirus variant(变体),the first confirmation of it in wild animals, according to a research team. The deer on Staten Island- an island borough(区) in the southwestern part of New York City一are believed to have caught the highly transmissible variant from humans, according to researchers at Penn State University, White Buffalo- a conservation nonprofit, and the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation.
It has sparked concern that the distinctive, pretty, white tailed deer that populate many states in the US could soon become a host for new variants of coronavirus if the virus continues to mutate(变化),researchers said. But the research hasn't yet been published in a scientific journal.
Suresh Kuchipudi, a veterinary microbiologist at Penn State who led the research team, told The New York Times, "You can imagine this could be a never-ending cycle of deer constantly circulating the virus among themselves and picking up the new variants."The study was conducted between Dec 12, 2021, and Jan 31. Researchers took blood samples from at least 131 deer. At least 68 were given PCR tests. Seven of the 68 deer had coronavirus and four had Omicron. Nineteen of the 131 deer had antibodies(抗体) to the virus, which points to them having had coronavirus before, researchers said. One deer with Omicron also had antibodies.
While most of the deer probably caught Omicron from humans and spread it among each other, there is no evidence yet that the deer can transmit the virus back to humans, the researcher said,
In another research conducted in November 2020, white-tailed deer in Iowa and Ohio deer were confirmed as having earlier versions of the coronavirus. Figures from the US Agriculture Department (USDA) show that deer in 13 states have caught the coronavirus. In 2021, the USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service conducted research to search for antibodies in serum samples collected from January 2020 to 2021 in free ranging white tailed deer,
Their findings showed that deer populations in Illinois, Michigan, New York and Pennsylvania had been exposed to the coronavirus. Of 481 samples collected from 32 counties in four states, antibodies were detected in 33 percent of the samples. "The finding that wild white-tailed deer have been exposed to SARS-CoV-2 is not unexpected," the USDA said in July 2021,"given that white-tailed deer are susceptible to the virus, are abundant in the United States and often come into close contact with people.
