Months ago, a new kind of transportation came out. A company called Sky Drive gave a demonstration (示范) of its new flying, the SD-03. The small car 1 around for four minutes, staying about three to six feet 2 the ground. The SD-03 is powered by batteries (电池) and has eight motors (发动机).
What made this test flight 3 was that a pilot was on board. Tomohiro Fukuzawa, who leads Sky Drive, said, "Of the world's more than 100 flying car projects, only a few of them have 4 with a person on board."
Many 5 around the world are working to develop flying cars. Some governments, including Japan's, 6 the idea, hoping that in the future flying cars will be 7 for short trips like taxi rides in cities. Flying cars could also save 8 and reach places that can't be reached by roads. 9 is easy! There are also many challenges in the way. Con-trolling a flying car is 10 difficult that most people won't be able to do it. Some people 11 flying cars will reduce (减少) traffic jams (阻塞). 12 , new systems will be needed to help control traffic in the air. With lots of 13 flying around, the new systems may be too 14 for humans to manage. Also, flying cars will be very expensive.
Mr. Fukuzawa wants the SD-03 to be able to fly two passengers on trips of up to three miles by 2023. He hopes people will be able to fly 15 inside Tokyo in just ten minutes by 2050.

Love, joy and the warm feeling of getting together don't cost a thing. But gifts do cost money. So what should a poor family do?
When I was 10, I told my mother that the only thing I wanted for the New Year was a pogo stick (弹簧单高跷). However, my mother said it was so expensive that we couldn't afford one.
On a Saturday before New Year, my family went shopping together. While my mother and I were picking out the gifts, my dad said, "I'll be back soon-I need to see something in the tool area." A moment later, he came back with a long box. I remembered wondering if there was a pogo stick in it.
When we arrived home, my dad put the box in the garage. While my parents were busy with their chores, I quietly walked out to the garage and found the box. I was so excited and I knew as soon as I opened that magical box, my bright, shiny pogo stick would appear. No such luck! Inside the box was a silly old broom (扫帚).
That New Year morning, I got some gifts like a tiger toy and a saving pot, but I didn't get the present that I really wanted. How upset I felt at that moment though I didn't want my parents to see!
After cleaning up the room, my dad went to the garage. When he came back, he was carrying a beautiful pogo stick. I couldn't believe it! My parents probably got quite a laugh from the trick they played on me.
Although we didn't have much money, my parents gave me the most important gift of all: lots of love. That was over 60 years ago and I still think about those wonderful memories. They were full of my childhood. I will never forget all the joy my parents brought into my life.
"How was your weekend?" "Did you see the game on TV last night?" "Isn't the weather beautiful today?" These questions and the answers to them are examples of "small talk" — the short, friendly conversations that people have with friends and parents.
Some people avoid making small talk at work. They think they shouldn't talk about things that aren't important for the job, or their partners will think they aren't serious about their work. And some people just don't enjoy making small talk about themselves.
But small talk is important! Knowing how to make small talk is a skill that can help you a lot. By making small talk, you show that you're friendly and interested in your partners. You become a better team member. If you don't make small talk, others might feel uncomfortable around you and think you're unfriendly. Peter Harper, a manager at the Apex Company in the USA,says, "We always look for friendly workers who know how to communicate with each other and with our customers (顾客)."
Here are some tips for successful small talk. You can talk about safe topic such as the weather, sports, hobbies, TV programs and famous people like movie stars, singers, etc. You can also share some information about your family such as birthday parties and other family events, but don't share very personal information like family problems. You can talk about the news too, but avoid topics on money, age, weight and so on.
Listening is an important part of small talk. Listen carefully to what the other person is saying and ask questions. Don't just talk about yourself. And remember to smile! Making small talk takes practice. The more you do it, the better you'll be at making small talk!
