Dear Mike,

How is everything? I am not happy these days. My parents are angry with me because they think I live an unhealthy life on weekends. They want me to spend my weekend like my sister Jenny. 

I always get up late. So I usually have nothing for breakfast. I play basketball for an hour then. For lunch, I often eat out. Hamburgers and ice-cream are my favorites. I know they are not good for me, but they taste great. After lunch, I usually go to the movies with my friends. Sometimes, I sleep all the afternoon. In the evening, I either watch TV or play computer games. I don't go to bed until eleven thirty.

But Jenny is different. She never gets up after six thirty. Then she brushes teeth and does morning exercises. After that, she has milk and eggs. She does her homework all the morning. For lunch, she eats rice, meat, fish and vegetables. She studies for 3 hours before she eats dinner. Sometimes, she helps with housework after dinner. Then she goes out to take a walk. She reads and takes a shower before going to bed. "What an excellent day I have!" Jenny always says.

It is weekend! I just want to relax myself well. I hate to hear my parents always say the same words again and again to me. It's terrible to live like Jenny! What can I do?

Hank went camping with his dad and brother Carlos. They set off for the woods. They found a good place for their tents. The boys helped Dad put up two tents. They put their sleeping bags inside one of the tents. "You can find some firewood," said Hank's dad, "then I'll make a campfire. "

The boys went into the woods. Carlos found three sticks (棍子). Dad put hot dogs on the ends of the sticks and cooked them over the campfire. Then the boys cooked some bread and potatoes. Everything tasted great!

After dinner the boys sat by the campfire, singing and telling funny jokes. Dad told scary stories. It was getting dark and cold. Hank moved closer to the fire to stay warm. They could hear the sound of something moving in the woods. 

"What was that?" asked Carlos.

"I don't know, but it sounds big," said Hank and he moved closer to his dad.

"I think we should go to bed now," said Carlos.

The boys said good night to Dad. They went into the tent and crawled (爬) into their sleeping bags. They talked about fishing tomorrow. Soon they were asleep and dreaming about the big fish they would catch(抓). 

When the boys got up the next morning, Dad said, "Look!" He pointed to a footprint. "I think that noise we heard last night was a deer. "

Both boys were hungry. They took their fishing poles (杆子) and ran to the lake. "Let's see if we can catch lunch. " said Hank.

And they did!

Elephants are the biggest animals that live on land. They live on grasslands and in forests of Africa and Asia. Elephants have long noses called trunks. They have big ears like fans. Their skin is gray-black. They have some short hairs on their backs and tails. Male (公) elephants live alone or in small groups. Female elephants live together with their babies. 

An Elephant's Food

Elephants must eat most of the day to get enough food they need. They eat grasses, leaves, and bark (树皮) from trees. An elephant must drink lots of water, too.

An elephant's trunk has many uses. An elephant uses it to pick up food and put food into its mouth. An elephant drinks by sucking (吸) up water into its trunk. Then the elephant squirts (喷射) the water into its mouth. Elephants use their trunks to greet each other. They hold their trunks high to catch smells in the air. The tip of the trunk can pick one berry off a bush.

An Elephant's Baby

A baby elephant is very big. It is heavier than a man. The newborn baby sucks milk from its mother. After a few months, the baby will also eat plants. The mother will feed her baby for two years. 

 It is very quiet and I do my homework every evening there. I also enjoy reading there. There are different books for everyone. When I read, time just goes quickly!

 On weekends, I like to spend my time there with my friends. I love all the animals there. Monkeys are my favorite. They look funny when they fight with each other. 

 It is not far from my home. Our family always go shopping there. We can find whatever we want. Also, things there are not only cheap but also wonderful. 

 The best things in life are free! I love the sunshine, beautiful flowers, green trees, and fresh air there. It is a good place for me to exercise, too. 

 If you want to try excellent food, this is the best place for you. Everything is delicious, especially the soup and the beef. I find it enjoyable to have meals there.

On weekends I either do homework at home or play outside with my friends. However, my last weekend was a little 1 .

The Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal (大运河) is about 1,800 kilometers long. It  (start) from Hangzhou in the south and goes to Beijing in the north. It has  long history of more than 2,500 years. 

In the year AD 605, Emperor Yang Guang  (give) an order to build (建造) the canal. Building such a long canal was  (real) difficult at that time. 

3. 6 million people worked on it and in a short time many of them lost  (they) lives. It took people about six years to build the canal. The Grand Canal became a bridge between the north  the south of China. 

The Grand Canal was built in ancient (古代的) China but it is still in use today. Every day, (ship) go up and down the canal. And many people like to take a walk along it. It is part of many Chinese (people) life. Now, lots of people are (live) happily along the canal. They call it "mother river" and it is one of the symbols Hangzhou.
