Fred went into a photo studio. "I would like a photo, please," he said. "How much is it?"
"25 dollars for the first one," the man said. "Then 2 dollars for others. "
"OK," Fred said. "Can you take my photo now?"
"Yes, come this way, please. "
The man took Fred into a room and asked him to sit down. Then he turned on some bright lights and took his photo. "Come here and get your photo tomorrow," the man said.
The next day, Fred went to get his photo. "Your photo is OK," the man said.
Fred looked at his photo. He was not happy. "This photo makes me look very old. " he told the man.
The man smiled, "With this photo, you don't need to ask someone to take your photo again many years later. "
"Pressure"(压力)means that people are expecting a lot of you. It also means that you sometimes have to do a lot of things in a short period of time. Pressure seems to be a part of modern life; everyone feels it. People feel pressure at work, students feel pressure at school and everyone sometimes feels the pressure of trying to please their friends and family.
Surprising as it may sound, though, pressure can be a good thing. When you are under pressure it helps you to focus and think hard about the problems that have to be solved. It forces you to plan your time, to decide which problems are more important and which are less important. And, in the end, when you face these problems you will become a better, stronger person.
Of course, pressure isn't always beneficial. Too much pressure causes stress and it can affect your health. It affects your heart, your blood circulation and your nervous system. When this happens, it's time to get help from a doctor. If you are feeling this way, make sure you tell someone. The worst way to handle "negative"(消极的)pressure is to keep silent; it will only make things worse. Your attitude has a lot to do with how you deal with pressure. When faced with a problem, try to look at it as a challenge than trouble.
Life is filled with problems and pressures-they are never going away, so we have to face them. In the end it makes us better people and we can shine like diamonds.
Technology in sports is a beautiful thing, but sometimes even the greatest inventions can go wrong. This happened in a soccer game in Scotland, when an AI-controlled camera got confused (困惑的),and thought a lineman's bald head was the ball. It has got everyone talking online how technology once again affected the match in the wrong way.
When the COVID-19 stopped fans attending the match between Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Ayr United at the Caledonian Stadium, the Inverness club decided to live stream (现场直播)its games, using an AI-controlled camera to make sure people always get the best view. But things didn't go as planned. The camera couldn't tell the difference between the ball and the bald head, continually focusing on a man standing around not doing much, rather than letting fans see the action.
To make matters worse, Scotland is under strict social distancing measures. With no fans in attendance this was the only way for fans to watch the match, and instead they were treated to 90 minutes of head watching.
Although the match ended a 1:1 draw, more than the team's effort, it was the gaffe(过失)that stole all the attention online. As many started to tag the camera company to complain and demand answers, a spokesperson in a tweet said, "We are aware of the issue and we are already working on improving this for the next game. We hope that this will not happen again and that your viewing experience will be better. Thank you. "
Each summer, there are some fitness events (健身项目) and road races to take part in. Many people are interested in fitness events, but they are worried that they cannot do well in them. However, with good preparation you can finish a race. Here is some advice that can help you to prepare for a race successfully.
The race you pick should be far enough in the future to provide you with enough time to do training.
Talk with the doctor to make sure that you are truly safe to take part in the fitness activity. If not, you'd better give it up.
Make sure you have the right equipment to finish a road race and to reduce (降低) the risk of hurting yourself. Most importantly, choose comfortable sports shoes and clothing. Also, it may be helpful to use your smart phone or to buy a low-cost pedometer (计步器).
Drink lots of water and eat all kinds of healthy foods to make yourself stay healthy. It's important all your life.
Your running or walking plan will depend on the type (类型) of race you choose. There are many apps and fitness plans online to help you make plans. Just choose one of them to help you.
A. You should eat healthily.
B. You can ask the doctor.
C. You should make a training plan.
D. You should choose a race.
E. You should have a good rest before races.
F. You should get proper equipment(合适的装备)
Long long ago, there was a king. He loved animals very much. One day he got 1nice falcons(猎鹰)from his son. He had never seen such2falcons before. He loved them so much and he ordered the best falconer(猎鹰者)to 3them to fly.
After several months, the king came to see 4the training was going on. He found that one falcon had already been able to fly high in the sky, while the other was 5on the branch(树枝)of a tree quietly.
The king called all his falconers together and ordered them to 6every way they could to make the other falcon fly. But none of them7. One day, while the king was taking a walk in the forest, an idea cameto his8. Maybe someone who knew the natural environment well could9this problem. Then heinvited a10who lived in the forest into his palace to train it at once.
The next morning, the king saw the other falcon flying in the sky freely. He felt very surprised.
"It is unbelievable!" shouted the king. "How could you11it happen?"
The farmer replied, "It is very12. I just cut off the branch where the falcon rested. It had no place torest. Then it had to13. "
It is always the same to human beings. We all have "two flying wings" in our hearts as well. But it seems thatwe don't notice them and stay in a place where we just feel14and comfortable. We won't realize we can flyso high and freely until the branches we are resting on15. Do you think so?
I then decided to start volunteering in a hospital. The volunteers were making a team and chatting, and I thought I'd like (help) patients in that way, too. In the chapel(小礼拜堂), I take it in turns to prayers(祷告) for patients, we each have a room where we go and talk to patients. In hospital, I usually make the tea and speak to patients, especially if I see patients who are sitting there on (they) own or don't have visitors. I go to the chapel every Wednesday afternoon and go to work in the hospital the second Monday in a month.
There are so many good things about volunteering I get as much as patients do. I feel(use) now. And it's terrific to think I am making a (different) to somebody. Some people are looking forward to(see) you the next week. The volunteering is the (good) thing I have ever done. I hope everybody can join in.
As a student, my school life is boring. Every day I have to do the same things, such as having lessons, taking exams and doing exercises. But my hobby is playing basketball and I always play basketball whenever I'm free. I always forget to finish my homework and I am not doing as well as others. My parents are angry with me and I am worried about my study. What can I do? Should I stop playing basketball?
请你给Allan写个回帖,分析他的情况,谈谈你的看法,并结合自己的学习生活为他提出几条合理的建议。要求:
