It was pleasure that mattered. No one had the slightest thought of moving14either for themselves or for the town. The computers they used 15old methods from the town of Pressure.
Some of the young were addicted to 16because of the emptiness of their lives. Then, people in the two towns began asking themselves. “What is life17?” But just before life in the two towns completely failed, there came a great person—Mr. Reason. He went from door to door,18 with people and giving advice. People in Pressure learnt to be content with what they had, while people in Pleasure began to make plans. They 19the wall between them and built a road to connect the two. The towns' people 20 to realize the truth—there is no gap between Pressure and Pleasure if they don't go to extremes.
Qibao Ancient Village
Qibao, located in the center of Minhang District, Shanghai, is a village with a history of one thousand years. In the village, wine and tea are served on old-fashioned square tables together with long benches, long-mouth copper pots and flat-end chopstick used. For many people who live in cities, parks are an important landscape. They provide a place for people to relax and play sports, as well as a shelter from the often severe environment of a city. What people often overlook is that parks also provide considerable environmental benefits.
One benefit of parks is that plants absorb carbon dioxide and give off oxygen. According to one study, an acre of trees can absorb the same amount of carbon dioxide that a typical car emits in 11,000 miles of driving. Parks also make cities cooler. Scientists have long noted what is called the Urban Heat Island Effect: building materials such as metal and concrete (混凝土) absorb much more of the sun's heat and release it much more quickly than trees and grass. Because city landscapes contain so much of these building materials, cities are usually warmer than surrounding rural areas. Parks and other green spaces help to lessen the Urban Heat Island Effect.
Unfortunately, many cities cannot easily create more parks. However, cities could benefit from many of the positive effects of parks by encouraging citizens to create another type of green space: rooftop gardens. While most people would not think of starting a garden on their roof, human beings have been planting gardens on rooftops for thousands of years. Some rooftop gardens are simple container gardens that anyone can create with the investment (投资) of a few hundred dollars and a few hours of work.
Rooftop gardens provide many of the same benefits as other urban parks and garden spaces, but without taking up the much-needed land. In the summer, rooftop gardens prevent buildings from absorbing heat from the sun, which can significantly reduce cooling bills. In the winter, gardens help control the heat that materials like brick and concrete release so quickly, leading to savings on heating bills. Rooftop vegetables and herb gardens can also provide fresh food for city settlers, making their diets healthier. Rooftop gardens are not only something everyone can enjoy but also a smart environmental investment.
Australian scientists are trying to give kangaroo-style stomachs to cattle and sheep in order to cut the greenhouse gases they send out, which is thought to be responsible for global warming.
Thanks to special bacteria in their stomachs, kangaroo flatulence (肠胃气胀) contains no methane and scientists want to transfer that bacteria to cattle and sheep who produce large quantities of the harmful gas.
While the usual image of greenhouse gas pollution is a billowing smokestack, pushing out carbon dioxide, farm animals' passing wind contribute a surprisingly high percentage of total emissions in some countries.
“Fourteen percent of emissions from all sources in Australia are from enteric methane from cattle and sheep,” said Athol Klieve, a senior research scientist with the greensland state government. “And if you look at another country such as New Zealand, which has got a much higher agricultural base, they are actually up around 50 percent,” he said.
Researchers say the bacteria also make the digestive process much more efficient and could potentially save millions of dollars in feed costs for farmers. But it will take researchers at least three years to isolate the bacteria before they can even start to develop a way of transferring it to cattle and sheep.
Another group of scientists, meanwhile, have suggested Australians should farm fewer cattle and sheep and just eat more kangaroos. And about 20 percent of health-conscious Australians are believed to eat the national symbol already.
It's low in fat, it's got high protein levels and it is very clean in the sense that basically it is free-range(放养的) animal,” said Peter Ampt of the University of New South Wales' institute of environmental studies.
How many girls in this world fall behind? The answer is hard—too many to count. This is why the phrase “Go Get It Girl” popped up in my head one day. This would be my project. Thus begins the journey of my Cold Award project, the largest and most important step of Girl Scouts (女童子军).
“Go Get It Girl” is a girl's self-empowerment (自我授权) project centered on a website called gogetitgirl.org. It focuses on areas including education, health, and financial literacy. The education section includes information on applying to college and, maintaining good grades. The health section contains information on basic health and self-respect. Lastly, the financial literacy section has all the information a girl needs to manage her money properly.
As part of my project, I was able to work one-on-one with girls in elementary, middle, and high school. I gave a speech at a local high school's College Night. I spoke to Hispanic girls and their parents about applying to college. In addition, I worked with an organization called Cool Girls, Inc. Cool Girls is an organization focused on the advancement of girls in all aspects of their development. I worked at the afterschool program, Cool Girls Club. The girls I worked with were primarily minorities, and Cool Girls truly helps them to rise above any current difficulties in their lives.
To provide inspiration for the girls who visit gogetitgirl.org, I interviewed successful women in my community, including a doctor and business owner.
The project has been a lot of work, arid it's not over yet. It will never be over, hopefully, because I will always look for ways to help girls.

Started in September of 2003, smile cards began appearing all around a world. They are marker of a brand new game of tag, where "you're it" because someone has done anything nice for you. Then it's your turn to do something nice for someone else but, in the process, pass the card along. This was a game of pay-it-forward: make someone smile without giving out the name, leave behind a card ask them to keep it going. It's easy and funny. Is kindness truly contagious? While thousands of college students headed for warm climate to enjoy sun and fun during their week off from classes, seven local students had other plans.
The Northern Essex Community College (NECC) students and one of their teachers spent part of their spring break in New York City, helping repair an area (destroy) by the hurricane.
“I wanted to see for myself what happened,” said Terry. “I couldn't imagineit is like to lose your home and everything that you know and the(power) effect the hurricane had on those people. I wanted to do something, to understand their feeling of helplessness.”
The group headed into Brooklyn's Red Hook district, which was hit hard by the hurricane. There they met people from other parts of the country,had also volunteered to help. Together, those volunteers and the NECC students(work) to clear rubbish out of a three-story building. They put on protective suits and glovesthey entered the building.
Inside the building, the students saw nothing but broken walls and doors and pieces of the building (lie) all over the place.
The students returned to school withsense of achievement, a feeling thathelped people in need. I was remarkable how a community lost so much and was still able to recover, and this left the deepest impressionthe students.
