In February 2007, about two hundred paragliders were in Australia to prepare for the World Championship. They included Ewa Wisnierska, a German paragliding champion (冠军). One morning, as the 1 were getting ready to take off, they noticed that a terrible storm was coming. However, they decided to 2 . After all, these were the best paragliders in the world.
Unluckily, as the competitors took off, the weather quickly became 3 . Ewa tried to get away from the storm, but two huge 4 came together and caught her.
The clouds pulled Ewa up inside the storm like a leaf in the 5 . She flew higher and higher, , with lightning (闪电) and hailstones (冰雹) all around her. . "Iwas 6 ," she told reporters afterwards. After forty minutes Ewa woke up. She was still inside the storm. It was dark and hailstones were 9 past. They were as big as tennis balls. Finally, Ewa came out of the storm cloud and 10 towards a small farm and landed 11 . She fell to the ground, too 12 to call for help. When her team 13 her, she was 60 km away from the place where she took off. She was covered in ice-but alive!

The Ameca Robot is Getting Better The Ameca robot is once again making headlines. In a video released by Engineered Arts, the humanoid robot is shown engaging in conversation. For each question posed by the human participant, the robot briefly pauses before delivering a response that mixes words with proper facial expressions. Besides, this Ameca demo uses GPT3 for conversation and translation. ____ Anyone can put on a show at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and this year even robots were getting in on the act. One of Fringe's big shows even used a small robot to come up with jokes from audience suggestions, which were then performed by humans. The results could be very funny, but sometimes they weren't funny at all. That was part of the point, explained Piot Mirowski, the show's co-maker. "We do not use humans to show off Al, we use AI to show its limitations ( (局限性), to show human creativity on the stage." said Mirowski. Artificial Intelligence and Education On October 21st, at the New Oriental Family Education Summit Forum, Yu Minhong stated that AI is not very beneficial (有益的) for children in terms of education. Robin Lee retorted (反驳): "I think this is a misunderstanding." Yu Minhong said, anyway, if a boy writes a particularly beautiful love letter to a girl, don't believe it was written by the boy himself, it may be written by artificial intelligence. Robin Lee replied, "It depends on his ability to write key words." |
I hid the long black bag in the garage (车库). Tonight, in the dark. If everything went OK, I would carry out my secret project. But I had to be sure that no one, not even my wife, saw me.
It was more difficult to get away from the party than I expected. I made an excuse that the children were tired and needed to get to bed. It was partly true. Of course the main reason for leaving was to complete my plan.
Then I had to get the kids to sleep. That was never easy at any time and tonight it was even more difficult. The eldest one wanted to know why we left the party early. I told him 10: 30 p. m. was not early. As usual, I read them a bed time story, but I had to stop myself reading too quickly in case that they would learn my secret.
Silence finally came, and feeling like a thief in the night, I went out of the house and into the garage. Taking one end, I dragged the bag out from its hiding place and took it into the garden. I was worried that my neighbors might find me and call the police. It was already eleven o'clock. By the light of the moon I started working, trying to make as little noise as possible. In fact, that was not easy with a saw (锯子) and a hammer (锤子).
After much hard work, I finally completed my work. I looked down at my watch. It was exactly 4: 00 am. I went inside to have a shower and get a few hours of sleep, with great satisfaction.
It was long before the kids would rush into my room and woke me up. They were so thrilled, racing to tell me, "Daddy! Santa Claus brought us a lovely tree house this year." Seeing their excitement on their faces, I knew it's worthwhile for me to do it.
