Every student knows it isimportant to take notes in class. But the skill of note-taking isn't only usedin school. Adults need to take 1 in meetings or training sessions for work. Sohere are some tips to help you develop this key skill.
Begin with the date and thetopic of the class. This may seem clear, but it's easy to forget. It will helpyou keep your notes 2.
Focus on the most importantpoints. Trying to write down everything the speaker says will only frustrate(使沮丧) you. 3, listen for the key ideasthe person wants to communicate.
If the speaker uses aPowerPoint you may not need to copy the slides(幻灯片). Ask if the PowerPoint will be available afterward. If so, youcan pay attention to 4 the things the speaker says. Or you can take apicture with a phone. Meanwhile, the PowerPoint or a document(文件) with notes may beavailable before the class or meeting. If so, print it out so you can writenotes on it.
Think about 5 you want to take notes by hand or with acomputer. Writing notes by hand has been shown to help you remember thingsbetter. But with a 6, notes are easier toorganize. Perhaps it's best to combine the two ways. Write notes by hand first, and then type them up as part of your review. Think about different note-takingways. If you're a new learner, 7 drawing a chart or picture. Another way is towrite an outline 8 facts described as examples.
9 your notes again after taking them. This willgive you the chance to add any information that you didn't write down. It'sbest to do this as soon as possible so that you don't forget anything. Thisextra review will also increase your chances of 10 what you wrote.
Note-taking is a practicalskill, so it's important to practice doing it well.

My older sister is arunner. She has always loved to run. She runs the 10-kilometre race. She's agreat runner. She used to be a pretty good sprinter (短跑选手), but one day all of thatchanged because of a little mistake she made.
She went to practice earlyin the morning. She was about to take off her running shoes when she found shehad forgotten her sprinting shoes. Sprinting shoes are special because they'resmall, light and have spikes on the bottom.
When her coach found outthat she had forgotten her sprinting shoes he got mad. He ordered her to runlaps around the track. So, off she went. Soon, she was running with otherpeople who were on their long-distance practice runs.
The runners were movingfast. It surprised the coach to see that this girl could keep up. The long-distancecoach asked the sprinting coach, "Who is that?" "That's one ofmy sprinters," he said. The two coaches were shocked to see the group ofrunners coming around the final corner with my sister in the lead!
Another girl was close toher for a while, but because of her sprinting ability, my sister seemed to justpull away from her. Her first time running a long-distance race and she came infirst! The two coaches approached my sister. They were about to congratulateher when they looked down and realized she wasn't wearing any shoes!
"Well, you told me torun and I thought you meant right away, so I just got up and ran," sheexplained. "I can't believe how comfortable it is to run without my feetstuffed inside those little sprinting shoes."
From that moment on, mysister's sprinting days were over. She was a natural long distance runner. Sheworks hard and hopes to go to the Olympics one day. Who knows what mighthappen?
Who would have guessed thata little mistake would take my sister from being a good sprinter to being agreat long- distance runner?
How do you treat yourbooks? Do you use a bookmark to avoid folding(折叠)a page and keep your books tidily on a shelf? Or perhaps you payless attention to their condition — you're happy to take notes down the margins(页边空白) of a page. What's youridea — do you think they shouldalways be kept in good condition?
Yes. Books deserve our respect. It is important to care for your books. This is especially true if the book costs a lot of money or is given to you as a present. It also won't last long if they are damaged(破坏). If a book is full of ripped(撕破的) pages, it is less possible that a friend will want to pick it up and read. If you donate it to a charity shop, it is less possible that someone will buy it. Over time, treating books badly could become a bad habit. |
NO. It doesn't matter if you just read. One of the great things about an actual book is that readers can make it their own with notes. If it's a gift, you can write a nice message. It can make a book feel personal and special to you. It doesn't matter if this means that a book isn't in perfect condition — you can always buy a new copy if the old one gets too damaged. In the end, writers just want people to read their stories: they don't mind how or where people do it. |
After a long week, Sunday is the perfect day to sit down withfamilies, relax and enjoy a special dinner — Sunday roast (周日大餐). British people have eaten Sunday roastsfor centuries. In the past, people went to church on Sundays. After that, people would be hungry. What is this tasty dish? Every Sunday dinner has roast meat, usually chicken or beef, roast potatoes, vegetables, and Yorkshire pudding.
What if you don't have time to make the traditional dinner?Don't worry. In Britain, there are special restaurants, called carveries. The name carvery comes from the act of cutting the meat intoslices before putting them on a plate. Parents and children will sit down andtell each other about their week at work or school. With many traditions fading(逐渐消失),traditional Sunday dinners are as strong as ever. And I have a feeling thatthis traditional dinner will be on British tables.
A. Besides the tasty food, this meal is also a great time forfamilies.
B. This is a tradition for many British people on Sundays.
C. It is becoming popular in other countries now.
D. This is a pudding made with eggs, milk and flour.
E. British people are very busy.
F. There you can eat a Sunday roast.
G. So families would get together to eat a big meal.
—Yes, I'm afraid we have to. That is the rule.
