With the winter vacation coming, l want to find a part-time job, because I don't want to ask my parents for money. I want to have a job at a winter camp. I can play games with children there. In fact. I can find a job. It was cleaning up tables-at a store.
At first, I wanted to give up the job, because I got up too early in the morning. It made me unhappy. I never forgot how tired I felt on my first day, but I never forgot sit-ting together and talking about our days with my workmates(同事). Suddenly, I felt good to be a member of them.
After working at the store for one year, I was used to getting up so early, because l knew there would be a few good times every day there. Working at the store, I learned to grow into(长成) a boy. I can depend on myself and get along well with others. And I'm not the shy person that I used to be. Meeting an impolite customer(顾客) might make me feel bad, but very soon I could deal with(处理)it without difficulty. The job gave me so much, and I can't, wait to go back to the store and continue to grow from my experience.
Mary likes to have very short hair. Her friends think that it looks like a boy's hair, but they never make jokes about it because Mary is a big, strong young woman and she doesn't think these jokes are funny. Mary always goes to the barber's shop (理发店)once two weeks to have her hair cut(理发) and washed. So she and the barbers(理发师) become good friends. But now, she doesn't come for a long time.
One day a woman with long curly hair came into the barber room. Of course no one recognized (认识) her. And the barbers were all surprised to learn that it was Mary. She said she would marry(结婚) very soon. And she said she was thankful for the long hair, because the long hair made her look like a real girl.
It's never too late to do what you want to do. Grandma Moses grew up on a farm. As a child, she loved drawing. But she hardly ever did it because of the busy farm work.
Grandma Moses spent all her life on the farm. When she was old and found farm work difficult, she started to paint at the age of 78.
An art lover found Grandma Moses painting in a shop in 1938. He bought them and the next day he went to her farm and bought all her paintings. Soon Grandma Moses became famous. In 1940, at the age of 80, she had her first painting show in New York. many people loved the bright colors and beautiful farm in her works.
Grandma Moses died in 1961, at the age of 101. She painted over 1600 paintings in the late part of her life. “ Do your favorite things, and you will finally be successful,” she once said.
The moon was behind a cloud. And there weren't many stars in the sky. It was a dark night I saw a glow (光) in my neighbor's kitchen. I thought he was having a night meal. So I went back to my bed.
Soon there was a smell of burning (烧焦的味道) in the air and I thought there was probably something wrong. I jumped out of bed quickly and went out to make sure. I saw fire coming out of my neighbor's kitchen. Then I shouted, "Fire! Fire!" But no one in the neighborhood heard my shouts for help.
I ran into my house, called the firemen and went back to my neighbor's house. I knocked on the door hard and called out my neighbor's name, but there was no answer. Finally I got into the house and saved a cat and a dog.
I tried to pour water through the kitchen window but it didn't work. It was a big fire. Luckily, the firemen arrived over ten minutes later and stopped the fire.
When my neighbor came back, he was sad for his kitchen but he thanked me for calling the firemen and for saving his pets. He wanted to give me some money but I did not accept it.
Weeks later, my neighbor had a new kitchen. He invited me to see his new kitchen and we enjoyed a big meal there. It made me very happy. After that, he became my best friend.

In an ancient country there were two great carpenters (木匠), Andy and John.
One day, their king wanted to know who was better so he had a match for them two. During the three days, the one who carved (雕刻) the more lovely mouse would be the National First Carpenter.
The two carpenters worked hard day and night. Three days later, they showed the king their carved mice. The king asked all his soldiers to decide the winner.
Andy's mouse was so wonderful that it was just like a real one while John's was ugly without its shape and look. So the king and his soldiers all agreed Andy was the winner.
But John disagreed. He shouted, “That's unfair (不公平的). It should be decided by cats.”
The King thought it was right. Then he asked his soldiers to take several cats there to decide which mouse looked more like a real one. Everyone became surprised because the cats all jumped on John's mouse but no one cared Andy's mouse.
