"Good luck, Rick!" Mom called on the beach as I paddled (划) my kayak (皮艇) into the sea. She was excited to watch me compete in my first kayak fishing competition. I was excited too, but I was also nervous because it was cloudy and the wind was blowing hard.
To win the competition, I would need to catch a big halibut. The winner would win a new kayak. The halibut is a big sea fish, and it can be more than two meters long. I knew how to catch a halibut, but today it would need luck because of the bad weather.
I slowly paddled to an area where 1 had caught halibut before. When I arrived, five players were already there. It wouldn't be the best place.
I continued paddling 1o another area. When 1 got there, I took out my favorite fishing pole(竿). However. I realized that 1 had left all my baits (鱼饵) on the beach.
What could I use? I go1 more nervous. Suddenly, I remembered I had a fake lure (假饵). I threw the lure out and started to wait, After about ten minutes, my fishing pole moved down towards the water suddenly. I could tell this was a big fish!
Hello, I'm David. Last week, I went to an art festival in London with my friend by car. We were very happy because we loved art and we also loved traveling together.
We arrived in London one day before the art festival started. It was hot and sunny there, so we wanted to go camping in the mountains that night. We thought it would be a fun way to enjoy nature and spend time together.
But in the mountains, the weather changed quickly. It started raining very hard not long after we put up our tent. And there was a strong wind. We tried our best to keep the rain out of our tent, but we couldn't, In the end, we bad to leave and take our things to a hotel.
When we got to the hotel, we found that there weren't any rooms for us. Luckily, a nice hotel worker let us sleep in the dining room. We fell asleep quickly because we were so tired.
The next morning, when we woke up, we were happy that it was sunny again.
Our camping trip didn't go as we wanted, but we felt very warm. We said thanks to the hotel worker and learned that we should help each other when things are difficult.
The key to raising a happy child is to allow them to be unhappy.
Parents like to find different ways to make their children happy. But in fact, children know how to find joy, However, happiness isn't an all-the- time feeling. Parents often have trouble accepting that "children can be angry, sad in some ways".
When a child is unhappy, parents often cheer them up. They might offer chocolate cake, or a trip to the park to run around. There's nothing wrong with doing nice things for the child when they're unhappy, but the problem is that parents still don't find out what's making the child sad.
Being scared of feeling bad can cause problems, Kids can be sorry about those feelings, and have thoughts like, "I'm angry. I must be bad. There must be something wrong with me."
That's why parents need to accept that their children can't be happy all the time and that the children need to learn to face those feelings. Parents could ask an unhappy child to talk about their feelings and express (heir understanding.
So it's important to let children know that it's OK to have these bad feelings, and that "Mom or Dad is always there when I 'm unhappy". If they know this and learn to control their feelings, they'll grow up to be strong and successful.
What's a headache? The meaning of the headache is "a pain in the head". It covers the whole head, one side of the head, or maybe the front or the back of the head.
Almost everyone may get headaches. Some people get headaches often or the headaches usually last for a long time. Lots of different things can cause headaches. Most headaches have something to do with watching TV or using the computer for a long time, listening to loud music, being short of sleep or having a long trip in a car. The flu can also cause headaches.
However, you needn't be afraid of headaches. Most headaches will go away if you have a good rest or sleep. When you get a headache, lie down in a quiet room, close your eyes and relax. If your headache doesn't go away or it's really bad, you need to see a doctor. The doctor may ask you when your headache starts, how often it happens, or if you're taking any medicine.
There are also some ways to help you stay away from headaches. For example, you'd better get a good sleep every night, drink enough water every day and eat less cold food. If you can do these things, you may have fewer headaches.
Are kids 100 young to volunteer? l1-year- old American girl Josephine Lavoie shows us that kids can make a difference 10 the lives of others.
Five years ago, Josephine started volunteering by organizing an activity. She collected toys and sent them to kids in a children's hospital, From then on, Josephine began to look for ways to help others. She organized beach or waterway clean-up activities. She also made cards for old people in the old people's homes to cheer them up, She even started a little free library in her town.
Josephine gets her ideas of volunteering from things she learns and people she meets. One recent idea came from her friends. "I have a few friends from foster homes (收养所)." she said.
"Foster kids often don't have much. So I collected clothes, school things and books and put them in nice bags. In this way, the kids will have both new things and bags." Josephine gave the filled bags to at least 400 foster kids.
"Although we are young; we need to give back to the world. Even the smallest things we do can make the world a better place," Josephine says.
