Rhoda: “I can't enjoy a book or a movie anymore because when I get to the middle, I can't remember the beginning.”(a 67-year-old woman with Alzheimer's disease)
Jane: “Sometimes I'm going to someplace. Then I don't remember where I'm going to.” (a 74-year-old woman with Alzheimer's disease)
Does someone you love say things like this? He or she may have Alzheimer's disease. Please listen… We can help. Twenty-six million people in the world have Alzheimer's disease. People with Alzheimer's disease can't remember things. First, they forget what they're doing. Then they forget how to drive or cook. Then they get lost, even in their own neighborhood. Then they lose their memories. They forget what they did yesterday or last week. Later, they don't remember their friends and relatives. Many people with Alzheimer's lose their friends. They feel lonely, like Sarah, a 68-year-old woman. Sarah told us, “My friends don't visit me anymore. When people know you have Alzheimer's, you will never see them again.”
Doctors have no way for Alzheimer's, but in the Alzheimer's Organization, our psychologists(心理学家) are trying to help. We have support groups. Anyone with Alzheimer's disease can join our support groups. The support group members get together with a psychologist. They talk with the psychologist and with each other. They help each other. They make new friends in the group. Then they don't feel so lonely anymore. So, if you have a friend or a relative with Alzheimer's disease, please call us today. We can help.
Trees are one of the oldest plants of our Earth. They keep our air clean, cut down noise pollution, improve water quality and give food and building materials.
Just like us, trees change a lot as they grow. At 1 to 3 years old, young trees learn how to protect themselves. For example, many trees grow thorns(刺) to tell animals not to go near. Most young trees have large, deep green leaves so that they can catch enough sunlight and change it into their food and energy.
When trees are 4 years old, they begin to grow very quickly and become strong enough to face challenges. At the age of 15, trees become young adults. They grow more slowly and bear flowers and fruit.
It is not until the tree is 20 to 25 years old that it becomes a real adult. The tree reaches its largest size. The adult tree gives us shade, oxygen and natural beauty. It is also a great place for a tree house, or a place for us to read a book, listen to music and so on. If we take good care of the adult tree, it will go on to live for many years.
Gradually, trees begin to grow older and older and even die. At this time, they still have their important place in nature. When a tree becomes hollow(空心的) or part of it becomes dead, it gives a home to small animals and food to many other animals.
In many ways, the life of a tree is similar to our own life experience. When we are looking at the life of a tree, we learn about that ▲ . So, let's enjoy every minute and face the challenges in life bravely!
①Grow very quickly ②Become a real adult ③Grow thorns
④Grow older and die ⑤Bear flowers and fruit
Because of the outbreak of the COVID-19, many people are wearing masks to make themselves healthy. It's a very simple but useful way to protect people from lots of harmful things. In fact, masks have been helping humans for centuries.
1st century
At that time, many people in Roman Empire worked underground. But most of them died of respiratory(呼吸的)illnesses. To solve this problem, a Roman advised people to use animal skins to stop dust. His idea was considered the very first recorded mask invention.
16th century
Early inventions did not stop. Many centuries later, an Italian suggested using clothes which were wet over the face to protect against the infection(传染).
19th century
In 1897, a doctor called Johann designed a simple mask composed of one layer(层)of gauze(纱布),asking medical workers to wear it to stop infection. That was the first recorded use of a surgical(外科的)mask.
20th century
In 1910, a disease(疾病)broke out in Northeast China. Chinese doctor Wu Liande made a cheap face mask called "Wu's mask". Made of two layers of surgical gauze, it was praised by experts around the world, because it was simple to make and had a low production cost.
Modern exploration
With some outbreaks of diseases and the rise of environmental pollution caused by much waste, the materials in masks have continued to evolve(进化)to better protect its wearer. For example, when facing smog, mask models such as N95 and KN90 became highly popular. In the future, mask will continue to improve, hopefully so will the habits of humans.

My friend Michelle is blind, but you'd never know it. She makes such good use of her other senses, including her “sixth sense”, that she hardly gives the impression that she 1anything.
Michelle looks after her children pretty much like the rest of us, 2that she doesn't put too much pressure on them. She knows when to clean the house, and she moves around 3 fast that the strangers often don't realize she's blind.
I realized this the first time after my six-year-old daughter, Kayla, went to play there. When Kayla came home, she was very 4 about her day. She told me they had baked cookies, played games and done art projects. But she was especially excited about5 finger-painting project.
“Mom, guess what?” said Kayla, all smiles. “I learned how to6 colors today! For example, blue and red make purple, and yellow and blue make green! And Michelle painted with us.” To my great7, my child had learned about color from a blind friend! Then Kayla continued, “Michelle told me my 8 showed joy, pride and a sense of success. She really9 what I was doing!” Kayla said she had never felt how interesting the finger-paints were10 Michelle showed her how to paint without looking at her paper.
I realized Kayla didn't know that Michelle was blind. It had just never11 in conversation. When I told my daughter that Michelle was blind, she was quiet for a moment. At first, she didn't believe me. “But Mommy, Michelle knew exactly12was in my picture!” Kayla insisted. And I knew my child was13 because Michelle had listened to Kayla describe her art work. Michelle had also heard Kayla's pride in her14 excitedly.
We were silent for a minute. Then Kayla said slowly, “You know, Mommy, Michelle really did 'see' my picture. She just used my15.”
Indeed, she uses a special type of “vision” that all mothers have.
How to be green
How green are you? Answer these questions and find out.
Do you walk or ride a bike to school?
Do you turn off the lights when you leave the room?
Do you buy drinks in bottles? And what do you do the bottles when they are empty?
We all need a (health) environment, but we produce waste every day. It is harmful to (we) environment. Repeat these three words daily: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. “Re”means “again”. It is one of (important) things to be green.
Reduce means “use less”. Do not waste things. Do not order more foodyou can finish. Turn off the lights when you do not need them. Before you buy something new, thinkit is really necessary or not because maybe the old one is just as good!
Reuse means “use again”. Use(thing) for as long as possible. Look after them so that they will last. Repair them if possible. Do not throw them away and buy new ones at once. It's better (use) china(陶瓷) cups and cloth bags because they can be used many times.
Recycle means “change things into something else”. Although it takes energy, it's better than throwing them away. So far, we(throw) tons of rubbish away in our daily life, and we have to make a change from now on. Develop a recycling policy for the whole. Buy products such as recycled paper to help save trees.
We cannot hope forrapid change, but let's take the simple steps today for our future.
