"Can I see my baby?" asked the new happy mother.
Unluckily, she found her baby had been 1 without ears when it was in her arms.
Time proved that the baby's 2 was perfect. He got on well with his classmates. But one day, he rushed home and said to his mother 3 tears in his eyes" A big boy 4 me a freak(怪胎)."
As the boy 5 , he developed a talent for art and music.
The boy's father had a meeting with the family doctor." Could anything 6 done?" He asked the doctor.
"I believe I could graft(移植) a pair of outer ears 7 you could get them," the doctor said.
However, two years 8 , nobody wanted to offer the young man ears. Then one day the father said, "Son, 9 will offer his ears to you. But it's a secret." The operation was a great 10 .
Time kept the secret, but the day did come … The young man stood with his father 11 his mother's body. Slowly, the father held out a hand and raised the thick, brown hair. 12 , the son found his mother had no outer ears.
"Mother said she was glad she 13 let her long hair be cut," the father said gently "and nobody ever thought Mother 14 beautiful, did they?"
Real 15 lies not in what is done and known, but in what is done but not known.

Last month, I took my son Tom to see his grandparents in the countryside. His grandpa took him to the yard to play. Tom was curious about everything.
At lunch, Tom told me, "Dad, I saw a hen flying."
"Impossible!" I said without thinking. "How can a hen fly?"
"Dad, the dog ran after the hen in the yard. The hen was tapped (被困) in a corner. When the hen saw no other way out, she suddenly flapped her wings and flew up to the roof (房顶). The hen escaped. Dad, I didn't know hens could fly. How can she fly?" my child asked.
I thought for a while and said, "Maybe because of love. The hen loves her own life and that helps her fly!"
Tom nodded (点头). He seemed to have understood.
Last weekend, we visited Tom's grandparents again. This time I heard Tom shouting from the yard, "Dad! The dog is chasing the hen again! Come and see!"
I ran out of the house. The hen was running after a group of chickens, followed closely by the dog. Then the hen suddenly stopped and turned around-she raised up wings and clucked at the dog.
I ran over and got between the dog and the hen, shouting at the dog to drive it away.
"Dad, why didn't the hen fly away? She knows she can't fight the dog." Tom asked.
I thought for a while and said, "Maybe because of love. She loves her babies more than anything in the world."
Tom thought for a long time and nodded. He seemed to have understood.
Once upon a time, there lived two brothers named Jacob and William in Germany. They liked to listen to old stories and then write them down. Then they had enough stories to make a book. You can guess the name of their book! It is Grimm's Fairy Tales.
The story of this little book began when the brothers were still in school. And it started with a good teacher. This teacher liked to find out how things happened. Soon the two brothers were doing the same thing. They asked questions and then looked for answers to them.
Among the questions the brothers asked, "Who made up the old fairy tales? Who first told about Cinderella? Who made up the story of Snow White and the story of Sleeping Beauty?"
They found that no one knew the answers to such questions. The tales were made up in very early times. Most of them were made up in days before people knew how to write. People told the stories to one another and to their children. But only a few old people still remembered them.
"When these old people die, the stories will die with them," said the brothers. "We must write down all the stories we can find."
Jacob and William hunted for stories for five years. At last they had 89 tales written. Just before Christmas, in 1812, the first book was published. People loved the book! They asked for more fairy stories. So the two brothers put tales into two more books. In all, they collected 210stories to put into their books.
Recently, there were two pieces of sad news. An old gorilla (大猩猩)called Sentai was seriously ill because some visitors fed them food. Another poor animal, a deer, died with 3.5 kilograms of plastic bags in her stomach. The two poor animals remind people of the most basic zoo rule again: do not feed animals.
Visitors often throw foods like peanuts and bread to animals. They think it's kind for them to feed the animals. However, the foods are not good for the animals and may cause them to become sick.
"Imagine if someone often gives your children snacks and sweets. Would your children have healthy food as usual? This behavior can lead children to ignore (忽视) the healthy food. This is the same to animals," Zhang, an animal expert in Beijing, told the Global Times.
Poor Sentai's condition makes many people feel angry, and some people advise zoos to do more than just stop visitors when they feed animals. Some even advise the zoos to make a "blacklist" to keep those visitors out. However, it is very difficult for zoos to do this job. A worker in Shanghai zoo says that workers in the zoo will correct people's mistakes and try to improve public awareness (意识)to stop this behavior.
Some people say that after hearing the news, they felt sorry for feeding animals at the zoo. Others say they are surprised to find that their "kind behaviors" could actually harm the animals.
We human beings can express our feelings when we feel ill or uncomfortable, but this is impossible for animals. So it's important for visitors to protect the animals-by not feeding them.
