At 12:46 p. m. on May 4th, 2022, thirteen Chinese scientists reached the top of Mount Qomolangma. They built eight world's highest weather stations from 5200 to 8800 meters on the mountain and four of them were above 7000 meters.
" The first research began in 2017 and it was an important moment of China's second scientific travel to Qomolangma. The station at 8800 meters would be the world's highest weather station,” the leader Yao Tangdong said. To finish the work, Chinese government made up 16 teams with more than 270 scientists. They've gotten a training of over three years.
This year researchers will use the newest technologies to these weather stations. They can study the natural environments and human activities on Qomolangma. The newest technologies will also help scientists study different weather, so they can make right decisions about climate (气候)change.
With these technologies, strong help from government and hard work from scientists, China will become a front-runner in fields such as information technology, science, mountain climbing and geography about the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau (高原)in the world.
Mount Qomolangma was around 8848. 86 meters from the research of China and Nepal in 2020. "There are many key scientific questions left unanswered. If our researches go on, I believe we will have more findings and developments to share with the world, " Yao added.
Can red TV dramas (红色电视剧) make young people more interested in learning about China's revolutionary (革命的) history? The answer is yes. Chinese TV drama Awakening Age(觉醒时代), which tells the story of how the Communist Party of China (CPC)中国共产党 was founded in 1921, ended several months ago, but it remains a hot topic on social media, where discussion shows that it has played a positive (积极的) role in educating young people about China's revolutionary history.
The TV series celebrating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC has won high praise(称赞) online. The stories of the young people in the drama—who gave everything, even, their lives, to the revolution— have touched a large number of viewers (观众). The storytelling in the show has also been commended by viewers for successfully showing the depth of the CPC' s history and spirit, as well as the warmth of China and every family in the country.
Many audiences( 观众) tried to find the background information about the drama and commented that they learned more about the history about the founding of the Party and the country. "I read many of Lu Xun's novels such as A Madman's Diary when I was a student, but 1 couldn't understand why he wrote them or the angry feelings hiding in the characters. After watching the drama, I read these novels again and found that I could now understand what they wanted to express to readers, " said Li Lin, a 29-year-old viewer.
Some school teachers have been showing video clips (片段) from the series in classes to help students learn more about history. A junior high school teacher from Taiyuan, in North China's Shanxi Province, said that some students told her after class that the show had left a strong impression on them.
Like most teenagers in the world, Joso Montanaro, a teen artist in Brazil likes reading and drawing cartoons. But he is special- his drawings get published.
Montanaro is now drawing cartoons for Folha. Folha is Brazil's newspaper and is known for its cartoons. Montanaro has already been working at Folha for two years. Each week he draws two, three or four cartoons and sends them to the paper. From those editors choose one for the next day's page. Montanaro draws about the news of the day. Recently he worked on The Wave- a drawing of the tsunami (海啸) that hit Japan. Montanaro also likes to draw cartoons about the funny things that happen in Brazilian politics (政治).
"I like doing political drawings because you can joke about somebody bigger than you," Montanaro says.
Montanaro's love for cartoons began when he was only 7 or 8 years old. His dad bought him comics. Montanaro says these books gave him the ideas that got him drawing. "I think those great works have really helped me," he says. "They remind me that I should draw something in my book every day."
Taiwan is famous for its hundreds of night markets. It's fun for you to spend time walking through the night markets. It's common to find night markets in most cities and towns in Taiwan. They take place on the same streets every day. During the day, these streets are quiet. At night, there are crowds of people.
Usually people arrive at three or four in the afternoon. By 6:00 p. m. , the streets are full of people, including many tourists. Foodies(吃货) can taste different kinds of snacks here. The food is not only delicious but cheap. When you're just a little hungry, you can buy some snacks. When you are really hungry, you can sit down for a meal. Smelly tofu is popular, although it really smells terrible.