After that, the king had to say John was the final winner. Later, the king asked John, “How did you make the cats believe what you carved was a mouse?” John said, “In fact, it's simple. I carved a mouse only with the fish bone(鱼骨)! What the cats care about is not its shape, but its taste!”
Last weekend, I went to France(法国) for the first time. I had a trip in Sete, a small seaside town in the south of France. I went with a French friend and I stayed with her family. The sky was blue and the sun was shining.
When I was there, my friend took me to the cinema. I loved going to the cinema at home in England, but I had been in France for three months and I went to the cinema for the first time. I was worried because I was afraid that I couldn't understand(理解)the film. It was a very small cinema with just three small rooms. It looked nothing like the cinema in my hometown. We chose to watch a Disney movie because the story was easy to follow.
I was surprised to find that I understood almost everything. However, it was a little difficult to know every word of the songs, but I understood the feelings and the stories behind them, so it wasn't too bad. I recommend watching a film in a foreign(外国的)language because it shows you how well you learn the language. I have no reason to be nervous, and now I think I will watch more movies in the local cinema of the French town.

In Australia, it's quite usual for people to go camping during the Easter(复活节) Festival. People can have fun on the beach or in the water.
Last Easter holiday, some friends asked me to go camping with them. I was in such a hurry that I took the air bed my brother bought not very long ago without testing it. The first night at the camping place, I used my friend's pump(气泵) to blow up the air bed. It didn't take me long and the new bed looked excellent. After driving all the way and working hard to put up the tents, we were all very exhausted. As soon as I got my air bed ready, I went back into my tent and went to sleep. A few hours later, I started feeling the hard ground under my body and my bed didn't have any air in it.
"There must be something wrong," I thought to myself, However, everyone else was now fast asleep and I didn't want to wake anyone up at midnight. Then I took out
all the clothes and put all of them on the air bed to make it easier for me to fall back to sleep. Luckily. I brought lots of warm clothes and was able to get some sleep for the rest of the night.
The next day, my friend Peter gave me one spare(备用的) air bed. I had a good sleep the other two nights only some animals came close to my tent and made some noises(噪音).
At the age of 60, my dad was ill. After sleeping for two months in hospital, he finally woke up. His waking up thrilled all our family. But then we knew he didn't know any of us! Doctors said they didn't know how long it would last. My heart went down when I heard the terrible news.
I was his only child, so it was my duty to look after him. He forgot almost everything, but he did remember he liked sweets. I would give him one sweet if he didn't sit on the ground, a second for stopping painting on the wall, and another for not trying to put clothes on the dog.
Dad became the oldest child in town. He climbed up the tree to catch a bird and couldn't get down after it flew away. He broke my window with a ball and cleaned our telephone in water like washing clothes. When I told him he was doing wrong things, he would answer smilingly, "I like that!!"
My son then aged five, and two eight-year-old daughters, welcomed their big playmate. He would happily make them real cigarettes, share his sweets with them, and carry them high in the apple tree to pick apples.
It's eight years since the accident, Dad has accepted(接受)the fact that he is the grandpa of his three playmates but not a brother. He has also accepted that they grow taller but his height always stays the same. Though it is still tiring to take care of him, he really brings us a lot of fun. In some way, I think it is a happy thing to look after Dad like looking after a child. How many people can have the chance to care for a childlike parent?
Our life will be different from now with robots appearing in our home. So what will the future be like? Here are some students' ideas.
I expect to live in a more beautiful and cleaner city. The street will be cleaned by the robots once a day.
- Ben
There will be more kinds of food to choose from and the food will be more delicious. The robots can make the food for us.
- Karen
We do not have to spend much time on heavy work because robots will take most of our work, for example, washing the clothes. So we will have more vacations. We can take a vacation on the moon. We will not live on the earth but on the moon, or other planets.
- Mark
I expect that most families will have their own planes made by their robots. And travel will become more convenient. The plane is faster than any other transportation.
- Sue
I expect robots can make the clothes for us. The clothes could change their size and color by themselves.
