Head to a museum near you and find some inspiration!
JOIN in The Wild Escape and help create one big digital (数字的) artwork that's all about showing how much you care for the nature around us.
This month, you're invited to take part in The Wild Escape, a new project to inspire creativity around wildlife for pupils aged 7 to 11 years old, to find an animal you like in a local museum and create your own picture.
These pictures will then be uploaded and shown as part of a Wild World one big digital artwork at the end of this month.
Hope you'll come and take action to care for nature.
Ready for a journey?
Here's how to take part:
◆Head along to your local museum and find one of the many animals waiting for you there.
◆What do you see? It could be an animal crouching (蹲伏) in a painting or sitting in a photo! Whatever you find, make sure you have a good, long look at it.
◆Create a picture that imagines your animal coming to life and taking a wild journey to a new world.
◆Now, visit www. art fund. org/firstnews to send your picture to a huge digital artwork.

I like going to stores, but how do you know if a store has what you want? The great thing about shopping online is saving time! There are so many choices, and it doesn't take much time to find what you want! (Jake, Sydney, Australia) |
|
The first time I bought something online, I was a little nervous. I didn't know how they were going to ship it. But it arrived OK. Now the only problem is that I do too much shopping online. And because I don't have to go out much anymore, I'm not very fit! (Mari, Lima, Peru) |
|
I wanted to buy a new pair of sunglasses, but I was too busy to go to the stores in the city center. So I decided to order them online. They arrived quickly, but they were broken and the case looked used! So I had to go to the store to change them. What a waste of time! (Troy, Jersey City, USA) |
|
I bought a lot of electronics online last year, and everything was a good deal. The problem is that someone stole my credit card (信用卡) information and went shopping. My advice is: Be very careful when you shop online! (Eric, Ottawa, Canada) |
|
I buy all my things online-it's so cool! I never have to go to the mall or wait in line to pay. And I don't have to go around to different stores to compare prices. The only problem is that I usually spend too much money! I'm broke! (Nancy, Seattle, USA) |
E-waste Electronic waste (e-waste) comes from computers, cameras, phones, fridges, TVs and so on. |
How much e-waste has been produced? There is too much e-waste on the earth. In the past ten years, 506. 5 Mt of e-waste has been produced. That is as heavy as about 50,149 Eiffel Towers. |
What can we do with e-waste?E-waste is harmful to the environment. Repeat the three words in our life: reduce, reuse and recycle. Here are some examples. ◆Quadloop ◆Junichi Kawanishi created solar lanterns with e-waste. turned about 79,000 tons of e-waste into medals. ◆Mixed Reality Lab ◆Alex Lin designed educational toys with recycled about 136 tons of broken computers into ones e-waste for poor kids. that can be used again. |
Pets and Their People By Jess French Do you have a pet? Would you like to get one? This book has everything you need to know about caring for animals. ☆It's full of facts and helpful advice and gives lots of information about some of the most popular pets such as cats, dogs, fish and so on, as well as more unusual ones like snakes and lizards(蜥蜴). ☆You'll find out how to choose the right pet for your family and how to care for them including feeding and training. You'll also find out about the origins(起源) of pets, their behaviour and the different ways they communicate. As an animal doctor, I love all animals and I've had many pets in my life, from dogs to insects. People often ask me how they can best look after their pets. I thought it was time for me to put all my answers down together, so I wrote this book. |
4 USEFUL EXPRESSIONS TO IMPROVE YOUR SPOKEN ENGLISH Do you want to speak English easily and well? In this lesson, we'll help you improve your spoken English with some really useful expressions. For example, "Tom went missing during the rainstorm last night, but luckily, he was found ▲ . " Best of all, Americans use them a lot. They are really useful! OK? Let's start! |
|
Bright and early If you get up "bright and early", you get up very early in the morning. Example: I like to get up bright and early every day on holiday so I can go for a swim before breakfast.
|
Fair and square If something such as a game or decision is "fair and square", it's honest and fair. Example: I think I won that game fair and square, even though Mark would probably disagree with that.
|
Alive and well If someone is "alive and well", they're finally safe after being in danger. Example: I'm pleased to report that the missing climbers are all alive and well.
|
First and foremost We use "first and foremost" before we refer to the most important part of something; it's like saying "most importantly". Example: First and foremost, I'd like to thank everybody for all their help.
|
Nowadays, many wild animals around the world are in danger. Some kinds of them are dying out at an alarming rate (以惊人的速度). Between 150 and 200 species (物种) disappear every day. To make us aware of the serious problem and help save the animals in danger before it's too late, our English teacher shared two posters with us.
We are losing home! Like many other animals, we live in the trees. However, billions of trees are being cut down every year to make paper for humans. In this way, a lot of animals' homes are being destroyed! Is it right to make animals homeless so that humans can have more paper? |
Elephants mostly live on the plain of Africa and in the forests of Asia. But today, they are facing a serious problem: large numbers are being killed for meat and skin, especially for ivory. They are in danger! Only when we stop buying elephant products can we stop the killing and save them. Let's say NO to sale! |
How can I help you?
Dr. Know will try her best to help with all your problems.
Dear Doctor, I am a sixteen-year-old student and I've been experiencing lots of back pain and headaches lately. I'm unsure about the cause. Like some of my friends, I spend my evenings playing computer games and surfing the internet. What's more, I carry a heavy schoolbag to school daily. I'm just an ordinary student, but these health problems are starting to worry me. What can I do? Adam |
Dear Adam, I'm unable to tell you exactly what's wrong, but I can offer some advice. First of all, don't spend too much time on your computer, and stop using it late at night. It's important for teenagers to get enough sleep. Also, you get headaches from looking at computer screens for a long time. If you sit on a chair for long, it can make your back sore too. As for your schoolbag, it's important to manage its weight. Take anything you don't need out of your schoolbag. If possible, leave some books or materials at school. I hope my advice is helpful. Anyway, I strongly recommend(推荐)you visit a local doctor for that. Dr. Know |
