During the past summer season, photos of snow leopards were taken by five different special cameras in Pingwu, Sichuan province, surprising many wildlife scientists. This shows that the living area of snow leopards in China's southwestern mountains has become larger.
Pingwu, about 4200 meters above the sea level, is famous for being home to a large number of wild pandas. The fourth national survey of pandas in 2015 found that there were 1,864wild pandas in China, including 335 in Pingwu. As a result, over half of Pingwu's land area has become part of the Panda National Park, which has a planned area of 22,000 square kilometers across Sichuan, Shanxi and Gansu provinces. It is among five national parks China named in October, 2021.
Through shutting down mines (煤矿), planting more trees and other measures, protection efforts in the park have not only made pandas less endangered, but also are offering safety and protection for other rare species (珍借物种). About 87% of the Panda National Park lies in Sichuan. It's the home of more than 8,000 species of animals and plants.
The province has used special cameras and forest protectors as a closely connected protection system. Thousands of forest protectors have been working year-round on more than 900 routes. Over the past four years, they have met rare animals for about 1,600 times. In Pingwu alone, more than 4,100 species of plants and 1,900 species of animals have benefited from the protection of pandas. For example, the number of takin, a rare animal, has increased by 10% over the past ten years. Meanwhile, the protection of pandas causes the development of human society, too.
Chinese astronaut Wang Yaping made history on November 7 when she became the country's first woman to do a spacewalk, according to the national space agency.
At the moment, Wang and Zhai Zhigang, two of the three members at China's new Tiangong space station, successfully completed the 6.5-hour spacewalk in the early hours of the morning of November 8, according to the China Manned Space Agency. The third astronaut of the Shenzhou-13 members, Ye Guangfu, stayed on the space station to support the spacewalk.
It's the first time the astronauts have left the space station since their arrival on October 16. Shortly after stepping out of the spaceship, Wang waved to audiences on Earth and said she felt great. During the spacewalk, the team fixed a suspension (悬挂) device and connectors to the station's robotic arm. They also tested the safety of supporting equipment (设备), including the spacesuit produced by China.
Wang is China's second woman in space, after Liu Yang made history by joining the Shenzhou-9 spacecraft in 2012. Before Wang, only 15 women around the world had done spacewalks since 1984, when Soviet astronaut Svetlana Savitskaya became the first to do so. So far, most women spacewalkers have been American NASA astronauts.
The Shenzhou-13 members will do one or two more spacewalks during their six-month stay at the space station. This is not the first time astronauts have worked at Tiangong space station. In September, three other Chinese astronauts successfully completed a three-month stay at the station. By December 2022, China plans to have the station ready to be used—a great target that seems to be possible.
Everyone needs friends, and if you fail to make friends,
Maybe you have social faults such as talkativeness (多嘴) and improper behaviour, which drive away your new friends. Whatever your social faults may be,
A friendly person does his best to make a stranger feel comfortable, wherever he happens to be. Put yourself in the other person's place and make him feel welcome.
It makes your new friends feel happy. And it gives them the feeling that they have made an impression (印象) on you because you remember them.
If you do not agree with other people on a certain matter, or you will lose friends easily.
Finally a friendly person thinks of not only himself, but also others.
A. Smile at someone and you may surely get a smile in return. B. do not argue, but discuss, C. you should think if there's something wrong with your personality (性格). D. Treat different people in different ways. E. Try to remember names. F. People who refuse to consider others have few friends. G. look at them honestly, and try to correct them. |
Do you know Stonehenge? It's one of Britain's most famous historical (place). Every year more than 750,000 people (visit) it. People like to go to this place as they want to see the sun (rise) on the longest day of the year, especially June.
Different people have different ideas about Stonehenge. Some historians believed Stonehenge was a temple, historian Paul Stoker thinks this can't be true because Stonehenge was built many centuries ago. Other people believe the stones were used to keep people (health). No one is sure Stonehenge was used for, but most agree that the position of the stones must be for a special purpose. People might build it (respect) ancestors.
Stonehenge was built (slow) over a long period of time. Most historians believe it must be almost 5,000 years old. The stones are so big and heavy no one knows how it was built, but we do know the builders must have been hard-working and great planners.
The teen years can be a stressful time for both teenagers and their families. While everyone has stress, teens have new and different kinds of stress they may have never before had. As a parent, you play an important role in helping your teens to deal with stress.
Talk to your teens when you notice signs of stress. Some of the signs that make your teens get stressed out might include unhappiness, worry or physical illness. Ask them what you can do to help. Talking to them can be helpful.
Advise your teens to get enough physical exercise. Exercise reduces (减少) the production of stress chemicals in the body and helps to sleep well. Ask your teens what kind of activity they think they might enjoy—that way, they'll be more likely to keep practicing it.
Help your teens manage their daily activities by making a timetable. Many teens feel stressed because they feel like they don't have enough time in the day, so they have too much pressure. Make a timetable that includes enough time for homework and family time.
Make sure that your teens can get enough sleep each night. A lack (缺少) of sleep can cause feelings of stress. Most teens need between 8. 5 and 9. 25 hours of sleep each night. Make sure your teens have a comfortable quilt, set a bed and wake time. Don't let your teens drink coffee, tea, soda and chocolate, close to bedtime.
Do you feel tired of the same everyday life? "Survival (生存) Holidays" is for children to go into the lonely place for exciting activities. About 1,100 schools will take children into the great outdoors without their parents this summer.
Why do people like "Survival Holidays"? Because they think being close to nature is good for children. Many children in big cities spend all time watching TV and playing computer games. "Survival Holidays" gives them an important change.
Is "Survival Holidays" a wonderful idea? It is. Children will have more free time to play and learn to face danger. They don't know what to do when they are in danger. Even something like crossing a small river seems to be a hard challenge. Children are not comfortable with danger. 'Even small danger like getting their feet wet or falling down seems very terrible to them.
Many people think the survival activities are good for children. Even years later, they will still remember what they have learned. Some have learned to stay clam in difficult times. Some have learned now to keep safe. Others have learned how to work in a team. All these skills will help them a-lot in their lives.
