ROME— four people, including the wife of the factory's owner, died on Wednesday after explosions (爆炸) at the Barcelona Pozzo di Gotto fireworks company, Italian media reported.
According to online reports by La Republic and TGCOM24, at least one other person is missing and three others are seriously injured, with two of them in dangerous condition. Among the dead was 71-year-old Venera Mazzeo, the wife of the factory owner Vito Costa. Mazzeo reportedly died on the scene. Antonio Costa, the owner's son, was seriously injured and was transported to a hospital in the regional capital of Palermo for treatment. Less seriously injured persons were moved to the nearby Milazzo Hospital to be treated for burns and other injuries. Many were transported by local people who reached the scene before ambulances could arrive, reports said.
The factory, located near the northeast of the southern Italian island of Sicily, near the city of Messina, has been in operation for more than ten years without any accident. Police reports showed that two separate explosions took place, with the first explosion likely causing the second one. Media reports said that police have guessed that sparks (火花)from a repairing project reached some of the explosive material stored in the factory and was likely the cause of the first explosion.
Reports also showed that firefighters were able to control the flame, which burnt buildings on the factory and threatened nearby structures.
Artificial intelligence (AI) has grown into a hot spot industry in recent years, and it has witnessed an increasing number of start-up projects and expanding financing. However, the prospering trend in the field may hit a wall in 2019.
According to a white paper regarding the AI industry released last July by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology? China is home to 4,040 AI companies at present. However, 70 percent of the firms have failed to receive venture capital (风险投资).
In this regard, it's fair enough to say that this year might bring about a cold winter for the industry, at least for those selling "fake" AI technologies.
"It's becoming hard for AI technologies to be applied in the market and 90 percent of the start-ups in this industry may fail if proper fields of application are not found," said Ai Yu, Managing Director of China Everbright Limited, a Hong Kong-based financial services company.
Experts said that AI will see a larger application in people's work and life this year, and core sectors such as AI chips will become more and more professional, making it difficult for entry into this industry.
Large numbers of AI start-ups have been popping up in China, and some of them are leading the world in facial recognition, autopilot and natural language interaction, said Liu Jiong, chairman of the board of Lanting Capital, a cross-border, medical focused strategic consulting and investment firm.
However, there still are many AI firms that haven't found proper methods to make, money, which is an issue that the Chinese AI industry must face in the future.
"Given the current money shortage in the capital market, a large number of companies will be gradually knocked out because of their relatively weak technical strength," said Liu Wanqing, venture partner of DayWin Asset Management. According to him, those backed by powerful technologies are expected to embrace sound development.
Insiders noted that more and more companies were calling themselves AI firms with the inflow of large amount of money into the AI industry, but it still couldn't hide the fact that many of them were knocked off. Blindness and aimless investment would only hold back the healthy development of the industry, and the only way for sustained development is to smash the "bubbles" first.
At a Dalkomm Coffee shop in Seoul, a robot takes orders from you through a mobile app or a touch screen and then makes fresh coffee. Coffee is just one of the many industries that use automated(自动化的) services in this technologically forward-thinking nation. Others include restaurants, food stores, banks and factories. The development comes as many Koreans, especially the young, are struggling to find work.
Just this week, workers who operate about 2,500 large cranes(吊车) at building sites went on strike(罢工).They were against the growing use of robotic small cranes for building. Other labor unions have also been against the use of automated devices instead of human workers at Emart, South Korea's biggest food store group.
South Korean officials also changed plans to completely automate the nation's road fee collection system. They acted after receiving blame for cutting 6,700 jobs. Instead, the system will be partly automated and keep all its existing human fee collectors.
South Korea had the highest percentage or robots to human workers in the world in 2017. The International Federation of Robotics says South Korea has 710 robots for every 10,000 workers. The international average is 85 robots per 10,000 employees.
South Korea's lowest permitted worker wage has increased by 27.3% over the last two years. This has led more businesses so cut labor costs by using automation, says Suh Yong Gu of the Business School at Sookmyung Women's University in Seoul.
