A video has gone viral (病毒式快速传播的) on Chinese social media. It shows a deliveryman jumping off a high bridge to save a woman in Hangzhou. In the video, the man, in a black T-shirt and black pants, made the simplest preparation before jumping into the river.
"I was riding my e-bike across the bridge to deliver (派送) an order." said 31-year-old Peng Qinglin, the deliveryman, who had received his first order of the day when he heard the call for help. Without thinking twice,
Peng took off his glasses and shoes, put down his phone and jumped into the river.
"I was a little scared at first, because the bridge looked so high." he said. "But the river was swallowing (吞没) her." Peng added. After saving the woman, although he was very tired, the first words Peng said were his delivery was going to be late.
Luckily, the client was understanding. Although the order was finally more than 10 minutes late, he was not angry at all. What's more, people spoke highly of him and the video about his event got more than 40,000 likes in a couple of hours.
For his bravery and kindness, the government showed that all the people were proud of him. Meanwhile, the company that Peng works for has also offered him some money and the chance (机会) to study in college for free. However, what Peng wants most is the chance to study.
"I'm just a deliveryman like many others." Peng said, "If I meet someone in danger, I will still offer a helping hand."
That evening Holmes wore different clothes and a large black hat. He even changed his face and his hair.
"You see." said Holmes to me, "I don't think she wants her new husband to see the photo. But where is it? At her bank? No. Such a woman likes to keep important things herself. I'm sure it's in her house. "
"But the King's men didn't find it!" I said.
"Yes. But they didn't know where to look for it!" said Holmes. "But how will you know it?" I asked. "She'll show me. She'll have to."
Just then Irene's taxi arrived. I waited outside the window and watched. I saw how beautiful Irene was. Then Holmes put up his hand, and I threw the smoke-stick (烟头) into the room. At once, the people in the street and in the house all began to shout "Fire!" very loudly. The house was full of smoke. I walked away, and Holmes came to meet me ten minutes later.
"Well done. Watson." he said. "Have you got the photo?" I asked.
"I know where it is. She showed me." he answered. "But why did she show you?"
"It's easy." he said and laughed. "You saw all those people in the street? I paid them to help us. It wasn't a real fire. When people shout ‘Fire!', a woman runs to the most important thing in her house, her baby, her gold, or...a photo. Irene ran to find her photo which was in a cupboard (柜橱) in the living room. I saw it. But I did not take it. Let's go there and unmask (揭露) the truth tomorrow."
a. Watson threw the smoke-stick.
b. Irene ran to the cupboard.
c. The house was full of smoke.
d. Irene's taxi arrived.
Most people want to be happy, but few know how to find happiness. Money and success alone do not bring lasting ( 长 久 的 ) happiness.. In other words, we make our own happiness. Here are a few suggestions to help you be happier.
The first secret of happiness is to enjoy the simple things in life. , including how to get into a good college or where to get a nice job. Most of the time we fail to enjoy the present (现在). We should enjoy simple pleasures such as spending time with close friends..

Finally, many people find happiness in helping others. . For example, you can help a friend with his or her lessons, go shopping to buy food for your family members, or simply help out around the house by washing the dishes.
A. People who have several close friends are happier and healthier B. People always spend too much time thinking about the future C. If you want to feel happier, do something to help people in need D. Happiness depends on ourselves E. Another secret is to have hobbies where you can forget your problems |
The Underwater Museum of Art (MUSA) in Mexico attracts lots of tourists from different countries every year because it always holds an unusual and popular public art show. What's more, it's the largest museum of its kind in the world.
People built the museum in 2009 and it opened to tourists one year later. It's not like a traditional museum, and it's an environmental project in order to protect sea life. There are over 500 different sculptures (雕塑) in MUSA. These sculptures changed as they became the home to all kinds of plants and sea animals.
There are three galleries (艺术长廊) in MUSA. The Punta Nizuc Gallery is about 4 meters deep with 33 sculptures. It is close to most of the hotels. The Machones Gallery is about 8 meters deep with around 470 sculptures. But only the people who can swim or dive (潜水) can get into this gallery and find the most famous sculptures in MUSA. There's also a third gallery called the Punta Sam Gallery. And it's as deep as the Punta Nizuc Gallery.
Visitors can enjoy the art show and get close to local sea life as they swim or dive around the museum. If you don't want to get wet, you can still visit the underwater museum — just buy a ticket of a glass boat tour. If you get there, you will have a great time.
After a week of rain, we finally had a beautiful 1 day outside. My family and I were driving to a nearby town when my daughter found a2 . We saw old toys, a couple of guitars and even a piece of furniture (家具) or two in the yard. Although it was a very hot summer day, we saw lots of smiling people talking,3 , sitting and standing in the sunshine.
Seeing all of this brought back memories of my 4 . Most of my clothes back then came from yard sales, just like the one my daughter found. As a pupil, I used to 5 going to a yard sale with my mom because I thought it was meaningless. But on one special day, when I found that they also sold old 6 there, I got excited about it. After that, I always looked through the books until it was time to go home and sometimes my mom would buy me one, too. Soon my room became a library full of yard sale books. To me, it was the best7 in the world.
Why do we have yard sales? We8 our old things and we buy "new" old things. But it isn't just for money. It's yard sales that bring us together. We talk and catch up with old friends and new neighbors. We build a bridge between us and the old things with9 and love.
I think yard sales teach us something about life, too. We can't really own anything 10 . All we get is to have the belongings (所属物) for a short time. Then it is time to let them go and pass them on.
Nowadays, young people are always wanting their parents to know they love them, but they often have problems in (show) their love in a direct way. Maybe they are just too shy to say "I love you". How about doing it quietly? Here is some advice from some (teenager).
Leave notes (便条). What about leaving note for your parents on the table? They'll be happy to see it. " it is easy to do, it means a lot." said Lin Yuan, a 13-year-old girl. "I (write) short notes for my parents since I was a first-grade student. They love reading them."
Give an unexpected gift. A surprise gift provides a chance to say "I love you". An unexpected gift doesn't have to be expensive. "I once bought 6 roses on Mother's Day. They led the road to my home from the first stair. My mom liked it so much and jumped (happy)." a junior high school girl shared (she) experience.
Do housework. If your parents usually clean the kitchen, why not do it and surprise them? It's a good way to show your love by helping out chores. "Doing housework together is one of the (important) things for a happy family. Besides, it can develop our (independent)." He Zheng, an 18-year-old boy said with a smile.
Summer vacation is coming. Middle school students will welcome their two-month holiday. Many parents have already started planning immersive experiential (沉浸式体验的) learning trips for their kids.
This kind of new learning trip has been popular for a long time. "Students often learn a lot from a good learning trip and their abilities also improve greatly." said Hu Linhui, a leader of a learning trip.
There are learning trips to Singapore and the UK every year. "I believe this trip can help me get my future dream job." said Wen Peiyao, a student who joined one of the trips last year. " 我从中获得了一种如此强烈的成就感。It will always be one of my best memories."
However, some learning trips are not that useful. Some students felt so bored that they just played on their phones. And the prices of some trips are much too high. As a result, students spend much money and time without learning anything useful. "一个糟糕的研学就是浪费时间。" said a parent seriously, "So it is necessary to make more rules in the future."
