    However, he did not like to admit this to his wife. He thought she would 5 if she knew he was wasting his time. 6, on the way home from the river he always visited the local fish shop and bought7. Then he told his wife he had caught it and they had a good fish for their dinner.

    One evening, after yet another day's 8 fishing, Tom stopped at the fish shop as usual on his way home. "I'll have three perches(鲈鱼), please, " he said to the shopkeeper. "And throw them to me, as usual, so I can tell my wife I caught them. "

    The shopkeeper laughed and said, "I suggest you take a nice salmon(鲑鱼)9 . "

    "Gaming disorder" means the lasting or repeating video-gaming behavior, whether online or offline. It has three main characteristics(特征). The first sign is when the player loses control over his or her gaming habits. The second is when playing games becomes more important than other activities for the player. The third is when the condition leads to serious problems in the player's personal and family life,

    Some countries are already working to solve this problem. South Korea made a law preventing children under 16 from playing online games between midnight and 6 a. m. And children under 12 have to be watched by their parents while using the Internet.

    The red beans grow in southern land;

    How many loads(枝条)in spring the trees?

    Collect them till full is your hand;

    They would recall sweet memories.

    ( Translated by Xu Yuanchong and simplified by the editor)

    Love is a popular theme in Chinese poems. What symbols do you think best stand for love? The heart, rose or chocolate? This time we are going to look at a classic Chinese poem, Love Seeds. It was written by Tang Dynasty poet Wang Wei who had a different understanding of the symbol of love.

    In the first two lines, the poet expresses his feelings of missing his friend, who lives in southern China, by describing the growth of red beans in spring. In classic Chinese poems, poets prefer to express feelings in an indirect or symbolic way. When describing the natural environment or showing some symbols, Chinese poets always mean more than what's described on the surface.

    In Chinese culture, red beans are seen as "love seeds", which have a strong cultural meaning. Because they are often hard, come in a heart shape, and can be stored for a long time, those beans have long been used as a symbol of love and loyalty(忠诚)between lovers.

    In the last two lines, the poet wishes his faraway friend to collect as many red beans as possible, as the beans will bring back his friend's memories to the poet.

    Instead of showing love to others by directly saying "I miss you" or using flowery language, this short poem can make readers feel deep love.

    1. (1) What's the Chinese title of the poem Love Seeds?
      A . 《相思》 B . 《梅花》 C . 《赋别》 D . 《春晓》
    2. (2) In classic Chinese poems, poets express feelings in ______ ways.

    3. (3) How many features(特点)of the red beans are mentioned by the writer?

    4. (4) Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
      A . Wang Wei is a great poet from Song Dynasty. B . Wang Wei lived in southern China when writing this poem. C . Wang Wei thinks red beans are seen as "love seeds" because of their color. D . Wang Wei thinks red beans will bring back his friend's memories to him.
    5. (5) What does Wang Wei want to show in this poem?

    Do you believe plants can talk with each other? Modern research has found something amazing.

    When a plant gets attacked by insects, the plant gives out chemicals from the leaves that are being eaten. When another plant gets the chemicals, it starts to give out its own different chemicals. Some of these chemicals drive insects away. Others attract the wasps(黄蜂)! The wasps kill the insects that are eating the plants.

    People can't hear these sounds; but plants are making them. Some plants make noises with their roots. Some trees make clicking noises when there is not enough water.

    Most surprisingly of all, plants have an amazing system of communication that can link nearly every plant in a forest. The wood wide web is linked underground by fungi(真菌). It links the roots of different plants to each other. It is in some ways similar to the Internet we use. Using the wood wide web, plants can share information and even food with each other.

    All in all, the discovery is a great thing.

    A. Almost everyone likes plants.

    B. Plants do communicate with each other.

    C. Scientists call this system the "wood wide web".

    D. Plants use chemicals to communicate with each other.
