My dad is a sports lover. He always encouraged me to be on sports 1as I grew up. As I became a sports parent, he went on to give 2advice.
Last year, Dad asked my son, Joe, if he was going to 3 the basketball team. Joe said, "I don't know. " Dad knew that Joe was 4and unsure of himself. He thought for a moment, and then said, "Don't ever let anyone tell you that you 5do something, and never be afraid to try something new, even if you think people will 6you. "
This spring, Joe decided to play basketball and made the team. His grandfather was very 7. After the first few weeks of 8, the assistant coach had to leave the team. The coach sent out a(n) 9asking if any parents would take over the job. 10many other parents, I thought someone else would volunteer(自愿). Then a second and third email came out asking for 11. No one was volunteering. I 12what my father had told my son about never being afraid to try something new. At the next practice, I told the 13I could take over the job. Another parent walked up to me and said, "That's lovely, 14you can't coach these boys. " This parent looked at me, a 15155-cm woman, and thought I could not coach a basketball team of teenage boys. I did it anyway.

Futurecraft 4D is a new kind of sports shoes. If you like running, this pair of shoes must be your favourite. It can help you run more quickly and jump much higher as it can be designed (设计)to your own need. It takes only two hours to make one pair. How can it be so fast? E-sight Glasses
For the blind (盲的) people, it's dangerous to go outside alone and there are always accidents around them. But now, with the E-sight, they can not only walk safely, but also "see" clearly what is happening around them. It's an exciting device(设备) that can enable them to "see" the faces of loved ones, "watch" their kids playing soccer, "read" Sunday newspapers and even travel by themselves.
The writer, E. B. White wrote Charlotte's Web.
One day, on a small farm in Maine, a man sat in a barn(谷仓) watching a large grey spider spin(结网) a web. The man was E. B. White. E. B., or Andy, as he was called, thought spiders were special animals. The American writer thought that one day he might like to write a children's book about a spider.
But writing was hard work for Andy. He wrote many articles, and poems. He also wrote one children's book, Stuart Little. But Andy could never just hurry to turn an idea into an article or a book. He said that he needed to let his ideas ripen.
So for years, Andy continued(继续) to think about writing a children's book about a spider. He did some of his best thinking while he walked slowly around his farm.
Once while he was cleaning his barn, he found a spider's egg sac. Andy decided to see the egg hatch(孵化). But he had to leave for a trip to New York City. So he found a small box and put the sac inside. When he got to his hotel, he put the box on the dresser. One morning he woke up, and there were hundreds of baby spiders running across the dresser!
Years later, Andy finally began writing Charlotte's Web, the story of a spider named Charlotte and pig named Wilbur. Andy wrote most of the books in the small boat house of his farm.
Sometimes he stopped writing and drew pictures of spiders. Andy always said Charlotte's Web was more than just a children's story about animals. It was a timeless story about true friendship.
There is a new study on teenagers who are between 13 and 19 years old. The study shows that today's teenagers are growing up more slowly than those before.
Scientists from San Diego State University have worked on a study on the behaviors(行为) of 8 million teenagers in seven different countries over the past 40 years. The results tell us that compared to(比较) the teenagers in the past, today's teenagers are less responsible(负责任的) and that they take much more time to do things than their parents or grandparents did. They are also less possible to have a part-time job. What's more, when they get older, they begin to understand that they should help their parents do housework, while their grandparents and parents helped do housework at a very early age. "This is a 'slow life strategy(策略)', " said Professor Jean Twenge.
"The development(发展) of today's teenagers has slowed down. 18-year-olds are more like 15-year-olds in the past, " said Professor Twenge. "Teenagers are taking much fewer risks(风险) than those did in the past. " Scientists have also found that more teenagers spend longer time living with their parents instead of renting (租) their own room or apartment.
One of the reasons(原因) for these behaviors is that today's teenagers would like to spend much time online. They keep on connecting with social media(社交媒体), watching videos or playing games on the Internet. Instead, they spend less time living in the real world. Another one is that parents do much for their children and protect them too much. In fact, parents had better let their children do everything by themselves. They should try their best to make their children independent as soon as possible.
a. Because their parents do too many things for them.
b. Because it's difficult for them to find a job in society.
c. Because they don't like living in the real world at all.
d. Because they spend too much time online.

I was cycling one day and noticed a man in front of me, about 250 meters ahead. I could tell he was cycling a little slower than me and I decided to catch up with him.
I had about one kilometer to go on the road before turning off. So I started cycling faster and faster. After a few minutes I was only about 100 meters behind him, so I really picked up the pace (速度)and pushed myself.
▲ . I felt so good. "I win, " I thought. "But he might even not know we were racing(比赛). "
However, after I passed him, I was so focused on ( 集中注意力于) cycling against him that I missed(错过) my turn. I had to turn around and go back.
Isn't it just like life? We often focus on competing with others, trying to show that we are better than them. We spend our time chasing after(追赶) them and we miss out on our own way in life.
The problem with unhealthy competition is that it's a never-ending cycle. There will always be somebody in front of you. So stay focused and live a healthy life. Run your own race and wish others well.

Dominika Cebula is from Poland. She is art student and she likes plants and flowers very much. She thought the bus stops in her city (be) boring. She tried to add(增加) colour to a bus stop near her school, it was not an easy job.
Firstly, Cebula asked her family and friends (collect) flowers for her. Then, the girl spent months (make) hundreds of dry(干的) flowers. Finally, Cebula put (they) in glass so people could enjoy the flowers longer.
How did Cebula get this idea? "People usually feel much (happy) when they see flowers, " Cebula said. "People love flowers. And they are good (present) for our family and friends in our lives. "
