I'm Mustafa, a new student from Turkey. Everybody knew1country had the same name of a bird that Americans eat at Thanksgiving. That was exactly my2.
A boy, named Brodie, said "Gobble-gobble" and laughed with other classmates on my first day at school. I knew3he did that. "Gobble" is the sound a turkey makes.
In P.E. class, Coach Stephens told us that we were going to play4. I had never heard of the word "soccer". But when Coach held up a soccer ball, I became5. In Turkey, we said "football". That was what I was good at. Then, the two team leaders started to choose team members. However, I was the last one to be6. Last! In Turkey, I was the best in my team! "I'll put you in the game later," my team leader Olivia said. "After we have the lead."
7being disappointed, I accepted the fact and walked to the rest area. After a while, I decided to8and get ready for the game in case they needed me. I kneed a ball up, and then it bounced(弹跳)three times above my head before letting it drop to the ground. I was so concentrated(专心)that I didn't9Olivia asked for a stop.
"Come on in, I didn't know you're such a good player." Olivia said to me. She put me in the game and immediately passed the ball to me. "It's 1:1, and time is running out. We need to score10."
The game went on.11came out directly to meet me. It's Brodie! "Gobble-gobble," he said. "This is going to be like taking candy from a baby. It's so12." I didn't give him any attention. I passed the ball to Olivia. She kicked. The ball hit Brodie's knee and went upwards. I kicked it strongly, sending it13the far corner of the goal.
"Game over! Red wins: 2 to 1!" Coach said. All my team members stood up and14.
"I'm sorry for what I did." Brodie stepped slowly towards me, "You're good. I think your goal is worth my15."
I smiled back. There were never any more "gobbles".

It's a cold, grey Sunday afternoon in March. The British are all working in their gardens. They're digging, cutting leaves and planting new seeds(种子). By summer, their gardens will be full of bright colors.
The British love their gardens. A British newspaper recently asked people for their opinions about them. Around 70% of the people felt it was important to spend time in the garden, and over 50% of these described gardening as the most enjoyable thing they ever did.
Only one in ten houses in Britain do not have a garden. People who live in houses without gardens often rent(租用) land from the government.
At first, only very rich people had gardens. You can still see the gardens around houses with a long history, such as Chatsworth House or Castle Howard. In the early twentieth century, however, gardening became a hobby. People bought different kinds of seeds and plants for their gardens. Although roses, sunflowers and tomatoes are often grown in British gardens, they originally(起初) grew wild in other countries.
Every year, there are competitions for the largest vegetables, but don't expect to win:Britain's biggest carrot is almost six metres long.
YOU are on your way home after school. Suddenly, you see a man lying on the road. He is badly injured but the ambulance (急救车) hasn't come yet, what would you do? Middle school students in Louisville, US, would give the man a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR, 心肺复苏). It is a type of first aid. That is because they learn CPR in class.
Louisville started the CPR Anytime program months ago. The program teaches middle school students CPR with face and lung dummies (仿制品) and DVDs in class. "We know CPR can help save people's lives," said Joseph Laskowski, who works for the program. "The more people can use CPR, the more injured people can get help. And we know that the best way to teach CPR skills to everyone is to build it into our school."
Through the program, students learn and practice the CPR skills on a dummy while watching a DVD. Each student can also take back home a set of faces and lung bag dummies so that they can use them to share CPR with family and friends.
Shawna Jackson is a 12-year-old student at Lassiter Middle School in Louisville. In one class, she learned to press down on a dummy and do chest compressions (压缩). She said that she found CPR was very difficult the first time she tried it, but now she feels "it's quite easy."
Jackson is very glad that she has learned this important skill for saving people's lives. "If I'm somewhere and I see someone who is injured, I can help him or her until the ambulance arrives," said Jackson.
Once upon a time there was a happy paper doll that had no face. His whole body was perfectly cut out and painted, except for his face. However, he had a pencil so he could choose whatever face he wanted to have. How lucky! He then spent all day asking everyone he met, "What's a perfect face like?"
"One with a big beak (鸟嘴)." answered the birds.
"No. Not one with a beak," said the trees. "The perfect face is full of leaves."
"Forget the beak and the leaves," said the flowers. "If you want a perfect face, you fill it with colors."
The doll followed their advice. However, it turned out that nobody liked it. And now he couldn't erase it! "I only wanted a face that everyone would like," he cried. "And now look, what a disaster (灾难)!"
A small cloud heard his cries and came to him, " I think I can help you. As I'm a cloud, I can make any face you like. What do you think about me changing faces until there's one that you like? I'm sure we can fix you a little bit."
The doll again felt hopeful. The cloud made all kinds of faces for him. But none of them was perfect enough.
"Never mind," said the doll. "you've been a great friend." He gave her a big hug and the cloud smiled from ear to ear, happy at having helped. Just then the doll cried excitedly, "That's it! That's the face I want! It's a perfect face!"
"Which one?" asked the cloud. "But I haven't done anything."
"Yes, yes you have! It's that face you make when I hug you!"
The cloud finally realized that he was talking about her big smile. And together they took the pencil and drew the paper doll a big smile, ten times better than beaks, colors and leaves. And that face was indeed the only one that everyone liked because it had the secret ingredient (成分) for perfect faces: a big smile that could never be erased.

Rather than choosing a well-paid job, Wang Xi, a graduate of Tsinghua University, has chosen a job that few would like to take.
Wang is the founder of VLOOP, which aims to (鼓励) people to use recyclable plastic bags in the express delivery industry(快递业).
"In 2018 alone, about 24 billion plastic bags were used as express delivery packaging," said Wang. "(几乎) all the plastic bags ended up as waste, which caused a huge (数量) of pollution."
During her college years, Wang visited places where rubbish was sorted out and processed in Beijing. In the (接下来的) years, she went on to receive education(教育) at Georgetown (大学) in the US.
After coming back in 2016, Wang didn't (匆忙) to look for a well-paid job. Instead, she started paying attention to the plastic waste problem caused by China's fast-growing express delivery market.
At the end of 2016, she set up VLOOP. She hopes people use the plastic bag that can be (重复利用) 30 to 50 times. And after the bag's lifecycle has ended, it can be recycled.
In the beginning, Wang found it hard to persuade(说服) customers to accept the recyclable bags.
(比较) with single-use bags which are free, the recyclable ones cost 0.5 yuan each. (另外), users are required to pay 2 yuan if they don't return the bag in time.
Although there are lots of (困难) ahead, Wang believes that her efforts will pay off one day.
Dear myself,
Life is scary. One day you wake up feeling like you can take over the world, and the next day you wake up feeling like all you want to do is lie in bed and hide from everything.
People walk into your life, take your hand and (lead) you along the most beautiful road you've known, but sometimes same people let go of your hand without warning, and leave you at a place where you never thought you'd feel lost. Sometimes everything is going so great and it seems like nothing could go wrong, but when you begin to think that, something terrible (sudden) comes to you.
It's hard (understand) why such things happen in life. But no matter how hard life gets, you have to keep going. The life around you will never stop (go) on. I'll have to say that sometimes I feel a little bit (worry). All I can think is "Will I be able to keep up? What if everything goes too fast?" But I have realized that feeling scared and living with that burden(负担) of running away from (problem) only slow me down.
Life never stops, you should not stop either. It's okay to take a break and give time to
(you) to feel good again. However, you can't give . Keep positive(积极的), show thanks to what you already have, and always be true to whom you are!
With love,
Your soul
