When the young donkey Daisy May came to us, she was pregnant. With no donkey experience. I was unprepared for what might come next.
After some difficulty,Daisy's baby was born. I thought the poor thing was dead. I planned to put the loss behind us and make sure she never got pregnant again. Just then, I heard a little noise. I couldn't believe that baby was breathing and looking at me! We called him Samson, and of course I became his mother as much as Daisy was.
When Samson was nine months old, I had to separate Daisy and Samson for a few hours a day to wean(使断奶)him, but otherwise he went wherever she did. I think she would be lost without him. His donkey stepdad Bernard taught him to always be ready to have fun. They enjoy playing football together and going for a roll on a hot summer day.
I asked a worker to make a harness(马具)for my three little donkeys. When I brought it home I taught them one by one how to pull a cart. Samson watched and freely followed Daisy. When he was three, I put the harnness on him and he knew exactly what to do.
That was 15 years ago. Now, the most exciting thing about Samson is that he has become a little renowned. People come from all over to see him perform. The neighbors bring their grandchildren, and my sons bring their friends.
Samson shakes hands, unties my shoe, picks up a hat and more. And when I ask him if he has any bad habits, he tries to pick my pocket! He surprisingly learned these tricks himself. I just ask him to do them and he understands.
The relationship I have with my "baby" Samson has been an amazing experience. Every day is a fun day with this superstar donkey.
When first entered, Vanak Restaurant does not look like much of a restaurant, but once the pleasant smells of kabob(烤肉串)hit the senses, you are incapable of calling it anything less.
Owned by a local couple, this Persian restaurant has an inviting, homelike atmosphere that many restaurants lack.
The space is small with only a few dining tables and nearly no decoration, but the environment is truly charming.
Lying in a hardly noticeable street corner, the restaurant still attracts all customers, especially those experienced in the delights of Middle Eastern cooking.
A common sight is that of old Persian men sitting in the corner talking loudly about world topics, watching news events on TV, drinking a black tea known as Persian chai, and reading local Persian newspapers all the while trying to finish off their plates piled with food.
The variety of food at the restaurant is limited, but the amount of each dish is fairly large. Most of the meals can serve two people and are under $10, so not only is it affordable but practical as well.
The food, especially appeals to health-conscious eaters because each dish is very healthy, made with limited fat and oil and served straight off the grill (烤肉架).
The main dish that the restaurant is popular for is its kabobs, which are different style of grilled meat.
One delicious and extremely healthy dish is the Joojeh Kabob, which is made of grille chicken pieces served with either rice or bread. Another great kabob is the Cbelo Kabob, kabob consisting of grilled beef.
Although the restaurant is small, the atmosphere and the food is delicious. It is a place that should not be overlooked.
It is said that many brain training products is able to keep us mentally fit. Some products even claim that brain training can prevent dementia (痴呆) in old age. Many such products are only money-making rubbish. Also, there is no scientific proof that games or other brain exercises can have this effect. That is what the German Institute for Quality and Efficiency in Health Care (IQWiG) pointed out.
As we get older, our thinking gets slower and it is harder for us to learn new things. Many people try to stay mentally fit by, for example, learning a new language or doing crossword puzzles. Computer games that aim to keep the brain active are also becoming increasingly popular. "Doing exercises like trying to find symbols on a computer screen as fast as possible can actually improve your reaction time," explains Professor Peter Sawicki, the Institute's Director. "But scientific studies have shown that brain training only leads to an improvement in one aspect that it is aimed at. So if you learn to find symbols quickly, it does not mean that you will be able to improve your memory."
Research has not shown that brain training can keep up or enhance (加强) people's overall (全面的) mental abilities as commonly thought. "So there is no need to feel bad if you do not enjoy brain training: there are no health reasons for doing it," says Sawicki. "But if you think brain training exercises are interesting, you can try out different things. For example, completing the order of letters can improve your logic skills. And practicing word association techniques can help you to remember things better. You can do all of these things at home on your own."

If you start to use your e-mail several times a week, your message box will soon fill with mail. After a few weeks, you can have a list of 60 or 70 messages! It is easy to delete the messages you don't want anymore. If your messages are important, you can save them in folders. It only takes a few minutes to learn.
A. Organize your e-mail.
B. It's cheaper than a phone call.

You may have heard of Osceola McCarty, who worked for 75 years as a washer woman. After she retired, she went to the bank and 1, to her surprise, that her small monthly savings had 2to over $150,000. She donated $150,000 to the USM for a scholarship fund for students with financial3.
What you have not heard is how Osceola's gift has4 my life. I was a 5student and I had my heart set on going to USM. But I 6 a regular scholarship by one point on my entrance exams, and a scholarship was the only way I could attend. One Sunday, I 7 the story about Osceola and her generous 8in the newspaper, and went to the financial aid office and became the first9 of an Osceola Scholarship.
I first 10Osceola at a press conference—meeting her was like finding family. Osceola11married and lived alone, so my family has since become her family. My grandma and she talk 12 on the phone and she13us in family gatherings. It was amazing that I used to cycle right by a 14every day on my way to school and I did notice how everything was clean and neat there, but I didn't know it15to be where she lived.
Osceola gave me much more than a scholarship. She taught me about the gift of 16. She worked her whole life and gave to others, which reached deep inside of me and fueled my 17 to give back when I can. Eventually I plan to add to her scholarship fund. I want to give Osceola the18she's always wanted, so I've adopted her as another grandma. And when I graduate from USM, she'll be sitting in the audience 19my mother and my grandmother—right where she 20.
Australia was always a country I wanted to visit so I saved up some money and (take) the plane for Australia at end of the school term.
It was strange when I arrived. It was the start of winter! Happily for me the weather was still hot and sunny though. also took me a while to get used to the time difference.
The country is ( true) beautiful, full of wildlife you wouldn't find anywhere else in the world. I visited a koala sanctuary (考拉保护区) in Brisbane — there were koalas everywhere (sleep) in the trees and I even got the chance (hold) one. I learnt lots of (fact) about koalas, too. For example, koalas can sleep for up to 22 hours a day. At the sanctuary there were also kangaroos (袋鼠) that we (allow) to feed. They were really cute and friendly.
Another exciting part of my trip was snorkelling (潜泳) in the Great Barrier Reef, as the water was very clear and blue. I was also lucky to see some (interest )sea animals.
I loved visiting everywhere from the beautiful mountains and waterfalls in the National Parks the long white sandy beaches. It's a beautiful country and worth visiting one day if you ever get the chance.
