Have you ever fought with someone? Steve is sharing his experience.

Why did you fight with your friend?

When I was in Grade 5, I had a fight with Sam. The teacher, Mrs. Green, decided to teach us a very important lesson. Many years has passed. I have forgotten what the fight was about, but I have never forgotten the lesson I learned that day.

    What did Mrs. Green do?

Mrs. Green showed us a large, round object. I could clearly see that it was black. She asked Sam what color the object was. He answered white. I couldn't believe Sam said the object was white, when it was black! Another fight started between us, this time about the color of the object. The teacher asked us to change the places where we stood. It was an object with two differently colored sides. From Sam's side it was white, while from my side it was black.

So what did you learn from it?

At first I thought that I was right and he was wrong. And Sam just thought that I was wrong and he was right. But after that, I know that we should put ourselves in others' shoes. I think that's what Mrs. Green wanted to teach us at that time.

    1. (1) What's the relationship between Mrs. Green and Steve?
      A . Classmates. B . Friends. C . Mother and son. D . Teacher and student.
    2. (2) Why did they fight the second time?
A . About an important lesson. B . About which grade they were in. C . About their shoes. D . About the color of the object.
    3. (3) What did Steve learn?
A . We should fight with teachers. B . We should buy an object with two differently colored sides. C . We should put ourselves in others' shoes. D . We should ask adults for help.

Do teenagers in small villages do chores at home? How about the teenagers in big cities? Here is a survey. We asked 4,000 teenagers in China several questions. Half of them come from big cities like Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. The others are from small villages. We made a diagram of the result of our survey. Let's have a look at it.

    Chores

    Teenagers in small villages

    Teenagers in big cities

    Take out the rubbish

    1600

    1000

    Sweep the floor

    1200

    850

    Make the bed

    1400

    750

    Do the dishes

    1000

    400

    Fold the clothes

    900

    1100

We found out that teenagers from small villages do more chores than those from big cities.

Our advice to parents in big cities is that parents should give their children some chores to do. Doing chores teaches teenagers to take care of themselves.

    1. (1) How many teenagers in big cities sweep the floor?
      A . 400 B . 750 C . 850 D . 1000
    2. (2) The number of teenagers ____ in big cities is bigger than that in small villages.
A . making the bed B . taking out the rubbish C . doing the dishes D . folding the clothes
    3. (3) What's the purpose of the passage?
A . To teach children how to do chores. B . To advise parents to take care of their children. C . To tell us that teenagers in big cities live a happier life. D . To advise parents in big cities to give more chores to children.

Confidence(自信) is very important in our daily life. It can help us to develop a healthy attitude (态度). A study shows that the people who are more confident are much happier. They can have more chances to make themselves successful.

But how to be more confident? Here are some suggestions:

Speak loud. When you are not confident, you can't do well what you want to do. You speak in a voice so low that other people can hardly hear you. Try to speak loud enough so that people can hear you clearly. The high voice can help you become more confident.

Play sports. Physical exercise makes you tired but completely relaxed. A strong body helps you be full of confidence.

Encourage yourself. Write down a list of things you did during the day to see how many things you have done well. Did you finish your homework? Did you tell a joke that made everybody laugh?

Give yourself praise(表扬) for the good things you have done. This is the best way to encourage yourself.

Pick up a hobby. If you like singing, sing as much as you can. In some ways, a hobby can make you outstanding. And it will make you happy and confident.

    1. (1) How many suggestions are mentioned in the passage?
      A . Three. B . Four. C . Five. D . Six.
    2. (2) According to the passage, we know that the people who are ____ have more chances to make themselves successful.

九、任务型阅读。(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)
  • 36. (2023八下·永年期末)  阅读下面短文,按要求完成66-70题。

Now students' English handwriting (书写) gets worse and worse. That makes their teachers feel worried. Is your English handwriting beautiful? Here are some ways to improve your handwriting.

    Use paper with lines

Using paper with lines can keep you writing well when you write English words or sentences. Those lines on the paper can help you to write words in the right size.

    Slow down

If your writing is hard to read, try slowing down a little. For some kids, writing slowly makes handwriting clear. If you write too fast, you may make more mistakes.

    Hold your pen right

When you hold your pen in the correct way, writing is much easier. Some students hold the pencils so hard when they write. That makes the handwriting not nice. Try to relax yourself and don't hold the pen so hard. If you do so, people will think you are a student with a good habit

    Draw more pictures

Drawing can improve your handwriting. You need to use the skills to control (控制) your pencil better when you are drawing pictures. If you have no time to draw at school, you can practice it at home.

Handwriting is very important. You need to take time to improve it.

    1. (1) Students' bad English handwriting makes teachers .
    2. (2) If your writing is not easy to read, try
