Today is a nice day. Jill and Jim's mom isn't at home in the morning. She works in a shoe shop and she has to handle (处理) some problems. She can't cook lunch for her kids. Jim wants to have some bread, but Kill doesn't like it.
"How about cooking new food?" Jill says. "It's a good idea. You can have a try. We have apples, oranges and bananas at home, so we can eat some," Jim says.
Jill finds some rice, some eggs and two tomatoes. She has a good idea. "I can cook tomato and egg rice for you, Jim. It's very easy," she says to Jim.
They have lunch at 12:00 pm. Jim thinks their food tastes delicious. Jill is happy to know her brother likes the food. Then they do their homework and play games.
At 5:00 pm, their morn gets back home. She's glad that Jill and Jim have a good lunch. "Great!" she says. "You can look after yourselves when I'm out. That's a good thing."
A man was busy repairing his new car. His 4-year-old son picked up a stick(树枝) and scratched(划) on the side of the car. Without even asking what his son was doing, the man beat the son angrily.
The child cried. The father soon found that his son couldn't move his fingers. He took him to a hospital at once. At the hospital, a doctor told the father that the child would lose all of his fingers. However, when the child saw his father's sad eyes, he said, "Dad, I'll be better soon." The man felt even sadder after hearing his son's words and he couldn't speak a word.
After he went back home, he walked over to his car. He sat down next to his car and noticed the scratches: "DAD, I LOVE YOU" on the car. He began to know that his son loved him so much at that time.
Sometimes being angry can cause a bad result in our life. You'd better think before you act.
It rained and the wind blew hard. A four-month dog remembered it was always warm and fine here. But now, Hurricane(飓风) Maria came to this city. Trees fell down and he could hear people crying.
Two days later, the sun finally came out. But he was too hungry to stand, and then he heard a kind voice. "Oh, poor baby. Let me take you home! My name is Will," a boy said. He didn't believe Will because he thought humans were all bad. However, he was so tired that he couldn't bark (吠) at this boy.
Will took him home and made a bed for him with Mrs. Sanchez. They gave him a bowl of clean water and Mrs. Sanchez prepared some dog food for him. With a fully (肚子) and a clean body, he licked Will's hand. "I think he likes me," Will said. "What should we name him?"
"How about Storm? You met him after such special weather," Mrs. Sanchez answered.
Storm then started to believe and love people!
Just like food or water, sleep is also important in our life. The easiest way to help you keep healthy is just to sleep eight hours or more every night.
Sleep is more important than you may think. As a middle school student, you're usually busy every day. You have to go to school, play with friends, go to sports practice or other activities, and do your homework. By the end of the day, your body needs a good rest. Sleep helps your body get ready for the next day.
In China, many students don't get enough sleep. That's not good for their health. So China's Ministry of Education decided to do something. It says primary school students should go to bed before 9:20 pm, middle school students should go to bed before 10:00 pm and the time should be 11:00 pm for high school students.
To have a good sleep, you may follow the advice.
●Go to bed at the same time every night.
●Don't have a TV in your room.
●Don't exercise just before going to bed. Do exercise in the morning or in the afternoon—it helps you sleep better.
●Use your bed just for sleeping—not doing homework, playing games, or talking on the phone.
Mr. Green was driving his car to visit a friend in another city. On the way, he got into an accident and his car ran into a small pool. Mr. Green tried to pull (拉) the car out of the pool, but, he couldn't. He didn't know what to do. Luckily, a farmer happened to ride on a strong horse to come over. He called the horse Buddy.
The farmer took Buddy up to the car and shouted out, "Pull, Nellie, pull!" Buddy didn't move at all.
Then the farmer shouted again, "Pull, Buster, pull!" Buddy still didn't move.
Once more, the farmer cried out, "Pull, Coco, pull!" But the horse wouldn't move.
Then the farmer quietly said, "Pull, Buddy, pull!" After hearing his name, the horse tried his best and easily pulled the car out of the pool.
Mr. Smith thanked a lot and felt curious (好奇的). He asked the farmer why he called his horse by the wrong name many times.
The farmer said, "Oh, Buddy is blind. If he thought that he was the only one pulling, he wouldn't even try!"
