My dad works for an aid organization (组织). He and his workmates give 1 aid to the hungry people in the poor areas. Last weekend, I went with 2 to one of his daily work. I was there simply to hand people a notice The job was 3 and I wasn't having fun.
Then I saw a girl doing the same work as I did, but she was 4 all the time. She walked up to people and asked them 5 they needed, instead of waiting for people to find her. Just then, a toothless man came 6, head down and shoulders bowed. His clothes were old, dirty and broken. I saw the girl talking 7 to the man, "Morning, sir! Is there something I can help you with?" SIR? SIR! She spoke to the old man as if he was 8. Was I hearing her correctly? Why would she treat a poor man from the street 9 a captain (上校) in the army?
She showed love. She 10 the old man and wanted him to feel loved. And she showed respect. When she called him "Sir", he 11 his head and I saw the shocked expression on his face.
After seeing what she did, I knew I could do my job 12. A little boy walked over to me and I smiled at him 13 I knew what he needed and wanted. It gave me 14 that can only be felt when you do something right.
Taking time to show care and love has made a 15 in my character. Holding the key, I open every room to let the sunshine flow in.
Do you like watching cartoons? What's your favourite cartoon? For this Children's Day we asked a few people what they liked watching when they were growing up.
Black Cat Detective
Black Cat Detective was my favourite while I was at primary school. Although it only has five episodes (集), it was very popular at that time. The Black Cat always tries his best to find out the truth and help little animals solve problems: He taught me so much about right and wrong.
-Xiaotao, a 28-year-old policeman
Journey to the West
I loved watching Journey to the West when growing up, because the stories are really interesting. In my eyes, Monkey King is a true fighter. He protects his master, Tangseng, and is not afraid of any difficulty or danger. He fights against bad people and sweeps away evils (妖怪).
-Weiwei, a 13-year-old girl
Calabash Brother
This cartoon series have brought back some of my best childhood memories. The story is about ripe gourds (葫芦) turning into seven brothers. Each brother is born with special power. The orange brother, for example, can see very far and hear clearly. This show made me dream about achieving (实现) the impossible.
-Chang Anluan, an 18-year-old student
Tom and Jerry
Tom and Jerry played a big part in my childhood. My father got the whole series of Tom and Jerry on DVD when I was seven. He usually played it during dinner time, and my family couldn't stop laughing when we saw the silly Tom. Those were good times that I would never forget!
-Xin, a 20-year-old college student
Lauren Singer, who studied environmental science at NYU, has hardly made waste in the past two years, showing that a "zero-waste" lifestyle is possible.
Lauren started the "zero-waste" lifestyle by taking away packaged (包装好的) products (产品) from her life. She says that the past two years hasn't been easy. "I stopped buying packaged products and began bringing my own bags to fill with products at the supermarket," she explained. "I stopped buying new clothes and shopped for only secondhand things. I said no to things like straws (吸管) in my drinks, or paper bags at stores. "
Next, she moved onto personal care products. Instead of buying them, she began making them. She also set up her own company (公司), "The Simply Co", through which she sells her homemade products.
Even though the journey has been hard, Lauren's zero-waste life has been meaningful. Lauren says that she now saves a lot of money because she is prepared when she goes shopping and does not buy things blindly. She also eats healthy food because she buys fresh fruits and vegetables instead of packaged foods. She is happy about her present life.
The 23-year-old girl has become an encouragement to many. She's giving talks in schools and colleges and also talking more and more about her zero-waste lifestyle on TV and the radio worldwide.

This is a letter from Anthony Morris, a professor at Robert Morris University. He shares his thoughts on the three talkonauts (astronauts) of the Shenzhou-13 spaceship who completed their space travel started from October 16, 2021.
It was Friday in my country. I watched the red-and-white balloon (气球) slowly return to the Earth from half a world away. It was a beautiful Saturday morning in Asia, and the perfect weather allowed the world to enjoy what was happening. The balloon was carrying three taikonauts home after their successful six-month stay in space.
As Zhai Zhigang, Ye Guangfu and Wang Yaping safely landed in China's Inner Mongolia on April 16, 2022. I thought of what we Americans must have felt on July 21, 1969 when Neil Armstrong and his coworkers touched down on Moon.
Now, the taikonauts will be written about often and excitedly in the future. The U. S. and Russia have played roles in space discovery for years, and now China has become an important player and made ongoing efforts.
Perhaps the most meaningful mission (任务) took place on November 7, 2021. Wang Yaping became the first woman taikonaut to take a spacewalk, which lasted over six hours. After successfully returning to Earth, Wang Yaping handed a star to her daughter. It likely passes a message to Chinese boys and girls: You, too can reach for the stars, and it's possible you will reach them. And because of her bravery, more women taikonauts would join the similar activities in the future.
Surely, Zhai, Ye and Wang are heroes, because they had spent the longest time in space. And there are even more Chinese heroes to come. In China, you are heroes. And for me, I also think of you as heroes.
"This is the most unusual for a young Trumpeter (小号手). It is serious. Try again, Louis! Perhaps you're not doing your best. "said his father.
Louis tried again but no sound came from his throat. He shook his head, sadly.
"Watch me!" said the father. He raised his neck and cried ko-hoh so loudly that everyone for miles around heard it.
"Let me hear you go beep!" he ordered, "Say beep loudly!" Louis tried. No sound came.
"Well," said the father, "I guess it's no use. I guess you are dumb. "
When he heard the word "dumb", Louis felt like crying. The father saw that he had hurt Louis's feelings. "You misunderstand me, my son," he said in a comforting voice, "______▲______". If I called you a dumb bunny, that meant I had a poor opinion of your intelligence (智力). In fact, you are perhaps the brightest, smartest, most intelligent of all my babies. Words sometimes have two meanings. The word 'dumb' which I said means a person can't say anything. Do you understand?"
Louis nodded his head. He felt a little better, and he was very thankful to his father for explaining the word had two meanings. But he was still unhappy.
"Do not let a sadness around you, Louis," said the father, "Swans must be cheerful, beautiful and brave. Remember that young people always face some defects. And you just have a speech defect. But I'm quite sure you will overcome it. Besides, the world is full of talkers, but it's hard to find anyone who listens. I promise that you can pick up more information while listening than while talking. "
After hearing what his father said,…
