Here are some pet-friendly universities in the UK and US.
University of Illinois
Students are allowed up to two pets in each apartment, as well as a fish tank of no more than 50 gallons.
To keep a pet, you will need to get approval from the Family & Graduate housing department at the University of Illinois. You will have to provide proof that your pet is up to date with its vaccinations(疫苗), and pay a monthly US$30 pet fee, which is non-refundable(不可退款的).
Your pet can't be left for extended periods of time, and if there's evidence that you've left it alone due to vacation or illness, the university may remove it.
Harvard University
With as many as 12 pet-friendly apartments, Harvard is a very pet-friendly university. It allows students to have fish in a tank of no more than 50 gallons, except for Harvard's Cronkhite Graduate Center.
In Harvard's pet-friendly apartments, you're allowed: one cat or one dog, which can't be over 40 pounds when fully grown. At most, two pet birds.
University of British Columbia Students can take advantage of the university's B. A. R. K program, which uses the calming power of therapy dogs to help them.
B. A. R. K started at the University of British Columbia, after an assistant professor called Dr. John-Tyler Binfet noticed that he couldn't walk across campus without students running over to play with his dog, Frances. The students told him they were homesick and missed their pets, which encouraged Binfet to establish B. A. R. K as a way of fighting their loneliness.
University of Oxford
The University of Oxford is famous for its resident pets, who happily wander around college grounds. Many Oxford colleges have their own tortoise and take part in the annual Corpus Christi tortoise race.
Although you are not allowed to keep your own pet as a student, several Oxford colleges hold dog petting and walking therapy sessions.
Have you still remembered what happened when you went to school on the first day? I still remember my interesting first day of school. On that day, I hurried to my science class in the morning and found a seat in the back. I waited there for 15 minutes before the bell rang. The science teacher told us about some class rules. No one talked to me; nor did I talk to anyone else. I was one of those very shy girls. After the science class, I had an English class. I thought it would be boring but it turned out to be very funny. When the classes of the morning ended I went to lunch. I sat outside the dining room with no one to talk to and no food because I was too nervous to join the lunch line. I kept looking around hoping to see someone I knew but I never saw anyone.
Lunch ended and I went to have my art class. I was the first one there and not even my teacher was there yet. So I sat at my desk and started drawing some pictures. I didn't notice the rest of the class walking in or the girl that was standing behind me till I was surprised by the voice, "So what are you drawing?" It was a girl who had really long hair. She ended up being my best friend and one of the kindest and liveliest girls I know.
In the next class meeting, the teacher asked us to talk about the past holiday. I was glad to make some new friends in the class. The first day of high school was hard for me but I got through it.
When my teenaged son became seriously ill, terrible times for my family began. Our once-happy home became tense and depressed. My husband and I were exhausted under the great stress of caring for my son. It was as if we forgot how to communicate-we couldn't have a simple conversation without a fighting. Our marriage was on the point of breaking up.
One evening, my son and I were talking about gifts. I recalled my first Valentine's present from my husband, a kazoo. I was awkward when I received it because I couldn't get it to make a sound although I am a professional saxophone player. However hard I tried, it just never worked. The kazoo eventually got packed away and forgotten. But my son was interested and insisted on seeing it. After some trouble, I found it.
"You couldn't get a sound? What's so hard about it?" my husband asked, amazed. He took the kazoo and blew. Nothing happened. Surprised, he tried again. Still there was no sound. Frustrated, he tried again, only to produce a funny sound like an angry bumblebee trapped in the mouth of a bear. We burst into laughter. My son took a turn to play the kazoo. He did no better than us, causing more laughing.
Seeing his face light up, we felt as if the darkness had lifted and a ray of sunshine was let in. It was the best ten minutes of the past couple of years. The mood stayed light for the rest of the evening. It didn't solve anything. But this experience with the kazoo brought some change in our hearts that always reminds us that there are still things to laugh at and enjoy, and that we can still connect as a family.
Have you ever heard someone say "breakfast is the most important meal of the day" or explain to you why it's vital to start the day with a healthy breakfast? It seems that this meal, for many of us, is necessary for our day to start well, but is it really that important?
The word "breakfast" comes from "breaking the fast (禁食期)" — the idea of ending the period in which we don't eat during the night. The regeneration process that takes place while we are sleeping consumes some of our natural food reserves in our bodies. Breakfast gives us an opportunity to replenishthose reduced stores of things like protein and calcium. So, in that way, a healthy breakfast makes sense.
