As a short girl, I often felt shy in front of a crowd of people. So I didn't1 talking to anyone.
I still remember my first day in the new school. My teacher asked me to go to the blackboard to write my name on it. Of course I knew my name and how to write it. 2, I was so shy that I was shaking. Standing at the blackboard with the 3of so many classmates on my back made me nervous. I couldn't 4 all the things but those eyes. I didn't know 5 to do. I wanted to cry and I 6write a word.
"Don't be nervous. Just 7us and write your name," the teacher said8a big smile.
"What is your name?" I was 9nervous that I couldn't answer.
"Claire," all the students answered but me. Then they laughed 10. I went back to my 11 sadly. After class, the teacher asked me to go to her office, and told me 12 might feel nervous when speaking in front of many people. That was nothing. Just do it as often as possible. I followed her advice. Then I made 13friends in the class and I tried my best 14 better grades.
No one is always perfect.15, you feel terrible, while at other times, you are OK. We should learn to stop for a while and try to make a change.

Studying too much?
Most people work or study from Monday to Friday. The weekend is usually a time of rest. But today's Chinese teenagers can hardly rest during the weekends.
According to a survey, 24% of the Grade 8 students in Beijing have classes at the weekend. Over 40% of the middle school students have less than eight hours' sleep each night because of study.
And this doesn't happen only in Beijing. Ji Chunying is a Grade 9 student in Guangzhou. The 14-year-old girl has to get up at 6:45am on Saturday. Then she has classes all the day. On Sunday, she goes to extra(额外)classes for math and physics. But Ji doesn't complain. She says her classmates all work very hard.
Finding time to have fun
Zhao Ming, 13, is from Zhanjiang, Guangdong. Zhao's weekend is less busy. But he still spends Saturday in school. On Sunday, after finishing homework, he plays basketball. "I feel happy because I still have time to do the things I like," he said. Some students are much luckier. Ding Yi, a Grade 8 student from Laiwu, Shandong, is one of them. During the weekend, Ding usually gets up at 8:00am. Then she spends some time doing homework. After that she is free to go shopping or watch TV. "My teacher says I don't need to push myself too much. Learning well at school is enough," Ding said. "I feel pretty lucky."
There is an old tree on a dry land. The tree has so many branches (树枝) that it brings shadow (树荫) to hundreds of travelers.
One day, two travelers got to the tree. They walked for a long time in the hot sun. They were too hot and tried to find a place to rest. Luckily, they found the big tree.
They made a decision to take a rest under the tree. They slept there for a while. When they woke up, they felt hungry and one traveler climbed up the tree. But he was sad to see nothing.
He started to say bad words to the tree. "Oh, this is just a useless tree without any fruit on it!" The other traveler said nothing about the tree but asked his friend to be quiet. However, the traveler in the tree still shouted at the tree.
The tree couldn't stand the traveler at last. He said in a sad yet strong voice," You can't be so ungrateful (忘恩负义的) to me, Just look back to the moment when you got here in the hot sun! I gave you a cool and comfortable place to rest. You would die now without me!"
Many people do much for us, but we sometimes forget to give thanks but only complain (抱怨)! Make sure not to say any bad words to the one who has helped you.
①One traveler shouted at the tree.
②One traveler climbed up the tree.
③The travelers had a good rest.
④Two travelers got to the tree.
Do you have true friends? Do you want to know better between you and your friends? There are three different kinds of friends: "pest friends", "guest friends", and "best friends".
The first kind of friend is simply acquaintances (熟人), and all you usually know about them is their names. You may meet this kind of friend at school, at work, or on the bus, but you don't miss them when they're not around. When this kind of friend does something bad, you don't tell them. That is why they are called "pest friends".
The second kind of friend could also be called "guest friends". They are closer than acquaintances, but not as close as true friends. You know their names, a little of what they like or dislike, and a little of their family histories; you usually have a few things in common, but you don't talk about anything deep, such as your wishes or fears (害怕), and they don't open up to you how they really feel.
The last kind of friend, the "best friend", is the one you know the deepest. You're like family, and know everything about each other. You have no problem staying at each other's houses, and you share your deepest feelings and thoughts. They will correct you when you're wrong, and though they may not be perfect, they at least will always care about you, and hardly ever do anything bad to hurt you.
We all have our pest, guest, and best friends. We should value all friendships and remember, all best friends start out as just acquaintances.
Everybody knows that healthy eating habits are very important. Here are five good eating habits for you. I'm sure you will live a healthy and happy life if you follow them.
Drink about 8 cups of water every day. You may need even more water when you do exercise.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. You will have more energy (能量) after you eat breakfast.
Don't eat junk food or food that has much fat for lunch. They are bad for your health. If you don't have enough time to have a healthy lunch, bring some bread with you for a quick lunch.
Fruit and vegetables should be a necessary part of your food. You can have a vegetable salad for your lunch. If you don't like eating vegetables, you can eat some fruit.
Try to have dinner at least 3 hours before you go to bed. Your body needs time to digest (消化) most of the food.
A. Eat fruit and vegetables every day B. Drink enough water C. Don't eat dinner too late D. Don't forget breakfast E. Don't stay up late F. Try to eat light (清淡的) lunch |
