Monty is a little boy. He never says hello to teachers when he meets them. He doesn't give way to old people in the street. And he doesn't feel sorry after losing friends' things. Mom is angry with him, "Could you learn some manners (礼仪)?"
"That's boring. Why not buy manners? It's easy." Monty says. Mom doesn't think Monty is right, but she still gives him money.
Monty leaves home happily. He walks into the first store and shouts (叫喊),"Hey, do you sell manners?" No one answers. He goes to the second, third and fourth stores. Still, no one answers. He comes to the last store. It's Uncle Tom's. There are lots of people in it, so Monty waits there for a few minutes. At last, he asks, "Uncle Tom, do you have manners to sell?"
Uncle Tom smiles and says, "My boy, you can't buy manners. You can only learn manners." Monty is sad and then goes home.
After getting home, Monty says he didn't buy manners. Mom just says, "You must be hungry. Let's have dinner!"
"Mom is the best. She makes delicious food for me. I want to thank her!" Monty thinks. "Thank you, Mom!" A very nice word comes out of Monty's mouth.
Mom smiles and says, "You didn't buy manners, but you learned manners."
Monty smiles, too,
Do you feel lonely (孤独的) when your best friend isn't around? Maybe because he or she moved to a different school or a different class, and you want to make new friends. But how do you find them? Here's my opinion.
First, try by yourself. Start by looking around your classroom—think about which kids you'd like to play with after class. Say hi to them, and be friendly. Share something or invite someone to play with you. Say "Do you want to sit here?" in the lunchroom. When you are at break, just walk over to the kids and say "Hi, may I join you?" or just join in.
Then, ask your teacher for help. If you have problems with this, you can ask your teacher to help you make new friends. Teachers are usually very good at it. But you do remember, the best way to make friends is to be a friend. Being friendly, being helpful and sharing—pretty soon, you'll have one, or two, or even more new friends.
Maybe you will still miss your old friend sometimes. But when you see each other again, you can share something you didn't have before he or she left: You can introduce (介绍) him or her to your new friends!
More and more people like bicycling and it is no surprise. It is fun, healthy and good for the environment (环境). Maybe that's why there are 1,4000,000,000 bikes and only 4,000,000 cars on roads worldwide today. Bikes can take you almost anywhere, and there is no oil cost!
Get on a bike and ride around your neighborhood. You may discover something new all around you. Stopping and getting off a bike is easier than stopping and getting out of your car. You can bike to work and benefit (受益) from the enjoyable exercise.
Folding (折叠) bikes work well for people who take the train. Just fold the bike and take it with you. You can do the same on an airplane. A folding bike can be packed in a suitcase.
Health benefits of bicycling:
. It helps to prevent (预防) some physical problems.
. It helps to lose weight (重量). A 15—minute bike ride going to and coming back from work three times a week burns off five kilos of fat in a year.
.It can make you happy. Exercise like this can make people feel better and more relaxed.
. It is healthier than driving.
A. Turn your mind to somewhere else. B. Try to smile more. C. Don't laugh at others. D. Talk to others first. E. Tell people you are shy. |
How to Be Outgoing
If you think you are too shy and want to be a little outgoing, try the following. You can make it.
There's no need to hide (隐藏) it. When they get to know you are a shy kid, they'll understand you better. This also helps you feel more comfortable when talking with others.
Smile to others so they will think you are friendly and easy to talk to. Remember that other people have feelings too and most people will stay away from an angry—looking face.
Try to start a conversation. If you find it hard to do so, say something nice about people around you. Think about how great you feel when someone says something nice to you. Doesn't it make you want to keep talking to those people?
Don't waste time worrying about your looks or if people like you. Think more about ways to enjoy the party or the game.
Keep trying and one day you won't be "shy" any more when you talk to others.
Are you shy or outgoing? What can you do to make more friends?
Alex is a young boy. He likes 1 very much. He wants to play the piano and join the school music club. But all these things are 2 for him. Why? Because he has no hands.
Many people think it is impossible to play the piano 3 no hands. Alex is also one of them. He doesn't think he can play it, 4 he has a big dream—he 5 wants to be a good pianist.
Alex's parents always tell him that where there is a will, there is a way. They 6 a nice music teacher for Alex. And Alex's parents take him to music lessons every Tuesday and Thursday. At first, 7 is really hard for Alex to play the piano. But after about two years of practice, the boy can play it 8 by arms. And now he's not shy any more. He often plays the piano before the class and sometimes 9 the piano competitions in his school.
"My music teacher and classmates always help me with the lessons. I make many friends there and join the school music club now. I must thank 10 . And I must thank my parents, too. They teach me a lesson—nothing is impossible."

Mr. White works in an office. He likes reading in bed before (go) to bed every night. It is bad his eyes. Now he can't see everything (good). But he doesn't want anybody (know) about it and he doesn't wear glasses. It often brings him some problems.
On a cold morning he goes to a village to see one of his (friend). He gets off a bus at a station in a town. Then he has to walk there. The road to village is not so good. He falls over many times it makes his clothes very dirty. The wind blows strongly and his hat is blown off. He runs after it (quick) but he can't catch it. He sees his hat run into a room. And then he runs into the room, too. Just then, a woman shows up and stops (he) at once. She says angrily, " are you running after my hen?"
—Sounds great, how about t a walk after lunch?
Dear Li Ping, I am really happy that I will go to your school next term. Could you please tell me about your daily life at school? Besides, what are some of your school rules? What do you think of them? Looking forward to your reply. Peter |