Even with the job losses, South Korea's businesses are replacing employees with automation and young people are welcoming the change. Suh said, "Nowadays, Millennials those who were born after 1980 are prime consumers. This generation tends not to like meeting other people. So they like technology that enables people to minimize face-to-face interactions."
As a student, part of the process of becoming a better writer is learning to revise (修改) one's written work. You should help your child know that revision addresses organization, focus and purpose, and helps a writer decide whether he or she addresses an audience appropriately and explains his or her thoughts on a clear and logical basis. Editing is the process of reviewing a piece for errors, word choice, clarity, tone and the like. Proofreading is the final quality check for correct spelling and proper punctuation.
Secondly, you need to tell your child that the writing process is made up of several steps. But advanced writers understand that a finished piece should be polished — an impossibility if that piece has not been carefully revised at least once. Your child should think of the writing process as separate steps, each of which is important: planning, outlining, writing, revising, editing, and proofreading.
Thus, thirdly, you are supposed to discuss your child's written work at the conceptual (概念的) level. If he or she is trying to make the readers believe something in an essay, it is important to ask relevant questions when revising that essay. Is the argument well thought out? How did he or she support that argument?
Overall, revision is about making writing stronger. You can read a newspaper article or essay with your child, and then, ask questions — did the introduction make you want to keep reading? Was the main point clear? Pointing out areas you think were confusing or not as strong as they could be, and offer suggestions on how you would try to improve those areas.
A. Adding or deleting words isn't revising.
B. Revision is different from proofreading or editing.
C. Therefore, make sure to show your child how to revise.
D. Is there information in the essay that is not related to the topic?
E. Is the argument in the essay strong enough to make readers convinced?
F. As a parent, you should impress on your child the challenge of revising the essay.
G. Beginners are taught that writing involves developing an idea and putting it on paper.
My wife and I moved to a small town along the coast. Our three-bedroom, two-bath home can (comfortable) accommodate a total of about eight people, us (include).
Here is the problem: We have some close friends who occasionally come to visit. On one previous visit, they announced at dinner that a close friend of (they) would be "drop-ping by" the following day.
The next day, their friend showed up with her two children, her older sister and her dog. It was obvious they intended to stay with us, because they dragged in pillows from their car.
My wife welcomed them with open arms. We then set about (try) to find space for them, many of whom slept on the floor or the sofa. This brought number of people from seven to 11, plus an additional dog.
When everyone left the end of the three-day holiday, my wife and I had a long discussion about what (happen) and what we would do about it. We agreed that our friends took advantage of us, and we decided (change) the visiting rules.
As a result, our friends' visits are less frequent, which makes my wife (happy). She wants to throw the new rules out. I totally disagree. What is the way out?
Most people who work in London get a break of about an hour for lunch.1they mostly live too far from home to go back there2lunch, they have to3other arrangements for their midday meal.
Many large companies have a canteen (自助食堂) for their employees. In4canteens the food served is simple but5, and there is some6of choice. But the number of dishes7 usually small. A meal in a canteen is inexpensive and may12of soup, fish and chips or meat and two vegetables,13fruit or pudding of some14 as dessert. Some companies that do not run a canteen15their staff with luncheon-vouchers (午餐券), which many restaurants will accept in16of money.
As there are so many people17work in London, there are numerous cafes and restaurants in every area that is not purely residential. A meal18cost anything from a modest sum to quite a few pounds,19on the restaurant and the food chosen.20, one can generally get a meal, or at least a snack, in a pub. In recent years there has also been a big increase in the number of 'take-away' food shops of all kinds.

After a plane crashed in South China on March 21st, rescued workers managed to find two black boxes. The black boxes may provide the key to understand why the plane crashed. When black boxes are recovered in well condition, investigators (调查员) can analyze and produce a report on their content for about three months, but it can take much longer when they are damaged, said Li Xiaojin, a professor from the Civil Aviation University of China. One of the black box from the crashed Flight MU5735 was found on March 23rd. The second black box is recovered on March 27th. The black boxes are not black. Therefore, they are painted bright orange to aid in their recovery after accidents. They are usually placed in the tail of a plane, which they are more likely to survive a crash. It can work for 30 days without any electricity.
