Yang Lei's mother agreed with her daughter's 3. She said that both she and her husband thought this was a good idea. "Young people today need to 4different things. " she said.
Most of the5 lived in school dormitories (宿舍)They worked very hard. They got up at 5:00 a. m. and read books until 11:00 a. m. They loved having the volunteer teachers there. " There's no difference between you and them. "" says Yang Lei" They say that we are like big brothers or sisters to them, and they feel 6. "
For some certain reasons, some of the students may not be able to go to senior high school or 7. Families were 8and there often wasn't enough money for education. "I can do nothing about that, " says Yang Lei, " "but l can 9my students' eyes to the outside world and give them a good. 10in life. " She says she likes being a good influence(影响) on the children's lives.
This morning I fell over and broke my leg when playing football. The teacher took me to the hospital. The doctor asked me to stay here for three days. She said that when I get home. I must stay in bed for two more weeks. |
|
Last week I fell down while I was playing games with my friend. I hit my teeth. My mum took me to the dentist's (牙科诊所) in her car. The dentist checked my teeth and told me to take some medicine. He said that it was nothing serious. He told me not to be worried. |
|
I went to the cinema with my parents. It was very hot in the cinema and I started to feel awful. I then fell on the floor and my mum tried to wake me up. My dad called an ambulance(救护车). A doctor came and checked some parts of my body. He said I was fine, but he also told me to go home and rest for two days. |
Tom was an eight-year-old boy. He was sick to death of school because he didn't want to do his homework. He was always looking for excuses not to do it. When he sneezed(打喷嚏) or had a headache, he told his mom he was seriously ill and he couldn't do his homework. Though Tom's mom was angry, she didn't know how to deal with him. Most of the time, Tom went to school without finishing his homework. Even though he finished his homework indeed, he usually did it very carefully.
One Thursday evening, Tom told his mom that he couldn't do his homework because he was having a fever. After his mom took his temperature, she realized that Tom didn't tell the truth. So he had to do his homework. To his mom's surprise, the light in Tom's bedroom was still on at midnight. His mom opened the door quietly and found Tom was already asleep. His homework was only half completed.
The next morning, Tom went to school as usual. He left his homework at home on purpose(故意地). When Tom returned home from school, his mom asked, "Did your teacher punish(惩罚) you today? I know you didn't finish your homework last night. "
"No, mom. "Tom answered.
"How did you make it?" his mom asked him, "What did you say to your teacher?" "I told my teacher that an accident happened to me this morning. "
"What?" Tom's mom looked at him with eyes wide.
"The school bus fell into the pool on my way to school." Tom continued," l climbed out of the pool, but my homework didn't climb out of the pool. "
"_______" Tom's mom said.
"Of course, I don't." Tom said," But my teacher doesn't know that. "
Everyone worried. But how do you deal with(处理) your worries? Whether(是否)your worries are big or small, you can take these three ways to deal with your worries:
◆Try to find out what you're worried about
Sometimes, you will know what you're worried about. Other times, you might not. Try to find it out first. If you can't, you can ask for help.
◆Think of ways to make it better
There is always something you can do to help you feel less worried. Sitting there worrying is no fun and it cannot help you.
Grades at school are often top worried for kids. If you're worried about grades, ask yourself these questions:
Why are grades important? What do grades mean to me?
How do I get ready for class? Do I go over(复习my notes even when there isn't a test?
Do l have a good place to do my homework?
Have I tried different ways of studying?
If your worry is about a fight you had with a friend, you might write down all the things you could do: write a note to him or her, invite him or her to a basketball game, say sorry to him or her, etc. Once you have a list of things you could do, you can choose the one that gets your friend back.
◆Ask for help
When you're worried, it can help to find someone to talk to. You can ask your parents, friends, or teachers for help.
Jessie and her two younger sisters lived with their mother in an apartment building.
One evening, a fire started on the second floor. The smoke quickly spread (蔓延) through the whole building and the fire alarm went off. All the people ran out of the building. There was no time for the mother to take other things, so she just took several winter jackets for her children. They ran outside a quickly as possible.
Soon, the firemen arrived and tried to control the fire so that it wouldn't spread to other buildings. Standing in horror, the children watched their apartment building burn(燃烧) for hours.
Because of the fire, this family and twelve other families in the same building were homeless. But what happened next? They got help from the Red Cross office and many other people. They brought clothes, food and even money. A week later, all the families moved into their newly rented(租用的) houses.
Jessie's mother told her children, "So many people helped us. We must never forget what they did for us. "
The three children agreed. Right away, they started to make special cards to thank people for helping them. At the bottom(底部)of their cards, they added this message: Don't play with fire. It's dangerous.

I work in a cleaning company (公司). Usually people call us, and we give them housecleaning(serve).
One day, I got a call from a man (name) Jim. "I want to help an old man. He just had surgery(手术). Can I pay for it without (let) him know?" "he asked. Then he explained to us why he wanted to help him. This old man is Jim's neighbor, Mr. Brown. He lived (lonely) and just returned from the hospital. There was still something wrong with his leg. His house was in a mess, but he(not do) any housework. Even (sweep) the floor was difficult for him. So Jim offered (help) Mr. Brown and he said he didn't want to bring the old man any (press).
The next day, we went to Mr. Brown's house. Because we promised Jim not to tell his name, we didn't tell too much to Mr. Brown. He was touched by the gift from someone he didn't know. Sometimes we don't expect (depend) on others, as we are afraid of making them (get) into trouble. However, there is always someone who cares for you and tries his best to help you.
