Emergencies don't happen very often. But when they do , you want to get help first. No one wants to spend time looking up the phone numbers.
In 1968, the Untied States government wanted one number that people could call for emergencies. They decided that 911 was easy to remember and people could dial it quickly. The very first 911 call was made on February 16, 1968. in Alabama. Today, 911 is used for emergencies in most parts of the United States and many parts of Canada.
Other countries may use other numbers. In Great Britain, it's 999. If you're not sure which emergency number is used in your area, check your phone book.
When to call
Never call 911 as a joke or just to see what might happen. The only time you should call 911 is when a person is badly hurt in danger right now!So call when there is a fire, a car accident, or sudden sickness, etc.
When in an emergency call
When you dial the 911 operator(接线员),it's always OK to give out your information. Speak slowly and clearly when you explain what's happening. What happened? Where are you? Who needs help?
Don't hang up(挂断)!
If you have to call 911, do not hang up until the operator tells you it's OK to do so, That way, you can be sure that the operator has all the information to offer help fast.
A dog named Faith dialed 911 when her owner who was in a wheelchair fell and needed help. She had been taught to use a speed dial(快递拨号)function.
The story was a true one and still moved me deeply. Thirty years ago, I got to know a 1 lady named Rose. She had no kids and lived alone. When I went to visit her, I always took Rose some coffee and food. One day she said she wanted to2 me to have hunch.
We walked from my work place to a little restaurant on David Street. On the way, I began to worry. I knew that she had no money, but if I offered(提供) to 3 the lunch,I was afraid I would hurt her.
There were many people in the restaurant and all of them were happy. Rose told me to sit and drink coffee by the window. Then she went to 4 in the kitchen. After about 20 minutes, she came out and sat with me. She just paid for one meal and we started to 5 the delicious food together. She told me that the restaurant let people work for a meal if they had no money, or would give them a free meal if they were not able to work. To my surprise, she also explained that the workers who were working there were all volunteers. I 6 remember the beautiful afternoon I shared with Rose. Though we had a meal together only once, it was paid by Rose's work. The weather was warm and bright, and everyone's smile was warm and bright too.
I'm still thinking that life cannot be easy to us, but we can still do something for our friends and neighbors. The world will be nicer if everybody would like to share happiness with others. It will never be dark if there is a light in everyone's heart.
What is the difference between happy people and unhappy people? What are the things that these people so differently? Read the following list of things that HAPPY people do differently from UNHAPPY people and you will k.
Well, I can tell you for sure that those people who are r happy, FEAR less and LOVE a lot more. They see each moment, each challenge, each person as an opportunity to discover more about themselves and the world around them. They are ready to hug whatever lies in front of them.
Happy people understand that you can't really c a situation by resisting it. But they can feel better by understanding that there might be a reason for its existence.
When something unpleasant happens to them, they don't try to fight it , knowing that this will make the situation even w. But rather, they ask themselves questions like: What can I learn from this? How can I make this better? They always seem to be pleasant and hopeful no matter what happens to them.
They do the things they do because of the meaning it brought into their lives and because they get a sense of purpose by doing so. They understand that "Doing w you love is the most important for living a full life". They care more about living a life full of meaning rather than, what in our modern society we would call, living a successful life. The fact here is that most of the time they get both s and meaning, just because they choose to focus on doing the things they love the most.
The things happy people do are not for themselves, but for the good of others. They make sure that their actions bring meaning and happiness in the lives of many. They look for w to give and to share the best of themselves with the world and to make other people happy.
Have you ever recycled? To recycle is to take rubbish and make it into something new. Recycling is good for our planet because it makes junk into something that we can use again. Recycling also helps to clean up the litter that makes our streets look dirty.
All kinds of things can be recycled. The most common materials like glass, plastic, paper, metals, cloth are all recyclable. Sometimes these products are broken down to make the same kinds of products(产品). An example of this type of recycling is using paper to make more paper. Rubbish can also be broken down to make completely new items as well!
Some items, like glass, can be recycled forever! We can use glass items, then break them down and use them again and again. Aluminum(铝)cans are one of the most successful recycled metals. They can be recycled again and again and nearly 60% of all aluminum cans have been recycled.
The average family of four can produce nearly 2, 000 pounds of rubbish each year. As time goes on, we have fewer places to put all of this rubbish in. Recycling is one way to limit(限制)the amount of rubbish we need to put into the land.
The next time you toss a can or bottle into the rubbish can, look to see if there is a recycling triangle on the label. It is the international sign for recycling. It means that the item you are going to throw in the dustbin could be recycled.
