Today was a really big day for me. The last time I spoke in class was three years ago and it was terrible. I tried to say the letter "W" and made that strange sound. Everyone laughed and I haven't spoken in class since.
But it's been going really well lately. I've got a great doctor and I'm allowed to use my computer in class all the time. And guess what? This is really big news! When I listen to music on my headphones I can speak without stuttering (结巴)! That's why I agreed to talk at the science fair today.
So I arrived at school early this morning to practise with my group. Our project is about using bacteria (细菌) to eat plastic. Unfortunately, when it was my turn to speak, I was so nervous that I chose the wrong music on my MP3 player. So instead of Mozart I was listening to my dance collection. The problem is that when I have dance music on the headphones I can't stop myself talking in the same rhythm (节奏) as the music. So it just sounds like I'm rapping (说唱)!
Most people in school had never heard me speak before. They were really surprised when I started doing a rap about bacteria that eat plastic. I could see they were laughing at me. But when I finished they all stood up and cheered.
After we finished, everyone wanted to know me. They didn't know about my secret use of the music on my headphones, so they just thought I was a great rapper! I checked my phone at lunchtime and I've got 187 new friend requests!
Acting is all about charm, respect, honor, and all that fame stuff, right? Wrong. Maybe when you're a big star you'll get all of that, but it's a different story for the rest of us. As a normal and unknown actor, here's a typical day on a film set.
Yesterday my alarm clock went off at 5:20 AM. I had a call time of 7:00 AM and the filming place was far. I gave myself time for a shower and an hour's drive to the set, plus an extra 10 minutes for safety. The morning traffic was slow as usual but I managed to get there on time.
The director and crew (工作人员) were already there, setting up the scene. Then I talked with the director and found out that he'd changed the lines that I had stayed up until 1:00 AM memorizing the night before. We rehearsed (排练) the scene several times, and then they excused me from it while the crew continued setting up the lights. Normally I'd stay and hang out, but I needed to memorize the new lines so I went to my truck. About twenty minutes later a production assistant knocked on my door.
We got to act and I stepped up to my position. "Roll Cameral" … "Action!" I started to say my lines… "Cut!" After a few more takes, it was time to move on.
Was there applause (掌声)? Congratulations? Of course not. This is a film, not theater.
You might get a "nice job" out of the director, but that's it. If there's one thing you should know about film acting, it's that there's a lot of waiting: auditions and preparation for acting. So, is it as shiny as you imagined? Probably not. I've got used to my ordinary acting day, but it's still a wonderful experience bonding with the crew.
In all walks of life, we usually only give those excellent people cheers and it's more likely that we will not pay attention to the ordinary person. However, even if they have not become a shining star, they are worthy of applause because they are towards their goal of continuous efforts, and finding the value of their own with their passions as well.
Talking to your children about the misinformation they may find online is a great idea. Children don't always have the judgment or critical thinking skills to test what they read or watch, but they'll develop these abilities quickly if you help them figure out how to separate fact from fiction. We're here to help you do just that!
Don't wait for your kids to approach you with questions——instead, take a few minutes to sit down with them. Let them know that there's a lot of content out there on the Internet, and not all o£ it is true. With everything going on in the world, remind your kids that they might be seeing a lot of confusing, false information going around on social media and other parts of the web.
It's a good idea to turn news reports and TV shows into teachable moments. Look for small opportunities to start helpful conversations about misinformation with your kids. Take a TV show or newspaper article and transform it into a helpful, easy way to understand what misinformation is9 and how to avoid it.
Misinformation can be really upsetting and stressful for your kids to think about. Let them know that you're always available to listen and answer their questions if they're feeling confused. Reassure your kids that there are no stupid questions, and that you're always willing to explain something for them.
Teach your kids a few tricks to fact-check misinformation online. Remind your kids to be on the lookout for strange-looking website like those ending with co. Tell them to read through the headline. If it has a lot of mistakes, or if it's written in all capital letters, there's a good chance that it might be misinformation. Additionally, introduce your kids to official websites, which are quick and easy ways to fact-check information.

Some years ago, I was invited to give a keynote speech at a high-level meeting. It was a great chance for me. I was1 when I heard the news. 2 , since I gave a keynote speech for the first time, I3 I wouldn't perform well as expected.
When I sat in the back waiting for my4 , I felt nervous about how people would see me. I fixed my mind totally on "me". I felt very uncomfortable. While looking through websites online, I read an interview with a famous psychologist5 . He spoke about the pleasure of wishing others well and a wave of6 swept over me. I recognized that the kindest thing I could do for myself was to7 concentrating totally on "me" and instead try to be8 to others. So I stayed focused on what could be useful to other people rather than how I was 9 . Surprisingly, my speech received great10 . I understand that to get admiration, stop 11 it, to take care of yourself, you need to take care of others first. This12 works for many people. It's also13 that you need to be kind to yourself because if your sense of being happy 14 , you're more likely to be patient, supportive, forgiving, and loving.
Nowadays, it seems as if people are15 in a vast web since each person doesn't live alone. No matter how good or bad it is, what you do to others certainly comes back to yourself.

The new term has begun. The bad news is that we have cancelled all the (exam) before school starts. I am a hardworking student. My dream job
Rescue me
My high school was in a border town, meaning we got new students who came over with their families from another country. Sometimes they'd speak English, and sometimes they didn't. Due to differences in various aspects, we just sort of stuck with our own group.
Lisa was a new one in our class, who sat beside me. She always wore a shining smile on her face, making her a bit different from others. However, we seldom talk to each other. The first time she was called on in my favorite U. S. History, she knew the answer (which I didn't), and she spoke in perfect English, which completely shocked me. Later, I secretly found she was also a U. S. history addict.
One day, I was sitting in U. S. History, totally stressing about a midterm we were having the next day. I didn't even notice the headteacher come in. When he called my name, I didn't hear him. Then Lisa clapped me on my shoulder. When looking up, I found a strange expression on his face. Something was wrong. I figured I was in trouble, but I couldn't imagine for what.
I followed the headteacher into his office. After being silent for a minute, the headteacher began to speak, "Your father has had a car accident. The doctors did everything they could to save him, but I'm afraid he didn't make it. . . ". The news came as a big blow. I stood silently, tears rolling down my face.
The next few weeks were a blur as we had the funeral (葬礼) and began adjusting to life without my dad. I went back to school after I ran out of things to do at home. Everything felt a little different. I couldn't exactly explain how, but it just did. I felt like I couldn't talk to my friends about the same old things and couldn't deal with listening to the same stupid jokes. I started eating lunch on the bench (长凳) alone. Sometimes, I was just sitting there, eating nothing.
Paragraph 1:
One day, at lunch time, I sat on the bench as usual, staring off into space.
Paragraph 2:
Lisa and I started having lunch on that bench everyday.