There are also many studies which seem to relate a state of obesity(肥胖) to skipping breakfast. In fact, it leads many health experts to conclude that a healthy breakfast not only regulates but also loses weight. In a U.S. study, 50,000 people were observed over seven years, and those who ate a healthy breakfast were found to have a lower BMI, which seems to suggest that breakfast may indeed help people maintain a healthy weight.
But it might not be as simple as that. Some experts, like Alexandra Johnstone, professor of the University of Aberdeen, suggest those who skip breakfast might be less aware of healthy diets, and people who eat breakfast might have a healthier lifestyle overall — exercising and not smoking, for example. And with the popularity of intermittent (间歇的) fasting to lose weight, there may also be some benefits to skipping breakfast. Intermittent fasting can improve blood sugar control, insulin sensitivity, and lower blood pressure.
So, while breakfast has its benefits, it might not be the most important meal. It seems that a healthy lifestyle with a balanced diet might be more important for us than just one single meal.
Parents with high expectations for their children are nothing new to Chinese kids. However, people often don't realize that children also have expectations of their parents.
China Youth & Children Research Center did a survey in 2018 on this topic in the United States, Japan, South Korea and China. It showed that 83.8 percent of Chinese children want to be friends with their parents.
But the reality is different. Respecting one's elders and the concept of hierarchy are preventing parents from becoming friends with their children.
. As children, what can you do to create a pleasant atmosphere at home and make friends with your parents?
Act like an adult.
If you want your parents to give you more freedom, you should show them that you're ready to be treated differently. For example, learn to use self-control. Show them that you can manage your time well.
US psychologist Carl E. Pickhardt wrote in Psychology Today that sharing feelings with our parents can lead to positive changes, while not sharing them can cause misunderstandings.
Do something nice or helpful for your parents. For example, help them with some home chores, make them gifts or teach them some computer skills. Their trust in you will grow.
A. Open your heart.
B. Traditional Chinese values might be a reason.
C. Be a good student at school.
D. Both parents and children should make efforts to create friendship in the family.
E. Care for your parents.
F. Chinese parents tend to spoil their children.
G. What expectations do Chinese children have for parent-child relationships?
When I first met Sarah, all I noticed was her drool (口水) running from the corner of her mouth. As Mrs. Wagner pushed the wheelchair towards me, I felt 1 . Why did she sit beside me?
For the entire morning, I was uneasy. Eventually, I nerved 2 to ask Mrs. Wagner, "Mrs. Wagner, can I have my 3 changed?"
She patted (拍) my shoulder gently and said, "Natalie, Sarah 4 our care. Try it."
Why? I didn't need a deskmate with running drool! I decided to 5 Sarah, at three o'clock, our 6 teacher came and said, "Kickball time! Put on your gym shoes." As I bent (弯腰) over to tie my shoes, Sarah caught my attention and I wondered 7 it feels to never walk. My 8 felt tight.
Mrs. Wagner asked me, "Natalie, 9 Sarah cannot kick, she can throw balls. Would you help her in the gym class?"
I had to 10 and push Sarah to the playground.
Firstly, Matt kicked the ball and it came to me. I handed it to Sarah and she 11 it, which just struck Mike's heel!
"You got him out!" I shouted. Sarah 12 happily. Then I laughed, too. The rest of the game was 13 and we all enjoyed ourselves.
At the end of the day, Sarah read a journal entry to us, "My 14 day of school went well. I had fun playing kickball. I made a nice new friend, Natalie."
Sarah 15 at me. I didn't notice her drool. What I saw was a new friend, a friend I had almost missed.

The first week of September was a week that I had been expecting all summer. I didn't want summer to end. But I was excited about going to high school for my first week.
When I got to school in the morning on the first day I realized how large the school was, and how many students went there. I ended up in the wrong classroom because of the size of the school. Luckily, a kind senior showed up and guided me to my homeroom before I was late. I was happy to see that in a class of unfamiliar (不熟悉的) faces, the only open seat was next to my good friend, Casey. My science teacher seemed like a good teacher. She was exciting and fun.
After finishing four periods without too much of a challenge, I didn't feel too bad about ninth grade.
However, the fifth period changed everything.
The first week passed quickly.
