Have you ever taken a train? 1 things often happen on the train. Years ago, I went to the city when I noticed a family 2 train. There were two little girls, their mum, and her friend, all of them with big bags. From what it looked like, they were going to be away for several days. One of the girls sat next to an older gentleman, who started talking with 3 .
4 the train ride went on, the little girl said that they were on their way to the children's 5 in the city, where her sister Hayley was receiving treatment (治疗). Without asking more about it, the man spoke with the girls on and off during the journey.
Towards the end of the ride, the man started writing something on a piece of paper. As the train stopped at his station, he walked over to the girl's mum and handed her a 6 , saying, "That's for Hayley." Then he got off the train before anyone had a chance to 7 him.
The mum was surprised at first. As she looked at the check, there was a 8 on her face. She looked up, hoping to catch the man before he disappeared from view, but he had already gone.
The moment left a lasting impression (印象) on me. It 9 me that small acts of kindness can make a big difference in someone's day. It also made me wonder about the man's story and what 10 him to do this for strangers on a train.
W: Hey, you look unhappy, what's wrong?
M: It's my birthday tomorrow.
W: Why aren't you excited?
M: I never look forward to my birthday.
W: Why not? Aren't you going to celebrate?
M: Whenever I make plans, they always go wrong.
W: Not always, surely.
M: I just have bad luck. This morning, for example, I woke up really late.
W: But that's good. You had extra time to sleep!
M: It meant I was in a rush and split half my coffee.
W: At least you could still drink the other half.
M: Why are you always so positive?
W: It's good to have a positive attitude.
M: After that, I was splashed (溅到) by a car. Can you see a positive side to that too?
W: I can see the funny side …
M: It wasn't very funny for me.
W: You need to lighten up. That's why we should celebrate your birthday.
M: Okay, if you insist. I'll book a table at my favorite Italian restaurant.
W: I can't eat Italian food, it makes me sick.
M: Don't worry. Fortunately, you taught me to see the positive side.
W: What positive side?
M: There will be even more food for me.

Edwar | Review 1 My wife and I went to the Restaurant Century for her birthday. It was a Saturday night and the restaurant was crowded. The host was very nice They gave us a quiet table at the back of the restaurant. The food was excellent and not very expensive. After dinner, the waiter gave my wife a free dessert. We had a great time. We are going back!
Sue | Review 2 I do not recommend Restaurant Century. The restaurant was crowded and noisy. I ordered a cheese burger with a salad, but they gave me a hamburger with French fries. I asked the waiter to fix my order. He was angry. Next time I go out for lunch,I'm going to different places
The Earth we live in is facing a big challenge. The air and water have been polluted seriously. Resources (资源), specially water resources are also gradually becoming less and less. Therefore, let's take action together to protect the beautiful blue planet.
What is World Water Day?
People, animals and plants all depend on water. This day is about encouraging people to take action to fight the world water crisis (危机). The main focus of this day is to help achieve the goal of having clean water for everyone by 2030.
The water crisis situation
Although over 70% of the Earth's surface is covered by water, the freshwater resurces for human use are not abundant.
Many people in developing countries drink polluted water. One in four children's deaths in the world is caused by lack ( 缺乏) of clean water. Over two billion people live in countries that don't have a good enough water. It will be more dificult to find the safe drinking water, and half of the world's population could be living in areas of water lack by 2025.
Infuence of water resources shortage
Because of the lack of water resources, it is hard to find the safe, clean water for drinking. People drink dirty water instead, which can cause deadly diseases. It has effect on the children's education. Many children have to walk far every day just to collect water for their family. Without water, people can't keep clean, so diseases spread.
How can we help?
Use less water in your daily life. For example, have shorter showers and turn off the tap while you brush your teeth. Tell your friends and family about the importance of protecting and saving water for the life of our planet. Support charities that help bring clean water to people who need it.
Nearly all of us have an unpleasant habit, whether we realize it or not,and we want to get rid of it but didn't know the proper ways. Here's some advice on how to get rid of bad habits.
◆Make a list.
Write down all the reasons why you want to stop a certain behavior —how it's hurting you and why getting rid of it. Look at that list often. That will be helpful.
◆Join other activities.
It's wise of you to do something else when you want to stop your bad habits. If you get angry easily, for example, you can practice deep breathing or go for a walk.
◆Give yourself a reward.
Before you get rid of a bad habit, decide what you'll do to celebrate it if you achieve your goal. ◆Keep off bad habits.
If you are fat and want to lose weight, keep junk food out of your house. If you are a heavy smoker, keep away from smoky bars or friends who like smoking.
◆Be patient
Bad habits develop over years,so you probably won't be able to get rid of them quickly. In
fact, people often give up several times before being successful,so you should be patient. ◆Find support
Don't be afraid to ask for support from friends, family or other people who have the samebad habits as you. When you talk to others, they might be able to give you some advice or encouragement that you normally wouldn't get from yourself.
It's nice for someone to return the money he or she found to the owner. It's also what people need to do by law (法律).
Recently a university student left her smartphone in a restaurant. A man later picked it up. When the phone owner found the man, he asked for two thousand yuanfrom the owner. He even said that he would delete (删除) all the information on the phone if the owner wouldn't give him the money. The owner couldn't provide the money and she didn't have to. The police suggested that the owner should file a lawsuit (起诉) against the man.
According to the Civil Code (民法典), when you find something by accident, you mustn't keep it as your own. You can either tell the owner to come and get it if you can reach him or her, or you can hand it over to the police.
In one situation, the finder can get money from the owner. By law, the owner should pay the money the finder had to spend for safe keeping. The owner should also pay the traveling expenses (费用) of the finder when he or she returns the lost thing. Other than this, the finder shouldn't ask for more money, such as a reward for giving it back. If the finder keeps the lost things on purpose (故意), he or she may face up to two years in prison (监狱) if the lost things are very valuable.
More and more people pay great attention to relationship in career success. Being polite is first and most important step to develop good relationship among friends. Polite words can be easy yet very powerful in your (day) life.
Always saving "please" and "thank you" will make your friends more (comfort) and more willing to offer help when necessary. We all know that one man's success is based on how he deals people. Always be thankful to other people's (kind) and show your thanks through the words you speak. The more support you win from other people, the (fast) you will move towards your goal.
Although some people may (easy) forget the importance of being polite, we students should form good habits and behave in good manners. First, learn to be friendly to your parents and (relative) at home. Then at school, listen respectfully when your teachers instruct you. Follow and accept their advice to improve (your). You will make further progress if you express your thanks in time.
Remember being polite costs nothing it's worth millions of dollars.
