No one will be there to look 2 it. However, the plant inside the house will be safer. 3 I think it will grow bigger. "
The father said,"Let's wait 4 . We will know the answer after some years. "Then the boy left for study. After four years,he came back. He 5 to his father,"Look, nothing happens to this plant inside the house and it is safe. "

There's usually a marathon(马拉松)in my town every autumn. My job is to follow the runners in an ambulance(救护车) to see if they need help. "We just need to 1 the last runner. "I said to the driver,Hugo.
The front﹣runners started to disappear and then I saw a woman in a white T﹣shirt. We knew she was our"last runner". She was 2 so it was almost difficult for her to walk, let alone(更不用说) run a marathon. Hugo and I watched in silence as she 3 moved forward. Finally she was 4 runner left in sight. At that time, tears fell down my face when she 5 to try her best for the last miles.
When we got to the 6 line,a man was still standing straight there. He was holding one end of a ribbon of paper(纸带). She slowly crossed through(飘动) behind 7 . I was moved. 8 the other runners were much faster than her,she kept on running. For her,it wasn't 9 beating the other runners or winning a prize, but about winning what she had started to do. She is a role model to me. When I think things are too difficult,I will think of the"10 ". Then I realize how easy my tasks really are.

At Bright's Zoo in the US,there is a very unusual baby giraffe. What makes this giraffe special? It doesn't have any spots(斑点) at all.
Giraffes are famous for their spots. But this baby giraffe born at Bright's Zoo has no spots at all. Instead, its fur(皮毛) is light brown. It was born perfectly healthy.
David Bright, who runs the zoo, said, the young female giraffe is believed to be the only spotless giraffe in the world.
Giraffes are born quite large. This one isn't quite a year old,but she's already about 2 meters tall. A giraffe's spots appear when the animal is still growing inside its mother. That means this giraffe will never have spots.
To name the giraffe,Mr. Bright's family came up with four possible choices for a name. All of the names are in Swahili,a language spoken in parts of Africa. The zoo also asked people to vote(投票),along with what they mean in English:
Kipekee—"unique";Firyali﹣"unusual";Shakiri﹣"she is the most beautiful",Kipekee was chosen.

Then the White Rabbit saw Alice.
"What are you doing here,Mary Ann?"he asked. "Go home at once and bring me a fan and a pair of white gloves. "
Alice was too afraid to tell him she was not Mary Ann,one of his servants(仆人). So she ran off.
"I'll try and find his fan and gloves,"she thought as she ran.
She soon came to a little house. There was a name on the door,"W. Rabbit. "
She went inside without knocking on the door. "How strange this all is!"she thought. "I am taking something for a rabbit. Perhaps Dinah will ask me to do it for her. "
She ran up the stairs into a little bedroom, and there she found a pair of gloves and a fan. She picked them up and was going to leave the room when she saw a bottle. It was near a looking glass. On the side of the bottle were the words"Drink me. "
"I'll drink some,"Alice thought. "Perhaps it will make me grow again. I'm tired of being so small. "
She quickly drank half the bottle. Before she could get out of the little house, she started to grow. Soon, she was so big
"▲"she thought. "Why didn't I take the bottle with me and drink from it outside the house?"
Alice now had one leg up the chimney(烟因),an arm out of the window, and her head was against the ceiling. She was very uncomfortable.

You may think you cannot live through summer without the air conditioner(空调). But in ancient China, hand fans(扇子)
The use of hand fans by Chinese people can go back to over 2000 years ago. The fans came in different shapes according to people's needs. They were also made of all kinds of things. Palm leaf(棕榈) fans were cheap and easy to make. Feather(羽毛) fans could only be used by the rich. Sandal wood(檀香)
Later, hand fans became far more than just something that cool you down. They developed into artworks among which tuanshan(round fans) and zheshan(folded fans),round fans were usually made of silk. They had beautiful birds and flowers on them. Women, especially those in the palace(诗人) often compared the abandoned fate(被抛弃的命运) to round fans. Nalan Xingde wrote during the Qing Dynasty,"If only life was as beautiful as when we first met,why should the autumn wind bother to pity abandoned painted fans?"
Meanwhile,men,especially the literati(文人)
A small fan can show its beauty in the hand and has played an important role in traditional Chinese art for thousands of years. Today,Chinese people still use these fans. They have already become a symbol of Chinese culture and also a part of our everyday life.
①That future is almost here. "I think it's going to happen. In ten years. . . and hopefully much, much faster,"said Sebastian Thrun in
2021. At that time(公司) Kitty Hawk Corporation was working on developing a flying car known as eVTOL,or Electronic Vertical Take﹣Off and Landing cars.
②Flying to work or school sounds unbelievable. Not only is it fun to fly, but"it would never be crowded again, because the sky is very,"says Thrun. He also thinks eVTOLs could be greener than common cars. "We go much faster,we go in a straight line(能源). "he says.
③So far, though, flying cars haven't come into the market. Will their day come? There are still many problems to work out. Their high price means most people won't be able to buy one. So,many developers are trying to make them self﹣flying﹣no human pilot needed.
④Another problem is space. Most of them need long runways to take off and land. Flying straight up and down like a helicopter(直升机) makes it easy. But eVTOLs still need special spaces, called vertiports, especially in crowded cities. But maybe some could go on top of buildings.
⑤What do you think?Would you enjoy riding to school or visiting a friend in a self﹣flying taxi? Are flying cars a good idea,or should we find other ways to get around in the near future?
