What I did in April to SAVE OUR EARTH:
Week 1—This week, my family tried to use less electricity. We turned off the lights when no one was in the room. We turned off the TV when nobody was watching it. |
Week 2—We started recycling this week. Mom kept plastic shopping bags from the supermarket to use again. |
Week 3—We had short showers. Mom and Dad used less water when they made tea or coffee. My sister and I didn't leave the water running when we brushed our teeth. |
Week 4—Usually my mom drove my sister and I to school. This week we started riding our bikes to school. Dad and a few of the people he works with also started to carpool(拼车) this week. |
We'll finally grow up someday, leaving our parents and facing the challenges in life. Parents may not be able to solve every problem for us. Instead, we should have enough life skills to deal with the problems that we meet. This is what our country tries to do now—helping more students get working spirit.
To stress(强调) the importance of hardworking spirit education among students of different ages, the Communist Party of China Central Committee(中国共产党中央委员会) and the State Council(国务院) released(发布) a guideline(指导纲要) in 2020.
The guideline calls for students to respect work. Students should learn basic(基本的) life skills and form good working habits through such education.
The government has been trying to stress the importance of hardworking spirit education. But this has been overlooked in recent years. Many teenagers do not know the importance of working hard, and they are not interested in doing so.
According to a study of nearly 3,000 students in 25 schools in Hunan last month, only 20 percent of primary and middle school students help with everyday chores around the house.
As children's first teachers, parents should also encourage children to learn how to do chores at home. Students should master one or two life skills every year. These skills can include cooking, washing their own clothes and tidying their rooms.
On a Friday afternoon, 8-year-old Leia and her 5-year-old sister Caroline decided to take a trip in the forest themselves. The family usually took camping trips there on weekends, so it was nothing special. But things changed when the sisters walked too far. Then they got lost.
Although Leia and Caroline were afraid, they remembered all the survival(生存)skills that they learned. Because it was very cold during their first night in the wild, the girls stayed together under a huckleberry bush(越橘灌木) to keep warm. They drank fresh water from huckleberry leaves and Leia told her younger sister to think happy things about their family.
At the same time, their parents became anxious when the children didn't return home before night. They called the police and a team of 250 people soon set out to look for the girls.
The two little girls spent another night in their "huckleberry home" while they waited for help. During the nights, Leia tried to keep themselves away from wild animals while her younger sister slept.
Finally on Sunday afternoon, Leia and Caroline heard people calling their names, and they shouted back, "We're right here!" Everyone was glad to find that the girls were safe!
"I'm trying not to be angry with them,"their mother, Misty Carrico, said. "They have saved themselves. I'm just proud of them. They are both superheroes(超级英雄)!"
Money may not buy happiness, but it helps. Many teenagers want to learn how to manage(管理) money before going out into the world. Dr.Mara Harvey, a money expert, comes up with the idea that teenagers should learn how to be smart with their money.
Learn to make money.
Ask parents or neighbors if you can do chores to make pocket money(零用钱). You should try to agree on the value(价值) of different jobs before start them. In this way, you can also improve your communication skills, which will help a lot when you have a grown-up job, too.
Help your money grow.
Put your money in the bank and you can get interest(利息) . Save your money for a lo ne time. One day you may feel surprised at how much money you have.
Make a plan.
If you have a big event such as a holiday coming up, it might mean you will need to spend more of your pocket money. So try making a plan for spending and saving. You can write down how much money you have and what you are spending. Then it will help you take control of your money.
You should know how much you can reasonably spend each month.Spend your money on what you really need. Then try to cut down on spending. For example, instead of eating out, you can choose to cook at home.
A. Spend your money wisely(智慧地).
B. The followingis some of her advice.
C. Money can't grow if it's sitting inside a piggy bank(储钱罐).
D. These could include washing a car or taking the dog for a walk.
E. Ask your parents for help.
An old man was fishing on the bank of a river. A 1 came to see him fishing. The old man was a really 2 fisherman(渔夫) and it didn't take long for him to catch many fish. The old man saw that the child was very cute, and he wanted to3 her some of his fish. But the child shook(摇) her head. The old man was4 and asked, "Why don't you want the fish?"
The child 5 , "I want the fishing rod(竿) in your hands."
The old man asked, "Why do you want the rod?"
"It doesn't take long to eat all the fish you give me. But if I have the fishing rod, Ican go fishıng by 6 and I won't be afraid of not having any more fish to eat."
I think you will 7 say that the child is very smart. Wrong! If she doesn't know 8 to fish, she can not have fish to eat, even though she has the fishing rod. It's useless to only have a fishing rod 9 fishing skılls are the most important, not the fishing rod.
Too many people think that if they have a"fishing rod"in their life, they will 10 the wind and rain anymore. They are just like the child, who thought that if she had a fishing rod, she would have fish to eat.
Nowadays, young people are always wanting their parents to know they love them, but they often have problems in (show) their love in a direct(直接的)way. Maybe they are just too shy to say"I love you". How about doing it quietly? Here is some advice from some (teenager).
Leave notes(便条)
What about leaving note for your parents on the table? They'll be happy to see it. " it is easy to do, it means a lot." said Lin Yuan, a 13-year-old girl. "I (write) short notes for my parents since I was a first-grade student. They love reading them."
Give an unexpected gift
A surprise gift provides a chance to say "I love you". An unexpected gift doesn't have to be expensive. "I once bought 6 roses on Mother's Day. They led the road to my home from the first stair. My mom liked it so much and jumped (happy)."
A junior high school girl shared (she) experience.
Do housework
If your parents usually clean the kitchen, why not do it and surprise them? It's a good way to show your love by helping out chores. "Doing housework together is one of the 54. (important) things for a happy family. Besides, it can develop our (independent)." He Zheng, an 18-year-old boy said with a smile.
The Globe Theater(环球剧场) in London is very famous because people can see most of William Shakespeare's plays there. It has a history of more than four hundred years. At that time, the theater was an open air playhouse. Shakespeare wrote many plays for it. There were three floors in the theater. It had about 3,000 seats. The poor watched the darma in a pit. What was a pit? It was a place around the stage(舞台). Its tickets were cheaper. People could pay only a penny to stand there to watch a drama.59. The seats on the third floor were for rich people because the tickets were much more expensive.
In 1613, a fire damaged(毁坏) the theater. Later, people repaired(修复) it for some time. In 1977, a new globe theater came out. 60.它和旧的那个一样大。 There is also a shopping center there. You can do some shopping before the plays start or after the plays end.
