Today's kids like staying indoors and watching TV, playing computer games, and doing their homework better than going outside to play. Playing outdoors is so important to kids—not only to help them stay healthy but also to help them to make friends. Here are some ideas for kids that they can follow.
Take a Walk or Play a Game
You can take a walk around the block(街区) or go hiking in the forest. Playing a game can make kids active. It can help kids like the outdoor activities.
Ride a Bike
Kids' feet can take them further when they're riding bikes. Besides being an easy way of transportation, bicycling makes for a fun whole-family outdoor activity. Exploring(探索) quiet streets in the neighborhood can make kids happy.
Fly a Kite
When you fly a kite, you often end up running like the wind—which makes this an excellent outdoor activity for kids. Simple kites are inexpensive to buy and easy to operate(操作). Still intimidated? Walk to an outdoor field on a windy day and watch other people's kites fly in the air.

Tom, Jean, Jack and Lucy are talking about the movie theaters in the city.
My name's Tom. I go to the Movie Palace twice a month. It's about two kilometers from my home. The service is good. But the price of a ticket is a little expensive. I never go to Moon Cinema. It's about 10 kilometers from my home. |
I'm Jean. I go to Moon Cinema more often. There are often new movies on show and the screens are big. Most importantly, the price is cheaper. It's always half price for students, about 30 yuan. I go there once a week. |
I'm Jack. I live about 5 kilometers from Moon Cinema and 8 kilometers from Movie Palace. I think the seats in Moon Cinema are hard and the music is too loud. So I prefer to go to Movie Palace. I go to Movie Palace once a month. |
I'm Lucy. I prefer to go to Movie Palace. It's in the center of the city and is very modern. I like shopping and there are some shopping centers around. I go there once a month. |
Jane got some terrible illness when she was four. After years of treatment (治疗), she finally became healthy.
Two years ago, while Jane was watching the Olympics, a dream came into her sweet little head — to be a swimmer.
She practiced hard and finally joined the local swimming team. The team practice, however, was a difficult start. She coughed for her first few weeks. Hearing her coughing heavily one night, I decided to pull her from it all. But Jane woke me up early the next morning, wearing her swimsuit ready to go! I told her she shouldn't swim after a whole night's coughing, but she just refused to rest at home.
From that day on, Jane kept swimming and didn't miss any practice. She wanted to be the best swimmer someday.
My girl was growing and changing right before my eyes into this strong-minded person. There are moments when she felt upset of course — often she would be the last swimmer in the race. It was difficult for Jane to accept that she wasn't a winner ever. But that didn't stop her from trying.
Then came the final awards ceremony (颁奖仪式) at the end of the year. Jane didn't expect any award but was still there for her friends. As the ceremony was nearing the end, I suddenly heard the head coach (教练) saying loudly, "The highest honor (荣誉) goes to Jane!"
It was the greatest moment of my daughter's life. With all she had been through in her ten years, this was the hour of true success.
He and his wife(妻子) Victoria have three sons. Harper is their younger child and the only daughter.
Harper celebrated her 9th birthday in 2020.To have a wonderful party, the whole family got ready for it carefully. All of them had a wonderful day at their home in the Cotswolds, England. They wore special T-shirts with words "Happy Birthday, Harper!"
After stopping his football life, Beckham became interested in many things. He worked as an actor. He learned to keep bees(蜜蜂).At Harper's birthday party, he showed a new skill to us.
The superstar shared a video(视频)of himself and Harper on Sina Weibo. In the video, both of them dressed in red clothes. The girl was practicing writing Chinese calligraphy (书法) with the help of her father. Harper was slowly writing the Chinese word "qi". It means "seven" in English and it's also her middle name. Relaxing in their Cotswolds home, they looked happy with their work and showed it in front of the camera (相机).
Students in Class Five were excited about the talent show. Three students in the class wanted to perform. Meghan would show everyone her new dance. Abby wanted to play the piano and Tim would tell jokes.
The day of the talent show arrived. The math teacher Miss Turnbow surprised everyone by doing magic tricks (魔术).No one knew she was such a good magician. Miss Turnbow took a ring out of someone's ear. She turned a T-shirt into a beautiful flower and she took a live bird out of a hat.
The next person to perform was Meghan. Meghan showed everyone her talent by dancing a waltz (华尔兹).She didn't do well, but the students liked it.
Abby played Here Comes Santa Claus on the piano. The students thought playing a Christmas song in the middle of May was strange (奇怪的),but Abby played the piano very well.
It was Tim's turn. Tim tried telling jokes, but no one laughed. He tried and tried, but his jokes weren't funny. When he started to leave, he tripped (绊倒) over a chair. Everyone laughed so hard that Tim pretended to fall (假装跌倒) again.
