Emma Rosen had one of the best and most sought-after jobs in the civil service in the UK. 20,000 candidates (候选人) applied, but fewer than 1,000 were offered jobs. But it turned out that she didn't like sitting at a desk all day, and she struggled to see how what she was doing would make much difference to anything.
Instead of going to work every day and complaining about her job until she reached retirement age, Emma decided to find out what made her happy, what her skills were, and what sort of career would need them. She wrote a list of the jobs she had wanted to do since childhood and set about getting two-week placements (安排) in all of them over a year.
She was 24 years old, and she wanted to have tried out at least 25 different jobs before her 25th birthday. She spent the months before she quit her job saving up her year off, and. spent all her free time setting up the different jobs.
A year later, Emma said her favorites were the jobs that were more creative, relevant to travel or were outdoors. "Things like travel writing, archaeology, farming, working with the police, being a blogger, an explorer and an author," she said.
"Considering that I am now working as a writer and speaker, communication skills in both verbal (口头的) and written form have been the most important. There were also plenty of more technical skills that I learned, like website design, social media management, building a commercial brand and conducting interviews."
Emma added she also saw her softer people-focused skills improve. "I could be very adaptable, quickly build relationships and accept change—I could walk into a new team or situation and get on well with everyone. Finally, there were things like showing that I was active, an independent and creative thinker as well as an innovative problem solver—I could certainly show that I could think outside the box!"
Piñatex is made from pineapple leaves that are left over after the fruit is harvested. It is an innovative way of using a product that would otherwise be thrown away, which reduces the amount of organic waste going to landfill and thus the methane emissions (沼气排放) that would result. Tough and durable, it is commonly used as an eco-friendly material for vegan leather by fashion designers.
Piñatex was developed by Dr. Carmen Hijosa, a Spanish leather goods expert who grew horrified at the environmental impact of leather production while working in the Philippines in the 1990s. Nor did she approve of the petroleum-based alternatives that are commonly used. At the same time, Hijosa noticed how some traditional Filipino garments (服装)were made from pineapple fibers, which kickstarted her research into how such a resource could be transformed into something more widely usable.
The fabric is made by extracting (提取) fibers from the pineapple leaves after harvest. They are washed and dried in the sun, then undergo a purification process that results in a soft fiber. This is mixed with corn-based polylactic acid (PLA) and turned into a non-woven product called "Piñafelt", which is the base for Piñatex products.
Around 480 leaves from 16 pineapple plants go into the creation of a single square meter of Piñatex, which weighs and costs less than a comparable amount of leather. Because the fabric is natural, it is breathable, as well as flexible; it can easily be printed on and sewed. It's produced in a roll, which means less waste than when an irregularly-shaped animal hide is used. But best of all, it can replace animal leather.
Piñatex is a multi-use material that is suitable for footwear, bags, clothing, pet leashes, and more. It has already been adopted by 1,000 shoe companies, fashion labels, and hotel chains around the world, including Hugo Boss, H&M, and the Hilton Hotel Bankside. The number of partnerships is likely to grow as more designers and consumers discover its benefits.

Determine the time of day that you're most productive. Perhaps you write faster and more efficiently in the morning. . Try writing in both settings and determine which time feels better for you. Then, try to get as much writing done as you can during the times of day when you're most productive.
Write an outline for your assignment. Read the prompt or assignment so you know what you have to write. Perform research and plot out the main points in your essay, paper, or story in an outline form. . Then write 2-3 sentences, or subpoints, within those main points.

I will never forget the year I was about twelve years old. My mother told us that we would not be 1Christmas gifts because there was not enough money. I felt sad and thought, "What would I say when the other kids asked what I'd got?" Just when I started to2 that there would not be a Christmas that year, three women 3at our house with gifts for all of us. For me they brought a doll. I felt such a sense of4that I would no longer have to be embarrassed when I returned to school. I wasn't5. Somebody had thought6of me to bring me a gift.
Years later, when I stood in the kitchen of my new house, thinking how I wanted to make my 7 Christmas there special and memorable, I8 remembered the women's visit. I decided that I wanted to create that same feeling of9 for as many children as I could possibly reach.
So I10a plan and gathered forty people from my company to help. We gathered about 125 orphans (孤儿) at the Christmas party. For every child, we wrapped colorful packages filled with toys, clothes, and school supplies, each with a child's name. We wanted all of them to know they were 11. Before I called out their names and handed them their gifts, I12 them that they couldn't open their presents until every child had come forward. Finally the13they had been waiting for came as I called out, "One, two, three. Open your presents!" As the children opened their packages, their faces beamed(笑容满面) and their bright smiles14up the room. The15in the room was obvious, and it wasn't just about toys. It was a feeling—the feeling I knew from that Christmas so long ago when the women came to visit. I wasn't forgotten. Somebody thought of me. I matter.

Notice Dear students, …… The Students' Union |
I was turning ten in the summer of 1995. On a warm evening while at dinner table, my mom announced we were taking a trip to Niagara Falls when summer vacation started so that we could celebrate my birthday there.
It all sounded incredibly good until mom said we would be driving to Canada. As was often the case, my dad would do all the driving when my mom managed the directions. But dad often took wrong turns along the way and mom would not stop complaining.
It wasn't all that I didn't like the car rides. I looked over at my 6-year-old sister, Marlene. She giggled at me and rolled her eyes. Driving in the car meant I'd share the back seat with my sister, who would never stop making noise unless she was asleep.
"Hey, can we take a plane there instead?" I asked between mouthfuls of hamburger and French fries. Sometimes, when dad had a day off from work, we would drive out to Idlewild Airport to watch the planes take off and land. I always hoped that one day I could get to sit in my own seat on one of those planes. It would be so cool to get high up the beautiful sky.
"Sorry honey, maybe next time." my mother replied as she and my father exchanged glances. I turned to my sister, hoping she would say she wanted to get on a plane too, but she simply stuck her tongue out at me and giggled again.
Don't they get it? I was in desperate need of a plane ride, and I needed something cool to talk about with my friends when we got home. "Sitting in the back seat of the car sucks." I blurted (脱口而出) out.
"Jay!" My mom shouted. "Watch your mouth!"
"OK, sorry, but I really want to go by plane."
"This conversation is over." My dad growled. "Finish your eating and go to your room."
