Look at the picture! Why is the woman1with a pan (平底锅)? She is in a2race (比赛) in the UK.
In the race, people have to3white aprons (围裙) and cover their heads with a white hat or a scarf. First, a bell (铃) rings twice for people to start4their pancakes. Then the bell rings again for them to gather (集合), with their cooked pancakes in a5. There they wait for the6to ring again, and the race starts. People run and at the same time, they throw pancakes into the7. They need to catch them with the pans and keep running.
Sometimes one of the pancakes drops on the ground, but the8can pick it up and then keep on running.
The race usually starts in February or March every year. People do this to remember a9story. In 1445, a woman was cooking and was late for a gathering (集会).10she held a pan with a pancake inside, and ran all the way there. In 1950, the USA also held a pancake race on the same day and at the same time. I wonder who runs better, the British or the Americans?
There was once a farmer. He had a very big rabbit and a smart dog. One day, he organized a(n)1between his dog and his rabbit. He made a hole in one of his biggest fields, and2a carrot and a bone (骨头) together in it. He wanted to see which animal would find them first.
The rabbit was very3and he was busy looking for the carrot and the bone. He was quite sure that he would find them.4the dog wasn't happy at all. After he looked for the carrot and the bone for a short time, he5on the ground sadly. And then he began to complain (抱怨). He thought it was6for him to find them in a big field.
The7dug for hours. But the dog complained again and again. The rabbit, on the other hand, kept on working hard. Finally, the rabbit even dug a tunnel (隧道). The end of the tunel was under where the dog was sitting all that time. There the rabbit found the8.
And this is how the dog lost the competition.9, he found the right place at the beginning. But he failed to find the carrot and the bone because he10complained and didn't try at all. When we do something difficult in our life, we should learn from the rabbit.

B: Drinks? Oh, no!

B: Sorry. But I brought some zongzi.
A:

A:

Every week we find three special places around the world. This week we're looking at three restaurants.
Ithaa
You can watch the fish and listen to the sea in this restaurant. It's in the Maldives and it's 5 metres below (在……下面) the sea. It only sits 14 people at a time. The food is expensive, but the view (风景) is wonderful.
The Treehouse Restaurant
Do you like being outside? Do you like looking at the trees? This restaurant is 10 metres above(在……之上) the ground in a treehouse in a forest in New Zealand. You can have lunch or dinner, look at the trees and listen to the birds. Bring warm clothes because it's cold here in the evening.
Dinner in the Sky
The home of this restaurant is Belgium, but it can be in the UK, the US or in your country. It travels around the world and last month it arrived in Perth, Australia. Do you want a view of a city or of the sea? You can choose Dinner in the Sky. There is one large table with 22 chairs and it is 50 metres above the ground! Don't look down!
What do we do when we go camping? First, we work out a plan. We take food, clothing, a knife and things for cooking and eating. We take things to keep us away from insects(昆虫) and the sunlight.
Then we put everything into the car and drive to the woods(树林). We look for a place for campers (露营者) and look for a good place for our tent. The place should have a lot of moving air. This will keep some insects away. High land with water on both sides of it is good. Then we put up our tent. We put everything into the tent, and we are ready for fun. We can do many things. We can swim in the lake, walk in the woods, climb a mountain, row a boat or go fishing.
In the evening, we come back to the tent. We build a big fire because it can keep the insects away. We sit around the fire and talk. We may tell interesting stories or we may sing songs. At night we lie down on the grass. We can look up at the stars. It is a busy day, so we try to go to sleep early. Everything is dark. Everything is quiet. We hope we won't hear music from the radio in the next tent. We hope it won't rain.
Once, there lived a hen (母鸡). She had five kids. She also had three friends: a duck, a cat and a dog. They all lived happily together. One day, the hen found a wheat seed (小麦种子). "Hey, who wants to help me plant this seed?" she asked.
"Not me." the duck said. "Nor can I." the cat said. "I'm afraid not." the dog said.
"All right. I will do it by myself." the hen said. She planted the seed and watered it. Wow! It grew quickly and yielded lots of wheat. "Hi! Who wants to help me harvest the wheat?" the hen asked.
"Not me." the duck said. "Nor can I." the cat said. "I'm afraid not."the dog said.
"Fine. I will do it by myself." the hen said. She worked all day long. By evening, she had two big bags full of wheat.
"Hello friends! Who wants to help me grind (磨碎) this wheat?" she asked. Once again, all three of her friends refused.
"I see that I will have to grind this by myself. I will make flour (面粉) and bake bread!" she said. The next day she baked delicious bread.
"Hello! Who would like to eat some bread with me?" she asked.
"I want to!" the duck said. "Me too!" the cat said. "I'd like some as well." the dog said.
"None of you can have a bite! I worked hard in the field and you were at home. " the hen replied.
Being outgoing is good for your life. Those who are more outgoing like to meet lots of people and have more fun in life. In fact, being outgoing is not so hard as you think. Even shy people can be outgoing.
You can start becoming outgoing with your best friend. But the difficulty comes when you meet strangers or new friends. Smile more, and usually they will return your smile. In this way, you may have more talks. Start a talk, and just a simple "Hello!" or "How is it going?" is a good start. If you want to make interesting talks, you should read news in newspapers and prepare your views(看法), or surf the Internet for new information and then keep them in mind.
The easiest way to become more outgoing is to go out. This is also the most important step. Go to a park, beach, club, party or any other place that you think can be fun.
Once there was a little elephant. On the third day after he was born, the little elephant took a walk with his mother on the banks (河岸) of a river, and there he saw a bird in the sky flying here and there. The little elephant said, "If I could fly, I would see even more things. It would be great!"
In order to learn to fly, the little elephant climbed up a tree and with a yelp(尖叫)of "Ai Yo!", he fell heavily to the ground. Seeing this, a snake said, "Little elephant, we all have our own abilities. I can't fly, but I can sleep ina tree. "A lion said, "I can't fly, either, but I can jump across a wide river." A tiger said," I can't fly, but I can swim!" The little elephant's father and mother said to him, "We elephants have great strength, and it's greater than that of little birds." The little elephant understood. He used his long nose as a hook (钩子) and a large branch was taken away.
Sometimes we are like the little elephant. Maybe we can't do everything well, but we can do well something by using what we have. So don't envy(羡慕) others, and learn to find your own advantages.
