There was a merchant(商人) named Shylock in Venice. He got rich by1money to other people and making them pay interest(利息). For him, it's right and2. He thought any merchant would do that.3Antonio, another young merchant, didn't- whoever borrowed money4him, no interest paid. He said rich people should help the poor and even blamed(责备) Shylock's acts. Shylock was very5about this because more and more people went to Antonio. This meant that Shylock earned less6.
One day, Shylock heard that Antonio was in town. So he went to visit Antonio. In the garden, where7often talked about business, he8Antonio. Shylock went up. He remembered how much he9the young merchant, but he tried to be friendly." Dear Antonio, I hear the10—you have some trouble with much money. I can help you.11me! I've pardoned for all the12things you said about me."
He continued, "Come with me to the judge(法官) to write a contract(契约).I will lend you 3,000 dollars for three months. You needn't pay interest13you can pay back on time. But if you can't, you will give me one pound of your flesh(肉) from wherever I choose to take it."

Global Study of Teens
Recently, Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) studied 600,000 15-year-olds around the world. Let's look at the result.
—________.
Here comes Junior 3 Year! This means that the high school entrance exam will arrive in less than a year. How will you get through the final year of middle school and get ready for the big exam? TEENS invited two students to share their thoughts.
Zeng Qingmian, 15, JiangxiI got a score of 700 out of 750 on the big exam. Junior 3 was quite stressful and it was even harder for a boarding school(寄宿学校)student like me. I needed to make detailed plans—not only for studying, but also daily chores like washing my clothes.
I was highly focused during class and tried to remember everything my teachers said to me, this is far more effective than spending time doing exercises after class. During self-study time at night, I took every chance to ask teachers questions. I also counted time while doing quizzes. This helped improve my learning efficiency(效率).
I didn't have many review materials. My method was to make up my own questions. After solving a math problem, for example, I would design my own problems that used the same concepts (概念).
Huang Ziyi, 15, BeijingI got a score of 520 out of 580 on the high school entrance exam. For me, knowing my strengths and keeping a stable mind are very necessary. The competition in Beijing is hard. Many students have tutors(导师). I once took a coding class, but found that I wasn't good at it. So I gave up and focused more on what I'm good at.
I have applied this principle (原则)to my studies. I go over the key points of each unit to strengthen my skills in subjects like physics and math. When taking a test, I usually skip( 跳过 )questions I don't know and try to solve them at the end if there is still some time left. One should learn to stay calm in situations like these. Don't worry too much about the result of one test as long as you are learning and improving.
Argentina in the late nineteenth century was an exciting place. Around 1870, it was experiencing an economic boom( 经济繁荣),and the capital Buenos Aires, attracted many people. Farmers, as well as many foreigners from Spain and Italy, came to Buenos Aires looking for jobs. These jobs didn't pay well, and the people felt lonely with their new life in the city. As the unhappy newcomers mixed together in the poor parts of the city, the dance known as the tango came into being.
At the beginning, the tango was a dance of the lower classes( 阶级).It was danced in the bars and streets. At that time women were fewer than men, so if a man didn't want to be left out, his only choice was to dance with another man so that he could attract the attention of the women. Gradually, the dance spread into the upper classes of Argentinean society and became more respectable.
In Europe at this time, strong interest in dance from around the world was beginning. The interest in international dance was especially strong in Paris. Every kind of dance from ballet to belly dancing could be found in Paris theaters. After tango dancers from Argentina arrived in Europe, they began to draw the interest of the public as they performed their exciting dance in cafes. Though not everyone liked the new dance, tango really attracted enough supporters to make it popular.
The popularity of the tango continued to grow in many other parts of the world. Soldiers who returned to the United States from World War I brought the tango to North America. It reached Japan in 1926, and in 2003 a tango dancer of South Korea was hired to act as a kind of dance ambassador(大使)and pushed for tango dancing throughout South Korea
Chang'e 5 completed its task successfully in 23 days, not only did it return with valuable rock and soil samples from the moon, but also brought back a group of seeds that traveled the furthest in China, including rice, oats etc., were placed inside the Chang'e 5 spacecraft and went around the moon for about 15 days.
Scientists wished to check what would happen to the seeds after the task. This task offered good opportunities to scientists, which helped them to deepen their studies on the effect of cosmic rays(宇宙射线)on the growth and development of life on Earth.
Space-based mutation breeding (太空诱变育种) refers to the process of placing seeds in the environment such as micro gravity (微重力), vacuums (真空) and cosmic radiation (宇宙辐射) during a spaceflight and then sending them back to Earth for further study and planting. Scientists study and examine several generations of plants grown from seeds which went into the space and study their changes-some are desirable while others are bad and negative. Those with good changes will be kept for further research, and will be introduced to farmers after getting permission.
Space breeding(育种)can make the seeds change faster than the experiments on the earth and can bring about some wonderful results. Compared with the traditional methods, space-developed methods can make the seeds grow much better, such as having shorter growth periods and having more power to fight against diseases and insect.
China did its first space breeding experiment in 1987, using a satellite to carry seeds into space. Since then, hundreds of kinds of seeds and seedlings have traveled with dozens of Chinese spaceships. Space breeding has helped to produce more than 200 new types of mutated plants in China that have been allowed to be planted across the country from grains to vegetables and fruits.
The Chang'e 5 brought back 1,731 grams of moon's rock and soil to Earth, showing a historic achievement 44 years after the last moon's rock and soil were taken back.

One day, a baby snail found that he had to carry a shell at any time. He was confused, so he went up to his mother and asked, "Why was I born with a shell that grew so hard and heavy?" His mother said, "Because we don't have bones to hold us up. We can only move slowly, so we need a shell to protect us."
The baby snail asked again, ""The caterpillar has no bones, either, and she can't move quickly. Why can she live without a shell?" The mother snail answered, "That's because a caterpillar will become a butterfly. She can fly high into the sky. Then the sky can protect her."
The baby snail had one more question, "But the earthworm moves like us. He has no bones and he won't turn into butterfly. Why doesn't he carry a hard and heavy shell?" His mother said, "He can dig a hole and hide in the ground, and then the earth can protect him."
The baby snail then cried, "We are so poor! We have no protection from the sky or from the ground!?" His mother smiled at him, "That's why we have a shell. My dear, imagine that if we don't have the shells, what will happen to us? Hot sun will dry out our bodies and we'll have nowhere to sleep. What's worse, we'll die in the heavy rain. How terrible it is! We don't depend on the sky or the ground for protection. We should depend on ourselves."
The Nautilus bumped against the ice. We were trapped in the ice. We worked hard. By the next morning, the h was deeper but now the sides of the tunnel were narrowing(变窄). We worked h. The hole grew deeper, but the air in the Nautilus. was very bad. Then, the captain had a new idea. He heated water in his batteries and pumped it into the hole. This s the space from narrowing, and the men worked as quickly as they could to dig the hole deeper.
It was a t night. We had so little air that everybody had a headache and could hardly breathe.
Then, the captain drove the Nautilus into the hole. The ice cracked(破裂),and suddenly, the Nautilus was
f. It sped quickly northwards under the ice. We still had no air. My face was purple, and my lips were blue. I could not breathe. I could n see nor hear. I was going to die! Ned and Conseil found some air in one of the diving tanks. They gave it to me.Then, I felt the Nautilus bump into the ice aour heads. Again and again it hit the ice.
Finally, it b through. Air rushed into the submarine(潜水艇), and we could breathe again. Ned, Conseil, and I rushed onto the board. We breathed and breathed, and I thanked my friends for s me with the a in the tank.
The Nautilus continued sailing north for a few days.