Besides the food, there are shops that sell all kinds of things such as clothes, toys, and books. Things sold at night markets are usually cheap. If you think the price is high, you can bargain with the seller. You may get a lower price.
There are also fun games at the night market. In one game, you throw plastic rings around the top of a bottle. In another game, you shot with a toy gun. If you do well in them, you can win a prize. They're such interesting games that even foreign tourists are fond of them.
The Caofeidian Wetland, which lies in Tangshan, Hebei Province, is an important place for migratory(迁徙的) birds. It was reported in the newspaper on November 9, 2020 that more than2, 000 oriental white storks(东方白鹳), a rare kind of migratory bird, were found there.
In order to watch oriental white storks, I went to the Caofeidian Wetland on November 10, 2020. Luckily, as soon as I got there, I noticed a large number of them looking for food in the swamps(沼泽). I couldn't get close, so I used a pair of binoculars to see them more clearly.
They were about 1.2 metres tall with long hard black beaks(喙) and broad wings. They had long red legs and a long thin neck. Their bodies were covered with white feathers, while their wings were grey and black. They looked so beautiful that I couldn't help taking many photos of them. The oriental white storks used to be common in East Asia several hundred years ago. They lived in wetlands and fed mainly on small fish. In winter, they flew to the wetlands along the Changjiang River in China.
However, as the human population grew larger and larger, the space for them became less and less. They couldn't find enough food to eat. Worse still, some people killed them illegally(非法地). As a result, their population has become very small. At present, there are only about 9, 000 oriental white storks in the world. They are in great danger.
The good news is that they are now strictly protected by law. And more and more people have already realized the importance of protecting them.
①Less space. ② Less food. ③ Humans' hunting.④ Other animals' killing.
Imagine being able to make your own game pieces, model sets or toys? lf you have a 3Dprinter, you can do it. It sounds like magic, but a 3D printer is a real machine. It can be used to create toys, clothing, as well as things like machine parts and musical instruments. Some 3Dprinters can even make food!
3D printers do not use paper or ink. Instead of printing pictures, they print three-dimensional (三维空间) objects with different sizes and shapes. Instead of ink, they use many different materials (材料), like glass, wood, and even chocolate!
Most 3D printers are quite expensive, and they can take up a lot of space. However, making objects with a 3D printer is often more efficient than making them in other ways. For example, accompany in China built a house using a 3D printer. The house covered an area of 200 square meters. The cost of building a house was under $500. It cost far less than a home built in the usual way, and the whole job was finished in just forty-eight hours!
People keep coming up with new ways to use 3D printers. Companies have used them to make shoes, airplane parts, and even hamburgers. The U. S. Navy (海军) came up with the idea of putting them on ships, so sailors (海员) can print new tools or parts while they are at sea. The printers have even been used by astronauts in space. 3D printers are turning ideas into objects, on this planet and elsewhere.

There is a song we all can sing—March of the Volunteers(《义勇军进行曲》). It was composed in 1935 by Tian Han and Nie Er as the theme song of the movie Children of Trouble Time(风云儿女). It was taken as the national anthem(国歌) in 1949.
We learn it at the beginning of primary school and sing it at every flag-raising ceremony(仪式). Now, there is a law to protect the song.
On Sept 1, 2017, the government passed the National Anthem Law and it took effect from Oct 1 in the same year. It stated how we should sing or play the song, requiring all Chinese to respect it.
According to the law, the song will only be allowed to play at nine situations, such as major sporting events, award ceremonies and flag-raising: ceremonies. It shouldn't be used at personal funerals(葬礼) or as background music in public places.
Moreover, the law requires Chinese to be serious when singing the song. We can neither joke about the song nor change the song's words or music. If someone breaks the law, he or she can be detained(拘留) for up to 15 days or held criminally liable(负刑事责任)
Many foreign countries also have laws for their national anthems. For example, US people should put the right hand over their hearts while singing the song. In Russia, the national anthem must be played on television and radio before the start and the end of broadcasting(节目播出).
