WHO IS YOUR ROLE MODEL?
WHY?
My role model is my neighbor Ms. Li. She is in her eighties now but she is still young at heart I often see her riding her bike in the park and she also spends time doing volunteer work. She helps me understand that people won't be old if they still have a great love for life. Adam |
I miss Mrs. White most after primary school. She was our math teacher and always patient with us. She helped us to work out the answers ourselves, no matter how difficult the questions were. So Mrs. White is my role model, and I want to be a teacher like her in the future. Betty |

Yuan Longping is my role model. He is one of the greatest agricultural(农业的)scientists of our time. He worked hard to grow better rice to solve the problems of food shortage. It is sad that Mr. Yuan has left us, but his dreams are carried by many plant and agricultural researches. |

A passenger told an air hostess(空姐)that he needed a glass of water to take medicine when the plane just took off. She told him that she would bring him the water soon.
Twenty minutes later, when the passenger's ring for service sounded, the air hostess realized it at once. She was kept so busy that she forgot to bring him the water. Therefore, the passenger was held up (延迟) to take his medicine. She hurried over to him with a glass of water, but he refused it.
In the following hours on the flight, each time the air hostess passed the passenger, she would ask him with a smile whether he needed help or not. But the passenger never paid attention to her words.
When he was going to get off the plane, the passenger asked the air hostess to hand him the passengers' book-let(意见簿). She was very sad because she knew that he would write down some sharp words, which might make her lose the job. But with a smile she handed it to him.
Off the plane, she opened the booklet, and suddenly smiled. These were the passenger's words. " On the flight, you asked me if I needed help for twelve times in all. How can I refuse your twelve sincere smiles? " That's right! It was her twelve smiles that touched ( 感 动 )the passenger deeply and of course she wouldn't lose her job! It's true that caring for others and kind smiles can solve problems.
Who is the greatest teacher in Chinese history? Many people would think of Confucius(孔子), whose birthday was September 28th. Although he lived over 2,000 years ago, people still remember and respect him for his contribution(贡献) to the education today.
Confucius lived in the Kingdom of Lu, which lies in Shandong Province. He lived during the Spring and Autumn Period. He had a hard childhood. His father died when he was only 3. His mother brought him up. As a child, he had to work to help his mother, but young Confucius didn't give up studying. He visited many famous teachers and learned music, history, poetry and sports.
Later, he became a teacher and started the first public school in Chinese history. At that time, only children from noble families could afford to go to school, but Confucius believed everyone should go to school if they wanted to learn. He had about 3,000 students in his lifetime.
Today, people still follow Confucius's lessons. He told us that we all have something important to be learned. "When I am with three people, one of them must be better than me in some areas. I choose their good qualities(品质) and follow them. "
He also taught us that thinking is very important in study. "All study but no thinking makes people puzzled(困惑的). All thinking but no study makes people lazy. "
Confucius is not only a great teacher, but also a famous thinker with his thoughts about the world and society. His most important teachings are about kindness and good manners. "A person should be strict with himself, but be kind to others," he said.

Have you ever stayed in a hotel? Most Chinese hotels often provide people with things like disposable ( 一次性的) toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo and so on. Many people like the idea because they don't have to bring their own. But, if you travel to Beijing, remember to bring your own things. Starting from June, some hotels in Beijing no longer provide people with these disposables. They want to ask people to use fewer disposable things.
Lots of disposable things are made of plastic. People throw them away after only using them once. It is a waste of natural resources and is very bad for the environment. Do you know one Chinese person makes as much as 400kg of waste a year! Most of that waste comes from disposable things. In Beijing, people throw away about 19000000 kg of plastic bags and 1320000 kg of plastic lunch bowls every year! Plastic can take between 100 and 400 years to break down(腐烂). So the less plastic we throw out, the better. Wherever you travel, bring your own things and use them again and again.

Cooking should be considered as art just like any other activity which requires skills and knowledge. It is often said that students are supposed to learn scientific facts as well as how to prepare meals. The following will explain why cooking should be taught in schools.
Cooking is an important skill in life.
Schools are supposed to teach knowledge to the students so that they can lead successful independent lives when they are out of school. Also, they can step into the world knowing how to make a living.
Cooking helps discover a future career.
When schools offer cooking lessons, students will be interested in it and might take cooking as a career. This will give them the chance to perfect their basic skills and be creative in the kitchen.
Cooking avoids wasting money.
One of the main reasons why cooking should be taught in schools is that the students always use a lot of money to buy ready-made food, while in the real sense they could prepare a nice meal with less cost by buying the required ingredients. (配料)
Cooking betters math learning.
Schools do not just teach how to prepare delicious meals. Students are also taught to follow the instructions without any mistakes when mixing ingredients. If it is "add 1/4 spoon of salt," students should only add that amount(数量). So there is no more or less.
